Banshee CARBON FIBER Hi-Flow Air Filter System
csrmel replied to Infamous039's topic in Product Reviews
they work decent. i think the surface area of the filter is more than that of a typical pod. another neat benefit is the carbon fibre resonance chamber. i made a copy of that inlet system with the exception of the carbon fibre. in its place i used aluminum intercooler tubing. (alot less $$$) you can make that entire system for about $45 in parts and an hours worth of labour if you dont mind aluminum instead of carbon fibre. -
i dont think stock pipes have any packing., atleast my brand new banshee didnt when i bought it 6 months ago.

all youy e2s users should check out macdizzy.com

are you revving it up enough between shifts? with any 2 stroke, it needs to be in the power range before it pulls hard. if youre shifting too early you wont be running in the range that the exhaust pipe works in. if i take my banshee and shift too low, say 4000 rpm's, my dads raptor 350 will beat it.

when i got my new banshee from the yamaha dealer i start it up and idle it to warm it up (as i awalys do). then i did a few warm up runs around the yard (to warm me up not the engine) and then i go at it full throttle. i dont believe in a "break in" anymore. cylinders and pistons/rings of today are so finely machined that by the time you start the motor and allow it to warm up, its already broke in. its not like the bad old days when there was huge clearences and large tolerances.

those are good suggestions. other ideas to consider are not so much upgrades but maintence that helps out alot. lube up all the cables, linkages, grease the suspension. you would be supprised at how often a cable needs to be oiled. when my banshee was 3 months old i lubed the clutch cable and what a difference. now i do it every 3 months.

if all you want is numbers put some slicks on the back and those numbers will go way up. substancially less rolling resistance.
-
they need vastly different gear ratio for 1/4 mile running. give an f1 car the option to change gears, remove wings, and run drag slicks and it would do pretty good. i think the suspension is WRONG for 1/4 though. how they going to launch when they have springs stiffer than a mack truck!

ive never been asked if i can backflip hah. however the little white trash hoodrats around here that have nothing better to do awalys come over when i am outside. if they hear the banshee start up its like they swarm over. i cought one little prick poking my air filter with a stick. i was like get the fuck off my banshee! these little rats will sit there and just WATCH me work on my shit, like how entertaining can it be to watch me jet my carbs? i guess theres nothing for kids and teenagers to do in this town so you gotta get youre kicks wherever you can. and i awalys get pestered to borrow it out. as if im going to borrow out my 6 month old banshee to some hoodrat thats going to steal it or kill himself on it. i dont even let them sit on my banshee.

use the lid and snorkel. just have to lower youre main jets to compensate. as you already found out, the snorkel makes it run rich as hell on the top end unbless you rejet.

yeah, i use the limiter whenever someone else rides my banshee too. it helps alot with things like going out of control. and no one even notices!

eagle, thanks for the reply but i have a few more questions if you wouldnt mind. the brake lights on a banshee are operated by a contact switch right by the kickstart. it doesnt clog with sand or when going through water fo that matter. why would a switch mounted by the shift lever get clogged if you used a couple contact switches like the brakelights do? i can see what you are saying about the speed, theoretically their setup would be twice as fast as a backyard setup like i had thought about. however i wonder if a contact switch wouldnt provide most of the benefits (clutchless shifting) at 5% of the cost. what im thinking is that even with a contact switch its still gotta be alot quicker than using the clutch?

REMEMBER - HOLD THE RIGHT OF THE TRAIL
csrmel replied to fastcar01's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
yeah trail riders can be road hogs somtimes. where i ride theres alot of 4x4 quads and it seems like they dont go that fast and they tend to hog the entire trail making it very hard to pass. now theres some really neat 4x4 guys out there and alot of them hear me comming up and pull to the right so i can pass them. thats cool and i waive and pass making sure NOT to kick up excessive dirt. some of them are actually pretty fast and we all ride together in packs. some on the other hand, are not so friendly. i end up zinging the throttle to get their attention. if they still wont yeild then i usually tag along close behind and pass when theres an opening. at that point i give em the bird. on rare occasion when someone deliberately tries to keep me from passing ill eventually get in front and roost them as if i am trying to bury them alive. thats one thing i like about banshee. you cant follow it if you dont have full body protection. the roost can almost kill. -
post some pics

why cant one just add a contact switch to the shift lever so when you push down or pull up on the shiter it engages the switch which would be connected to the killswitch part of the wiring harness.

i guess this is a parody of some rap. sence i dont listen to rap i dont know the original song.

i wouldnt mind winning a set. please enter me in. thanks.

i suppose any crafty thief would have pictures of the lo jack system on his computer and study them before going out to yank some motorcycles.
-
im not enbtirely sure how the lojack works but on something as simple as a motorcycle, why cant one break off a few fenders/panels and rip off the wires to the transponder? its not as if the transponder is going to be very difficult to find on a motorcycle or quad.

i want to see pics.

im looking hard at an rz350 conversion right now. if i go that route ill need a set of rocket pipes. i dont think there are any other pipes out there to fit an rz banshee? thats what you should do yamashee1, complement the rocket pipes by selling rz350 conversion parts. hell you could even sell a bolt on conversion kit to make a regular banshee powervalved. as far as i know no one had this king of kit.

ive seen people do that kind of stuff on car engines and it worked out ok, but car engines are not as wild as a banshee. the thing i would be concerned about is any chunks of melted piston down in the case. i would hate to see you put new parts in this thing, fire it up and spin a bearing because a molten glob of aluminum had squeezed into a bearing where you couldnt see it.

i think they are both great. its just that slow speed technical dirt riding is not what the banshee was designed for, so if one is going dirt riding, stick to the high speed trails. theres some dirt trails around my area that are rediculously technical. im talking 150 degree hairpin turns that you have to lock the rear end up and slide out sideways just to make the turn. jmo, this is not where a banshee shines. this trail is more suited to a frame with better geometry, and a 4 stroke engine too. dont get me wrong i can run with the 4 strokes, but i miss turns, make mistakes, somtimes have to get off and push the banshee backwards onto the trail because i went into the sticks. it seem like they dont ever get off, maybe because they have reverse! theres other dirt trails, that are high speed with banked corners and relatively flat straights, man i be passing those exact same quads that gave me trouble on the technical stuff. i pass them on the inside of corners, the outside of corners, it just doesnt matter. this is where the banshee shines. the high speed smooth stuff i can just dominate. that raw banshee power makes up for its woods diffencies when you are on flat ground.

i dont know how they are doing it. i flat out CHEATED and i still couldnt beat them.
