  1. I'll keep an eye out for his melt down thread. " New K&N filters melted motor. WTF?"
  2. Packing is a must. In a pinch, fire block insulation bats are ok. Or even steel wool. But try, please try to get real packing.
  3. Some will, some won't. You should be in touch with your machine enough to know when it is only running one cylinder. Sadly a lot of people miss the ball.
  4. Take your current domes and CC them with a spark plug in the hole using water or even something like cooking oil. If you use a graduated cylinder or precision beaker you can keep track of how many CC's of fluid it takes to fill your domes. Once you know your current size, you can figure out what size you need. Rule of thumb on motors your size would be about 12-13 psi per CC increase/decrease
  5. The real trick is to keep the whole bike waxed real good so that it cuts through the air molecules. The race cut plastics really do well with a slippery wax job.
  6. Time to play with a lock up clutch.
  7. The fellas at Duncan Racing have had big success with banshees on a national level as well as international. Between TT, Moto X, Pont De Vaux, Pikes Peak, etc. they have definitely made their stamp and still have the same guys there doing the motors.
  8. Those are salvageable. Definitely. Don't worry about them going down to 350 CC. The more you feed any motor the better. I was picturing razor thin intake bridge and hogged out ports every where. Tell me.... Are there ports cut in to the liner adjacent to those boost ports? Forgot to mention. Just make sure you port match smoothly
  9. Always get an AIDS test before going faster....
  10. This should be your first step......
  11. Never owned 916's. But I did ride an all bolt on bike with them and it pulled great with some 33pwk's!
  12. If you're looking for a new frame, does that mean you are looking to part ways with the 450 chassis? If so, is it for sale?
  13. Shaking the flywheel tells you if the magnets are bunk or not.
  14. Just don't post in the jetting section asking guys how to tune it when you do get it. Unless there are a few Pikes Peak racers lurking around here.....
  15. Pretty sure he just need to know what the most timing guys are running with pump fuel. It's pretty easy to throw timing at motors on race fuel.
  16. First verify that the cylinder is for a stock stroke or stroker. Buy the appropriate crank. Then send them off to be plated(nickasil). Easiest way to go and there are quite a few max bore stock cylinders out there with plating. If it really is a drag port, the best you can do is give it compression and timing with good fuel. Remember to keep it cool. But if you are he'll bent on the other set up..... If you put stock style sleeves back in you might be paying way more to get it right then it would be to just get new stock cylinders or even a good deal on something aftermarket. The CC size of the motor won't matter much when it comes to porting since its just stock cylinders. The real issue is that there is material removed for the "drag" port work so typically when guys re sleeve they pres in the liner and open the ports up to match the existing porting. To me it sounds like you may want material tig welded in to adjust the porting to be more trailable which will cost ya.
  17. I try to tell people about tighter gaps but most of the know it alls think I'm nuts. They feel that you buy components to fire a stronger spark and gap them way out for a mega spark that is apparently supposed to leave no fuel unburned. Funny thing is I just helped a guy with a 250r from work sort his bike out and that was the problem. He chased jetting for 2/3 nights after work and it never ran right till the plug gaps were at 18 thou.
  18. I think I you are finding twisted metal inside it might be time to split the cases. Just to be sure that there is nothing else in there. Go through and replace any OEM hardware that may be junk like the eccentric screw, kicker bushing and clip. Have your stock crank trued and welded. Simple stuff like that would keep a stockish motor like yours running top notch for years. You could even source a used crank here in the states and have it drop shipped to a site sponsor to be speced. Some will ship internationally if you can't find anyone you trust over there.
  19. Yep. Try gearing it, but if you like try finding an RZ tranny in good condition and swap it. I have been messing with gearing and still I toy with the idea of swapping a cut RZ tranny in my bike to keep from having to shift as much. Similar to how 450's can run a whole race in 2 gears.
  20. Worse then the raptor plastics. This should be added to the best of Craig's list thread.
  21. Drippy pipes could be your premix being overly rich. What is your fuel blend?
