  1. You should be able to run whatever you want for premix, the pipes shouldn't have any blowby. This will cause an inconsistent powerband or curve and can throw your jetting all over the place. Make sure your using high temp o-rings. I've never had a pipe leak, if it did, the new o-rings always fixed the problem. ARe you using factory o-rings?
  2. When I first put the stroker together I was running 320 mains in my stock carbs on a dyno, before I reached 6th gear, my pipes started smoking (due to the powdercoat melting off), take into consideration I ran these pipes for 3 years w/ this powercoating. We shut her down before I melted a piston. Threw some 380's in there and ran her. No more smoking, got a good run and tried other sizes seeing gains and loses w/ different sizes from 350-400. So, to answer your question, yes a stock carb will move that much fuel by the stock needle.
  3. True that, stock porting = stock carbs, anymore will yield less hp...
  4. Wait a few more weeks, JKJK and I are experimenting w/ different pipes w/ the 4mil strokers. I'm ordering shearers from Jim, so I'll know shortly.
  5. It just makes you sound like you don't know what your talking about. The needle will not restrict a 380 main at all.
  6. Agree, I've dyno tested a lot on this. I've seen ported stock carbs lose hp from bottom to top on a non ported shee. I also tested a set of 34mm carbs on a stock port and lost 8hp from bottom to top. W/ all the testing I've done, I've never seen a gain on one end and lose on the other. My stroker actually gained more on the bottom than on top going from stock to 35's.....go figure.
  7. Doesn't hurt to try a 300 and go from there. My shee didn't like a 290 when I tried Pc pipes. Those pipes like a leaner main compared to other pipes. I ended up w/ a 270 main, go up 1 or 2 sizes on the pilot as well. It'll start a lot better and get better throttle response. Throw in some larger mains, run it in 6th gear wide open for 5-10 seconds, pull the clutch in, shut it down, coast to a stop, pull the plugs. Thats how you read the plugs. The strap should have a nice chocolate brown color on the tip turning to a black color at the bend. Let us know how you make out.
  8. Don't waste your money on carbs unless you have no other mods left to do. Carbs give minimal gains per dollar. W/o porting, you will lose hp w/ larger carbs.
  9. My jetting w/ my 4 mil, stock carbs, mx port, 165psi, w/ Pt mids was 380 mains, needle 5th clip, and stock pilots. I had a pretty good gain, more on the bottom than the top w/ larger carbs. The larger the carb, the better the gains. The 35's yeilded 5 more hp on the bottom and 2hp on top...I'd have to say your jetting should be getting close. Post a pic of your plug after a wot run in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds.
  10. Everyone ready to ride??? I've been there the last few weeks. I've been trail riding in the morning and then riding at Dayton in the afternoon. Jon, I called you a couple of weeks back, but no answer, I'll shoot you a call Saturday night. Get some peeps together. Dayton needs some riders back. I haven't been kicked out yet this year. Like everyone else sais, I've only seen 6-10 people there at a time. Sucks, I miss the video cameras..... Parking will vary, I go to a friends house and park and ride from there. Riding in from the trails is the best way. Parking is prohibited on RT.35 still.
  11. Got your pics thanks. I have a friend that might be interested.
  12. Either way, why would I want to try your shock??? Yours is setup for racing.....which is what kind of racing??? Drag, mx, hill shooting, so your valving won't be correct....If yours is setup up for a +4 swingarm for whoops and duning, then send it, so the comparison will be correct. I want to compare apples to apples so there is no misunderstandings.
  13. When is the season over? I'll be in Glamis in Feb., there will also be over 45 other members there from the east coast, I'll be there for 8 days. That would be perfect for trying out suspension where we could test over miles of whoops and jumps.
  14. To answer your question is that I tried and they said they could not make a stock shock as good as their own....thats why everyone keeps mentioning works and elkas. Only certain companies will build a stock shock and say its just as good as the real thing. If someone thinks they can build a stock shock to be just as good as my ohlins or other peoples axis, then send me a set and I'll give my full report on them. I'll be going to Glamis this Feb and will test a set out. I'm not brand specific, but I do give my opinions good and bad about any product I've ever tested either in the field or on the dyno. Everything I learned is from my own experience, not from what others say....Everyone that has met me knows that I'll dial them in before testing so it will be accurate. I've done a lot of questioning, testing and research on this subject and would love to find a stock shock w/ superior valving for other hq'ers..as well as myself.
  15. Everyone is talking about putting the same internals in the stock body, but you CAN'T put all the internals of a great shock in the stock body of a banshee shock. Maybe Elka and works can, but axis and ohlins can't. I've asked that question for years, rode a lot of other shees w/ different setups and once you ride a shee w/ the whole package then there is no use trying. Just spend the money. Its like buying a stock shee and then putting pipes on. YOUR ADDICTED NOW. You'll want more. The year before I had works front w/ a rebuilt stock rear. Went to the dunes hitting the whoops at the top of 4th gear. Fixitrod would go by me like I was tied off w/ his Axis setup (front and rear). Following year I went back to the dunes w/ ohlins all around. We led the pack at the top of 6th gear the whole way across 3' whoops for miles. Its took me 3 days to get the nerves to do it. I'd be at the top of 4th not believing my eyes, so then I'd hit 5th, then 6th. Whoops were coming at me so fast I couldn't believe how well the shocks were sucking them up......by the end of the week I was sold. Going back to anything else would be like someone asking you to put stock pipes back on.....
  16. Oh Ya, thats right, I'm going, I'm going, Oh Ya, ......
  17. I have a 4mm stroker and my builder told me that I'd lose peak rpm..Well, he was wrong. I pull the same rpms as before. I actually expected more out of my stroker when I had it done, but oh well, time to get more!!! I know Paul (99nhbanshee) has a 420 big bore in his shee. He would launch it from a dead start in 3rd gear and grab 4th going up a hill no more than 70'. I was very impressed w/ his big bore setup...Before I did my motor, I was eyeing the stroker for some time. Duncan actually suggested for me NOT to build one for my type of riding and suggested the stroker for high speed riding only. He claimed he could get more performance out of a stock stroke for coming out of the corners, mx, on/off throttle applications. He claimed the stroker only had the advantage for like Pikes Peak, oval racing, drag, etc... I've seen ported stock stroke banshees go very well and impressive.
  18. I take it your riding in sand w/ paddles?
  19. Well I don't have a clue where to start, but if I was you, I'd see what stock is and go up 8 sizes, run it and do a plug test and go from there...
  20. Pull the air filter off and look inside the intake w/ a flashlight. Bottom out the slides and raise them back up 1 full turn and go from there. your idle should be very close. If you have to raise or lower the idle, do both sides evenly.
  21. The tors system will affect your spark. I've seen it do multiple different scenerios..Most common is that it will act like a rev limiter only w/ the clutch lever out...so as long as the lever is in you can rev it cleanly, but once your rolling, it won't kick in like the mains are way too large...I've also seen the tors cut the spark off 100%, making you think the stator is gone..so as you can see, you can spend a lot of time problem solving because of the tors, which only takes a few seconds to disconnect. I've owned 5 different banshees at different years w/ my current '00 being the newest. Not one of them lasted more than 1-2years before malfunctioning and caused some kind of problem leading to hours of mind boggling wasted time. Once you encounter one of these episodes, you too will be getting rid of the tors..Don't get confused between the carb tops and the actual TORS. (throttle over ride system) the banshee actually has a mini computer.
  22. lol...We'll be back at Glamis in Feb. again this year. I'll let you try my Ohlins through the whoops. Make sure you make it this year!!
  23. Plugs will vary in color from different riding. Do a true plug test, run it wide open in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down, coast to a stop, pull the plugs. Guanteed you'll see a different color. Thats how your supposed to check the plugs. Also colder air requires more fuel.
