  1. 280's are probably lean with the K&N and no airbox lid, assuming 32:1 premix ratio. Might want to consider starting with 320's and working your way down until it doesn't bog at WOT, that is if the compression checks out and you make sure the pilots are clean (you could probably go straight to 30 pilots). Good luck.
  2. I found it amusing. What we really need is a translator for posts like this: heEya foolz! um i juSts gjot mEe gaa bamcHe aB i wHut 2 cEe hoe faZ eeT gOez?
  3. Dianne Sawyer...greeeeeaat. Goddamn worthless ass media, I'll watch it on the off chance of seeing a Banshee on TV but I'm not listening to a word the bitch says. Was it Barbara Walters and 60 minutes that stirred shit up in the late '80s? THE SKY IS FALLING! OH f*ck, SAVE US FROM THE EVIL ATV'S! TV "NEWS" AND THE CPSC TO THE RESCUE!!!
  4. ROFL DirtGrrl! We have a Basset also, he relentlessly chewed the water hose, the good part was he chewed it off about 3" away from the faucet so I just reinstalled the hose end...didn't take long to turn a 20' hose into a 5' hose. Those pics are hilarious led! Hope you didn't have him changing the powerbands yet...
  5. Given the choice between a used stock one and a Ricky Stator, I'd go with the Ricky Stator. Stock will get you by and you'll save some bucks but they have a tendancy to fail eventually, I would think the Ricky Stator would last you alot longer. My stator went out a couple months ago and I got a new RS in the box from Sheeya for $100, he was sellin' it in the For Sale forum (new ones are what $125 plus freight?). Would be worth checking in there and posting a thread in the Wanted forum. BTW I dunno if it'll help or not but when I put on my new stator, I plugged off the hole on the stator cover (actually it's a notch in the case I think) just forward of the countershaft sprocket. Not certain that it'll make any difference but I don't see why it would be good to let sand & water get in there at all...my RZ motor has the same notch but it's used to let a wire go back to the neutral indicator, and has a rubber grommet sealing off that opening. I wouldn't go as far as saying that's why Banshee stators fail regularly, but I don't think it helps. The reason my original stator failed was one of the wires that solders to the center broke loose at the solder joint, the Ricky Stator looks a little tougher...
  6. Somebody musta snagged 'em, $395 was a pretty good deal, it was in the scratch & dent section...
  7. I love my -2" pegs too, didn't have any Blaster or Raptor pegs so we just cut new mounting plates out of 3/8" steel and welded the stock pegs on; we did have to shorten the shift and brake levers but it wasn't a big deal and I'm happy with the outcome. Raptor pegs might be an option to consider tho, I hadn't heard anything about those until Tim C mentioned it...
  8. I doubt it's the CDI, typically they are either go or no go (not always), so I would save that for last after you rule everything else out. I agree with bbluebanshee, I would check compression first, the symptoms kind of point towards low compression...did you break it in after the rebuild? If that checks out move on to jetting and carb cleaning as Boonman suggested, the pilots in particular have a very small opening and it doesn't take much to clog them. That alone would make it hard to start but may or may not affect performance as much as you indicated. But being too lean on the mains will compound the problem. Good luck.
  9. No water or porta-pottys there, just a small asphalt parking lot and 4-5 covered picnic tables. No fees or regulations tho. There is a couple large gas(?) lines close to camp, like 16" steel but they are real hard to miss and are only exposed for a couple 20' or 30' spans. Other than that there is a couple small 4" HDPE fastlines way out on the edge of the dunes but by no means hazardous. There's another thread in the "Sand" forum about Kermit with some more info, you might check that out too. Also, when are you going? I might make it down there depending on the date. If you need anything else just post it in one of the two threads...
  10. I love the CR hi bend bars, I run 909's but the bend is alot lower and flatter than stock, much better IMO for aggressive riding...
  11. Your boss set up an interview for you? That's exceedingly strange, if one of my bosses did that (I have three; they are partners/brothers...and you thought it sucked having one boss), I guarantee it would be a job shovelling cow shit and not sniffin' roses. Watch your back
  12. Damn Meat, how'd you do that?!??! Can't even tell there WAS cones in that pic! Here's another pretty good one, all these pics are like 25% but when I get all the originals I'll post 'em; I dunno if we'll be able to upload pix from Dumont or not, but if we can I'll let you know. The terrain was awesome, desert sand and dodgin' greasewoods and mesquite is my all-time favorite. It was damn scenic too, didn't have much chance to check it out during the race but stopped a few times during the pre-run and it was awesome; these pics are facing West and the mountain range in the distance is the Organ mountains. Right on the other side of those mountains is Las Cruces, my old stomping grounds. Oh yeah, the camelback wasn't bad, I forgot it was there most of the time but the two times I used it to wash the dust out of my mouth I was stuck swallowing a mouthful of mud, kinda hard to spit with a helmet on, heh. Evil; is Duece gonna make it or not? I'll have my Holeshots too so we can rip it up away from the dunes a 'lil.
  13. Shoulda got a pic...19 months and already slingin' a ratchet on the quad...
  14. Fro: best place to start looking would be AMA's webpage and search for your state and "ATV". Not all XC's are AMA sanctioned so you might also search for ATVA or ask around at the local dealers. Dlnoss, I finished my first race (the Tarantula a couple days ago) 8th out of 28. I don't know Fred but from the results page it looks like he finished 4th in the Expert class. I entered Novice and barely survived 2 loops, let alone three like they did. I will say the Experts had some SERIOUSLY badass machines...my second lap time was about the same as his third, but my thumb woulda fell off before I made it that far...
  15. Quite the contrary, personally I think there's few things in life better than a babe on a Banshee...just don't be surprised if some of the dogs (including me) around here beg for pics...
  16. http://www.rockymountainatv.com/home.asp?sid=0004047452 Not sure how good they are but the price is decent...

  18. ROFL valve stem forum!!!!!!
  19. I agree with fro, topend it if you can. I would have someone who knows what they are doing bore the jugs to the new pistons (depending on the condition of the cylinders; taper, oval, etc. it may need 10 or 20 over pistons). At the very least you do need to have the cylinders ball honed if you just re-ring, but be sure to double check the chamfer on all the ports or the rings won't last very long...again you're better off with a fresh topend if possible because the cylinder itself is a wear item just as much as the pistons. Good luck.
  20. Ran across this desktop flag, thought it was pretty damn cool (yes it's running on my computer now): http://www.deskflag.com/
  21. Sweet, full ride, don't waste it...
  22. No rest for the wicked Stan, yesterday was the two-week point for me, I'll be on the road in 13 daze. Letsa goooo!
  23. Thanks J.J. The 18's did great, never had a problem on this track. I ordered a chain so I could run my 15-tooth front sprocket but it didn't show up in time, so was stuck with 14/40 gearing. Turned out perfect for the whoops but I coulda used a little more top on the straights. The track was about 90% sand tho, the only rocky section that worried me was a fast sweeper, so I took it easy there instead of risking a sidewall puncture. Wish I hadn't have blown the start, with that short gearing I might have gotten in front off the line and gone alot faster without having to deal with dust and slow guys...
  24. Got 'em, thanx ABM. Chris said he got some good ones too, when I get them tonight I'll post them all in the Images forum...
  25. According to airnav.com Leominster is between 450' and 630', so 500' would be a pretty close estimate. That's pretty close to sea level...
