  1. i have a diesel parts washer which features a cirulation pump. basically its a grate over a tub of diesel fuel and you clean the dirty parts with a nylon bristle brush while running diesel over them. i am wondering if diesel fuel would have a negative effect on the oring in an oring chain. in the yamaha manual it says you can use kerosene to clean the chain. sence kerosene is similar to diesel, i was wondering if this would work without messing up the rubber orings in the chain? thanks.
  2. does a stock banshee have a tempature controlled automotive stile thermostat in the water passage somewhere, and if so, why not? seems like it would be a good idea to promote quick warm up and help to regulate the tempature. keeping it from getting too low when cruising at high speed, low throttle.
  3. there is alotmore in antifreeze than just lowering the tempature at which it freezes. modern antifreeze contains corrosion inhibitors which protect the steel, aluminum and brass parts in the cooling system from corroding or rusting. modern antifreeze also raises the boiling point to that which is beyond the cope of running only pure water. now you may think that sence water boils off at 100C than there is no need to run a coolant which boils at 130C or above, but this is not true. this is important because banshees, as well as ANY other liquid cooled engine have hot spots in the coolant passages in the engine which have a significantly higher tempature than the cooler parts and create localised boiling points. youre coolant passages in the cylinders may very well run at 90C, but the cylinder head could be at 110C and small hot spots on the head could be as high as 120-130C. even with a pressurized cooling system, running antifreeze to eliminate these localized hot spots is very well worth it. no matter what you do, you should not run pure water with nothing else in it. you need the corrosion protection if nothing else. conventional "green" ethelene glycol is a silicate based coolant. this doesnt mean there are bits of sand in the coolant. it means there is a silicate based corrosion inhibitor that is emulsified into the coolant and yes, after years of use it can drop out of suspension and form deposits. 5thats why yamaha recomends changing the coolant every 2 years or so. personally, i like the engine ice, or evans coolant. they are the exact same product. what they offer over conventional coolant is an extremly high boiling point, so those localised hot spots in the head wont create small boiling points. they also dont need any cooling system pressure, you can drill a hole in the radiator cap so that the system becomes non pressurized. this greatly prolongs waterpump life as well as radiator hose life. the stuffs expensive, but you get what you pay for. our banshees also do not have radiator fans. they are at the mercy of the wind speed. running a coolant with a high boiling point is a huge advantage in a banshee. it has a lesser advantage in engines with radiators eqipped with fans.
  4. im not trying to stick up for anyone here or bash anyone for that matter but i would like to see this thread locked. imo, it takes away from the quality of the website. its flaming threads like this that make me decide to not become a donating member. why should i, as a new member, put up my money on banshee hq when i see threads like this. and this isnt the only one. im not blaming enforcer or anyone here, there is ALOt of bashing going around in other threads, people swearing and getting into "internet fights" and such. i realise i am just one member, and weither or not i chose to donate my money to the site means basically nothing, but i have a feeling that alot of people generally feel the same way i do. the whole point of banshee hq should be the advancement and development of the banshee and items relating to it. . not flaiming about who knows what and what age or income people may have or lawsuits and such.
  5. for some really strange reason thought of this thread today when i was in a meeting with my lawyer. i showed him this thread and gave him a quick run down on the facts. he said that while slander is not his specality, he is pretty sure the loco moderator is free and clear. deleting someones text isnt really slander anyways. enforcer might just MIGHT of had a case (but probably not) but he chose to be ignorant and come back to join in on the name calling and general negative banter of this thread. this shows his hostile intentions and the fact that he does not have a lawyer of his own to represent him and guide him through any legal process. had enforcer actually went to a lawyer, the lawyer would have told him to keep his mouth shut and let everyone here go uncontested with their bashing of him. enforcer basically fucked himself. not that he had much of a case to begin with. law suits and such that happen because of heated internet discussions almost awalys get thrown out so he most likely would not have won anyways. my lawyer also said that user agreements which you have to accept before joining a discussion forum are worthless. they are not legal documents. they do not hold up in court. all they do really is trick the user into thinking there is some sort of website laws he must obey. you cannot for example, click away youre rights as a free person by joining a forum.
  6. man i really feel for you. many years ago i had a totally tricked out banshee stolen. i had way to many hop up parts on that bike to list. it just about killed me. i swore off quard for many years after that because of the bitterness i had thinking about somne JERK out there riding MY banshee. man that still pisses me off. it took me years to get over it but i finally did and i as a final coffin in the casket i went out and bought a brand new blue banshee a few weeks ago. now just last weekend some jerks broke in and tried to steal my new banshee.!. im all paranoid now. i can understand how you are feeling because i went through the same situation as you. just dont be like me and swear off quads for years. that was a mistake i now regret.. wait a month or 2 to see if the police recover it. if they dont, go out and get another one. its the best therapy for a loss like this. once again, sorry for youre loss. hope everything goes well for you.
  7. nothing really happend so far. i called the police but theres not much they can do besides making a report. i lost my $350 grille. i plan on going to the local pawn shops once a week and asking if anyones came in to pawn a new bbq grille. im freaking out at this point. i found some cargo containers in a bargain trader for $500 used. i think one of these would be a very good way to protect my things. they look like this. 1 of those would be pretty thief proof, coupled with 4 of the baddest locks i can find. nothing short of a cutting torch should be able to get through that, i hope.
  8. somone broke into my place this weekend and tried to steal my banshee and my dads raptor. they couldnt break the locks but they did manage to steal my bbq grille. man im paranoid now. i need an alarm system with lazer guns and smoke grenades or something.
  9. all that need to be done with the rear end for ease of turning is dont run any wide grippy tyres. instead try some mini cooper size tyres. then you wouldnt have a problem turning.
  10. i didnt mean to come off sounding like a snob. im not rich at all. im sorry about that.
  11. im pretty much satisfied with my banshees performance, so i was thinking about doing some mods to the bike to increase its reliability and lenghten the time between rebuilds. most of my riding is mild. some hill climbing, grassy pastures, techical woods trails, dust bowls, etc. nothing really crazy, and i dont beat on the machine. no prolonged full throttle periods or anything like that. however, at certain times i notice the motor gets a little hot, getting close to overheating. one time i shut it down and about 10 seconds later i heard very mild bubbling from the cooling system. thats not good at all. tells me its running too hot. so i was thinking of some ideas to help extend the motor life, such as adding a few 4 inch 10 watt computer fans behind the radiator. i was thinking of wiring them up to my heatlight low beam switch, and just eliminating my low beams all together. that way i would only have high beams. that should help out a bunch when im going through the slower technical trails and hill climbing yes? also thinking of buying a used cylinder head off ebay for cheap and drilling/tapping the waterjacket to add a coolant tempature gauge which i would install on the handlebars. another thing i was thinking of is going to evans waterless coolant. this stuff boils at almost 370 degrees F, so it should help to reduce hotspots in the cylinder head. the last thing i was thinking of is buying a magnetic drain plug for the transmission. you guys have any suggestiuons or additions to my ideas? would fattening the jets up a tick or 2 help anything? remember my banshee is still 100% stock. thanks.
  12. i have seen street legal quads down here in south florida. some guy made conversion kits for the most popular quads which included everything you need to make them pass inspection. he also gave you instructions for a step by step process involving the dot and an inspection, resitration, insurance, liscence plate, etc. i think he eventually went out of buisness. thats too bad, it would be a blast to have a street legal banshee.
  13. haha so basically i wont beat his bike unless i dump some serious cash into my banshee. thats ok, im pretty much satisfied with its performance as it is. it would be cool to beat his bike, but it wouldnt be worth the price. the airport is in sebring, well between sebring and lake placid. the grass runway is still used, but the tarmac is basically abandoned and over run with potholes and weeds. theres still some good sections for drag racing though. the whole area is a neat place to explore on a quad.
  14. yeah it was pretty bad, espically when i warm it up on half choke in the driveway. it looked like a smoke machine. amazingly the plugs looked fine after the first tank.
  15. my dad has ridden my banshee quite a few times, and i have ridden his bmw r1100r sport bike as well, we got to talkin about drag racing and he thought my banshee was so fast that he wasnt sure who would win. keep in mind my banshee is 100% stock down to the oem tyres. we decided to have a go at it so we went to an abandoned airport runway a few miles from home and had some drag races. i pumped my banshee tyres up to 15psi for less rolling resistance, but it was worthless. his r1100r just walked away each time we went at it. what would it take to get a banshee to go from 0-60 in under 2.5 seconds on tarmac? it would be fun to beat his r1100r. i wasnt too far behind.
  16. when i got my new banshee the other week the dealer filled it up with yamalube mixed at 15:1 for break in. after the first tank of gas he said to run it at 25:1 using lamalube or 20:1 if i decide to use another brand of 2 cycle oil. i checked in the owners manual and it says 25:1 using yamalube or castrol r30, and 20:1 for any other kind of 2cycle oil. personally im not totally sure on what ratio to run yet, so i have decided to play it safe for now and just mix at 25:1. i have heard of people running these things at up to 100:1 using some kind of amsoil but i think thats just crazy.
  17. the problem isnt wachovia or any bank. the problem is you people spending too much money and having too little reserve in youre accounts. you should awalys keep atleast 2000 in youre checking/atm account. i prefer to keep 10,000 but i would say 2000 is the minimum. the reason for this is unforseen circumstances which could eat up a large sum of money quickly, like getting stranded 500 miles from home because youre car blew its transmission out on the interstate. another example, ,a few weeks ago i got a deal on a brand new banshee i couldnt refuse. i got it for $5500 out the door. tax ,registration, dealer prep fee and title all included for $5500. i wnt down to my bank and withdrew $5500 from my checking account and went and paid the dealer and took my new banshee home.
  18. i was riding my banshee on some mondeate speed trails, nothing really challenging. it was running great. all the sudden the engine dies on me. i kick it over and it will only idle. if i give it any throttle the engine dies instantly. so i got a tow back home and looked the thing over and i could not find any problems with it. i went so far as to replace the plugs, do a compression test, etc. everything checked out OK. i even put a fuel soaked rag in the carb inlet to test if it is a fuel starvation issue. it was not. the next day i started it up and it ran great, for about 3 monutes, then the same problem happend. it will only idle and if i give it ANY throttle it just dies. 6 hours later i start it up and it runs great for 3 mnutes and the same thing happens again!. so, i have a feeling that this is something to do with the TORS. but i dont know where to begin. any ideas? the dealer is unhelpfull, to say the least.
  19. i guess you could call it a pit bike. i have an original honda 1968 honda ct70 mini trail that my 7 year old nephiew comes over to ride. i sometimes mess around on it around for 5 mins or so. it wheelies really good when i stand on the rear foot pegs. i wouldnt be cought dead actually "riding" it though.
  20. hey guys, im from central-south florda and am just getting back into the quad scene again. years ago i had a tricked out banshee with too many mods to list. the quad was stolen from me and i never got it back. i had so much time into that thing that it hurts to think about it. after it was stolen i swore off quads and most off roading in general. i threw away all my extra parts from the banshee and gave up off roading in general. just pissed me off to think about some jerk out there riding on MY quad. the quad i put all my time and money into. he is having fun somewhere on my quad. so its been quite a few years now and i finally decided to get over my loss and get back into the quad scene again. i went out and bought a new banshee, still in the crate. my dad came along and bought a new raptor 350 so i would have some riding company. we broke in our quads last weekend and had a blast tearing it up in some sebring trails. man i tell you it feels good to have a banshee to call my own again. it feels real good. but i have a problem. and that is locking up our quads. i see the dealer has some nice thick kryptonite cables for $80, but is there a better or cheaper or easier way? i know that no banshee is safe from a thief, but ill be damned if i am going to have my second one stolen as well. i plan on storing the banshee in a industrial cargo container, the kind of huge thing that new cars from from japan inside. but id also like to lock it up internally with some cables or monster chains. how do all of you secure youre banshees? thanks.
