  1. I would tend to agree with the above. I really enjoy my cub in the dunes, and I had had no trouble adjusting to the power delivery after a few rides in the dunes. There is nothing wrong with a good set of ported cylinders, but cubs do just fine in the dunes as well... csrmel, when I was debating which direction I wanted to go, all I had to do was ride a 421 cub in the dunes for a while and I was hooked...
  2. Word. Double word. And the inner hub is very cheap as well. Both are worth changing if either shows signs of wear. Sometimes 'next time' comes at a much greater cost... :ermm:
  3. I agree with that statement, for I am in the exact same situation. I have always used haulers on my trikes... I agree, that is a lot of tire R&D.
  4. Had I known this at the time I bought mine, I would have sent mine in. It is now a serviceable shift cam just holding down a shelf. :ermm:
  5. How does it run with TR6 pipes? I would like to hear from someone who actually has ported cylinders and TR6 pipes...
  6. You do not need them.
  7. I agree, it is a good deal.
  8. RPM has a lifetime warranty. The Lonestar Axcalibar on my R has a lifetime warranty, and I still have the receipt 13 years later...
  9. The only experience I had with magnetic particle was checking landing gear struts, etc... Used fluorescent penetrant to check fan flades, etc, basically field testing just like you said. X-ray was used for engine mounts, etc... Used eddy current for ribs, spars, etc... It has been a while though.
  10. I like straight paddles on all my bikes (banshee, ATC250Rs). I tried Skat-Trak Edge and I will never buy anything but a straight paddle again, even for my trikes. Some say it takes more technique to use the straights, but I have never had any trouble doing whatever I have wanted to do with straight paddles...
  11. Improper break-in could account for the less than desireable top-end results... :ermm:
  12. I concur.
  13. NGK must have loved you.
  14. I really think you will be much happier with Haulers with an eight inch wheel... :ermm: Eight inch 0.125 wheels will work well with which ever you purchase.
  15. I have had much success with dye penetrant inspection (fluorescent penetrant to be exact). The biggest problem with dye or fluorescent penetrant methods is making sure the parts/components are adequately clean prior to the inspection process. You are correct, X-ray is definitely a better method, for it detects faults/defects under the surface. FireHead, I was going to try and throw you a curve ball by mentioning magnetic particle, but I figured it wasn't worth trying to get one over on you...
  16. Only necessary if clearing the clutch arm with bigger carbs is an issue...
  17. I would like to sell him the parts he needs for his next build.
  18. The stator side of the shift cam is machined down, and a bearing is installed. The shift cam will have a bearing on each end just like it should have had from the factory. The modification is not going to be the fix all, solve all of transmission/shifting problems, but it does allow the shift cam to spin very easily... EDIT: The modified shift cam, modified shift star, and modified shift shaft will be a huge improvement in transmission performance (assuming things are not worn or damaged) over stock. You do not necessarily need the shift pro modification. I would inspect the shift adjust bolt and replace it if necessary while the basket is removed...
  19. Do you have access to any kind of NDI test equipment (maybe eddy current)? A dye penetrant inspection would most likely reveal any surface cracks...
  20. I use a shift cam with the bearing modification. Trinity sells the same thing for $129.99, and it has been fine for me. Alba's $149.99 is not such a crazy, low price after all!
  21. Any chance there is a material deficiency involved with the cracked domes?
  22. Are you referring to "off the shelf" domes or domes cut for special/specific applications?
  23. Sounds like jetting to me as well, I would run the 35s with your setup... Just to satisfy my curiosity, what needles are you using?
