  1. For summer, I'd stick w/ the stock pilots, if it starts kinda hard w/ the cold weather, then put some 27.5's in there...raise your needle, that'll help w/ the low end bog. Try the 4th clip and the 5th clip from the blunt end. Some like the 4th and others like the 5th better dependind on what type of reeds you have...you might want to try the air screw at .5 turn out w/ the stock pilots, see if you throttle is crispier...also you might want to think about upping the mains to 310's for the winter, I'd also modify your air box lid. It'll help your response and give you another 4hp....your holding it back w/ the lid, cut the last 1.5" off the end of the lid right behind the clips so you still have all 4...I just take a skillsaw and do it, takes 2 seconds..
  2. I've never had a spring stretch out on me, so either the springs your getting are junk or your rear silencers aren't bolted down very tight. Your header shouldn't be able to move very much at all to stretch the springs out..
  3. I've always found the fmf pipes to like the stock pilots better for throttle response, the 27.5 pilots will make your shee start up w/ one kick, but seems a slighty less throttle response...I perfer response over starting in 3 kicks cold...it'll still start in one kick warm...try both and you can decide...
  4. 5 degrees C or F????The jetting I suggested is for 50-70 degrees F....If your at 5 degrees F, then you'll need some 340's...and a 27.5 pilot.
  5. Your jetting will vary one size for every 15-20 degrees...so if your jetting is for 70 degrees out, then you'll need to go 4-5 sizes larger...I'd try raising the needles to the 4th or 5th clip from the blunt end. Try both and see which one pulls harder...as for more high rev or top end pipe, ya you'll see some gains at the high peaks, but you'll lose that bottom end that most people try to get....some pipes are interchangeable w/ different silencers...as for gearing, try a 15 tooth front, 41 rear, w/ 20" tires, 16 tooth for 18" tires...
  6. Your jetting will be very close to what you have now, there isn't much difference..
  7. Why would you want to run a single carb w/ such a larger setup that requires a lot of air flow??
  8. And the point of that reply was..........what? Anyways, wallrat, were you able to post that dyno up?
  9. At sea level, he should run 300 mains, needle in the 5th clip, stock pilots...this is w/ a single K&N w/ the modified air box lid...stock carbs are 26's..any larger and he'll be losing hp..
  10. If your shee isn't ported, then the larger carbs will lose hp....also don't dump the clutch on pavement from a dead stop, but you can speed shift after, if it starts to come up into a wheelie, then just grab another gear...
  11. 290 mains, needle 4th clip from the blunt end, stock pilots (25), air screw should be best at .5 turn out, but I'd adjust that to best throttle response.
  12. Get the whole kit, the stock flange is junk and will let sand get by...some say sand gets by the K&N, but I never seen any sand in my intake and I ride everything from muddy trails to Glamis sand dunes.
  13. I'll be bringing a cordless drill, 24"pipe wrenches, air tank, zip ties, duct tape, flywheel puller, tools......etc.
  14. Like everyone else has mentioned...the 2 into 1 is great for tight corners, woods riding...if your looking for better low end and better top end, then I'd go for the Pt mids if you can afford them,,,if not, then the fmf gnarlies are pretty good for all around and decent price. It really depends on YOUR type of riding though.
  15. For 50 degree temps, I'd start off w/ a 290 main w/ no air box lid or modify it..w/ the stock lid then you'll be around a 260 main..
  16. I've found that most shees w/ pipes will like the 4th clip the best w/ aftermarket reeds, and sometimes the 5th clip..It really depends on which pipe your running..fmf pipes really respond to the 4th and 5th clip really well. It also depends on what size pilot your running. A richer pilot will make the needle circuit rich as well....
  17. For more power, the noss head w/155psi will make a huge noticeable difference. Definately get the +4 timing key or adjustable plate, that'll give you another 2hp across the whole curve...as for the shifting, you can get the shift star, cost $35, it'll help the gears mesh a little better..the 450's are quick on take off, but your shee w/ the right jetting should stay on the take off and pull away after 4th gear..
  18. You can use the same plugs, you do have to shut it down immediately after a wot run though...just cruising back to the vehicle will alter the plugs...once you let off, the exhaust pipes cool down as well as cylinder temps, then the plugs will darken up since your plugs act as temp guages...the hotter they get the lighter they will get..
  19. Nice pics, you need to do a wot run, but the one thing that I'd like to show you is how to examine the pic...once your plugs get some more color and you do a wot run, your whole circle will become black and the ground strap (finger) will become a chocalate brown...but where the important part is where the finger meets the circle.....On your second picture, you'll notice that the bottom of the finger is black and as it gets to the bend it lightens up..this is very good and what you want...the tip should be chocalate brown and the bend should be turning to black as it reaches the bottom....Understand?....although this pic wasn't from a wot run right? if not, then this plug can look drastically different from normal riding to wot runs...
  20. The pic hasn't come up, but if you just put it back together, then just riding around isn't good enough..You'll have to wait for break in and run it wide open throttle in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down, coast to a stop and pull the plugs..Otherwise, you'll have a false reading..
  21. I'm on my 5th shee in 15 years. Once you have a problem w/ your shee and it takes hours and days to figure it out, you remember it!!! I didn't have the HQ to help me then, so I learned everything w/ hands on..blew up a few motors, but thats the cost of learning....I also like to get every ounce of power out of my motors, so I do a lot of jetting, dynoing, field testing, etc...There isn't too many symptons that I don't know, most problem w/ helping on this site is the way people explain the problems....but I don't mind. I like to help others. That is why most of my post are in the jetting and repairs forums....I don't care about the talk, just the motor. In return, I have learned other things on this site as well that I never had to deal w/...good thing..lol
  22. 03LB pretty much hit it on the nose. Pilot sounds pretty good, plug check and try raising the needles on clip to see how it feels, but do one thing at a time....adjust the air screws to throttle response and highest idle...I usually do this at an idle in neutral....(throttle response)
  23. I'd try a 250 main, needle in the middle clip and go from there. I don't have a lot of experience w/ jetting that pipe. ( I knew someone who had one), but it'll be a ballpark range for you to start...
  24. That shouldn't even be a personal preference. Chevy's are way better...
  25. It also depends on what type of porting your looking for. Some guys want a low end port and others want dune ports, then you have the all out drag port...W/ all my research, of my own bike, others I've tried, and people that I've talked to. I haven't found a builder that is GREAT at all 3 ports...Porting is an art, there is soooooo many combinations w/ porting and every combination is completely different. I haven't rode (2) 4 mil strokers that run the same yet. But all of us have mx porting and all of us have different builders...so w/ that in mind, I'd do alot of research on what you want and what a builder calls a x-country, mx, dune, or drag port...as some builders think a dune port w/ a wide powerband at 10,000rpms is a low end port because it has a wide powerband......as for great porting for instant low end, unbelievable throttle response w/ great midrange and top end..hands down Dan @Patriot....as for dune port...I'm pretty impressed w/ Fixitrods shee that was done by Grand River....neither one of these were done for me, but done for others on here that have let me try their shee out. So I'm not biased to anyone..Given I've never tried out a Passion motor or Fast motor, which I'd hope to meet someone who has one to try...as I am too looking for more. After you ride someone else w/ a lot more potential on the side of the curve that you want, then the quest goes on....it just sucks spending money on something that you don't want...this is why we are all here!!!!!when and where is this oklahoma trip?? I'm going to Glamis w/ 45 other quads from the East coast in Feb....it would be nice to have some of you others to hook up w/ us.
