  1. A TZ can be used, but it is only really useful when the application calls for a high radial load. The downside to a cylindrical bearing, such as a TZ, is that it is not capable of withstanding the perpendicular load that a ball bearing can withstand (some bearings have tapered cylinders to accommodate a perpendicular load). Many people who use a TZ also use straight cut gears, for the stock angled gears can put a perpendicular load on the TZ bearing which could lead to premature failure (especially if the races are out of line). A max load bearing is a better choice unless the engine's power is high enough to warrant the use of a TZ bearing.
  2. I concur, TZ and Max Load should have groove and come with a full clip.
  3. Nice work, Jeff! Seat covers are looking great!
  4. For general two-stroke knowledge, read Two-Stroke Tuners Handbook by Gordon Jennings and Two-Stroke Performance Tuning by A. Graham Bell. You will not only know what things are, but you will know how and why.
  5. Sorry to hear that, Dave. What is sad, is that the cases will probably end up getting dumped somewhere. Hope you get them back...
  6. The bike is out of control awesome. Very nice build! These were the good old days...
  7. We will bring you back to the darkside of the dunes, don't worry. You will once again be a triker...
  8. I am up for some summer three-wheeling, Ben!
  9. Jeff is a good man to deal with. The covers he makes are very nice, and great quality. Give him a call if you want a custom seat cover!
  10. V-Force reeds are really not useful on a stock ported engine. I would do what was mentioned, timing plate, shave the head, after-market reeds (not v-force), etc. As mentioned, shaving the head is cheap. It is cheap even if you buy a different head to shave. If you do go with an after-market head, buy a Noss or a Chariot Performance rather than Pro Design...
  11. The stock gearing for a '98 is 14/41, correct? I know a lot of people like to run 13 front for trails and woods riding, you might want to try that. A one tooth change in the rear makes a little difference, but a one tooth change in the front makes a big difference.
  12. Same case saver, and I am pretty sure I had to cut my stock cover as well...
  13. Do you have recessed domes? With a Cool Head and a 4mm crank, you should be using recessed domes. The 795 series pistons are used with a long rod, but the pistons will stick up 2mm when a 4mm crank is used. That is why the domes are recessed, or the spacer plate is used, or the thicker gasket set-up is used (stock head).
  14. Those are used to vary the pressure in each cylinder, just in case it pulls to the right or left on the hill.
  15. I don't think the head itself is different, just the F.A.S.T. logo engraved on it. Noss does one for HJR and I think Wildcard as well (maybe others as too). Jeff might have custom domes cut to certain specifications. Noss and Chariot are the two I would choose from...
  16. 1. Will there be a noticeable increase in fuel consumption? I am already close to the edge of my range when I make my usual round trip from Egin to Choke Cherry and back. I noticed an increase in fuel consumption, especially hill-shooting. I use about 8-10 gallons a day when duning and hill-shooting. It is reasonable on gas when just dune riding. 2. Will the cub's power not be dunner friendly? (all top end, no mid) I dune mine all the time, even with a duneable override. As mentioned, cubs shine in the dunes. 3. Will I sacrifice any reliability, or increase the amount of time spent tuning or wrenching? Hours and hours of time on mine, no less reliable. On gas, I tweek it now and then, make adjustments for big temperature and elevation changes, but overall it is just like a regular two-stroke. 4. Will I have a hard time shifting with my stock tranny? Hit and miss. Mine shifted great until I installed straight-cut gears shortly after building it. After installing the gears, it would not shift into 4th on the hill under power. On flat ground it was fine. I installed a duneable override, for power is useless without 4th and 5th gears. Others seem to have no trouble at all, and some cannot shift under any power... 5. Will the power make me forget all these questions? I absolutely LOVE the power! Bottom line, there will be a few trade-offs. I really like having a cub, but I also like to take my trusty old dinosaur ATC-R to the dunes to rip around on. I have actually learned to appreciate my R even more now that I have a cub. Two completely different riding experiences, obviously. I would not go back to a regular banshee after doing a cub upgrade (assuming I could only have one Banshee). It really depends on what you want to do... I was able to ride one before I did mine, so that made the decision a no-brainer for me, LOL. I was hooked...
  17. I wonder if the old one you have is the thick one some people use with a 4mm crank and no spacer plate. I would not reuse a head gasket...
  18. BUMP! Nice, quality part and a good price! Wish someone had one in this condition for sale when I was looking for one...
  19. As far as I know, the RZ350 is water-cooled and the RD350 is air-cooled...
  20. Yes, they can just fail without notice. It will work fine, and then suddenly fail without notice. CDIs are solid-state components, so they either work or they do not. CDIs cannot be bench-checked like a stator, harness, or coil...
  21. I used mine in the dunes for more than a year without any trouble. We run oval races in the dunes, rip the long hills, everything. I started out pussy-footing it, but that lasted about 10 minutes. I do not intentionally beat on it, but I certainly do not baby it either...
