  1. might not fit with the clutch lever under the carbs....
  2. Your answering your own questions and doing a great job, jetting is trial and error. Just keep reading your plugs and you'll be fine. DON"T listen to your friend.
  3. make sure your carbs are in sync, choke tube is on between the carbs, little black box above the left exhaust is disconnected, (3-wire plug)
  4. From what I've experienced w/ my friends 400's, I'd go for the 155 main.
  5. I've jetted a few different shees w/ your setup and always end up at 290 mains, stock pilots, needle 4th clip from the blunt end. Adjust air screws to throttle response and make sure the carbs are in sync after...Do a plug test and let us know how it pulls.
  6. I've seen a rich needle do what your describing. try lowering the needle one clip towards the blunt end. Should clear up.
  7. Your not meeting us there?? Whats the matter, Rod teach you a lessen the last time?? NO denying, Rod still has the video....
  8. I'm leaving in 4 hours, then flying for 8..
  9. Usually porting will make you lean so you have to go larger on the mains, that's why I suggested to start at 320, but if Gorr said it shouldn't change much, then start w/ a 300 main...Rich is always safe, it'll only cost you the price of the jets, which you'll need later in the future anyways..so its up to you. Drop in the 300 's and do a wot test for 5-10 seconds in 6th gear, shut if down, coast to a stop and check the plugs, they will tell all....of course, wait till you have at least a tank of gas through it before you open it up for that long..
  10. If you don't do a plug test, then changing main jets is useless, your only guessing. You need to do a plug test...even if you have to drive a half an hour to do it, it only takes 5 seconds....If you find that jetting doesn't seem to change the symptons or find very little changes, then most likely you have an electrical problem...but you have to start somewhere and process of elimination.
  11. There was no smoothness in the stroker that I rode....It hit like a freight train and pullled hard after...Minkia needed 2 more teeth up front to calm it down!!
  12. Pilots sound pretty good then, try the needle first and adjust the air screws to see where they like to be, that'll kind of hint to you whether you need to up or down the pilots.....adjust them to throttle response. you can do this in neutral...
  13. I've ridden on a set of Rockets, but they were on a stroker w/ little jetting. From what I've experienced and what others have said, I'd stay away from any high rev pipe when trial riding. You'll constantly be shifting the gears and slipping the clutch constatnly to keep the revs up into the power, stay w/ a midrange pipe for trails...
  14. Pilots affect mostly idle to 1/4 throttle, but do have an affect all the way to wide open throttle. The carbs pull fuel from them at all times...Usually a needle that'll run on the 4th clip w/ a stock pilot will run on the 2nd or 3rd clip w/ a 30 pilot...Do you feel the need to open the throttle a little to start it after its warmed up??
  15. I'd suggest stock pilots, and 330 mains to start, try raising the needles one clip and go from there.
  16. If the 1st clip runs even better, than I'd check to see what size pilots you have and go from there..
  17. Are you sure they are 20 pilots? Stock carbs? Have you checked your reeds? Equalizer tube in place between the two carbs (1/4"x2"long), make sure the slides are in the right carbs, (cutaway facing the air box)
  18. Your pilots might be off, does it start hard when hot or cold? Do you need the choke to start it? How many kicks to start it? Have you tried adjusting the air screws to .5 turn out or 2.5 turns out?
  19. 3 days and counting...........
  20. At least its only a 20-30 percent chance...Look at the bright side, no dust!!!
  21. A lot of times we are the reasons why the shee won't run right. We take things apart and cause other mishaps...Usually when something goes wrong, I think of what I did to it recently and if something I did could cause the problem. 9out of 10 times it is..But this is how we all learn and find out why patience and time is very important to mechanics..
  22. We can't help you if you don't help us..I've told you numerous times to up your pilots and get a plug test at wot in 6th gear...if you don't listen then we can't help.. What sizes of jets have you tried (pilots and mains)??Have you tried 175 mains like I suggested in the beginning???
  23. Where the tube connects to the bowl, there will be a very, very tiny jet in the bottom of the bowl where the tube connects, this is the choke jet.
  24. I've always heard that, but I've never had a 2-stroke motor that'll run better by running lean...A lean motor won't pull on top..I proved that to Chase 73. I changed my carbs over and raced him. He took me by 5 bike lengths consistently when I was taking him the week before, I then did a plug test to find no color.... I went up 4 sizes, and had no other larger jets at the time. I was still slightly lean,,raced him again and took him consistenly like I normally did..ordered some more jets, now he doesn't want any...pussy...
  25. If it likes the stock pilots then stay w/ the stock pilots. I've never seen a shee run better w/ larger pilots on fmf pipes w/ no other mods..but thats around here. Others claim otherwise, but who cares what others say, listen to your shee, shee'll tell you..I've always found stock pilots and richen the needles work better on fmf's..
