  1. Looks to me like you have more than one problem here. The idle screw needs to screw in enough to lift the slide, hard to say how much, depends on how you drilled an tapped the hole... File some more of the boss on the carb if you think the screws are not penetrating enough. Since it is backfiring, my guess is you have an airleak, make sure the choke tube is in place (little black tube 1/4 x 2"), carb tops are on properly and the boot clamps are tight. On my bike, the markers are in the centre of the window. What are your mods? Filter, pipes, etc?
  2. Kenda Bearclaws, 22" 6-ply, these babies throw tennis ball size roost with ease, perfect for digging trenches... Your motor needs some balls to turn them though...
  3. Glad to hear you're ok! That a-arm is toast man, get another one. I'm sure NYUK has some ...
  4. From the pic it doensn't look like the cylinder has been honed yet, get it honed and then see what it looks like. Silly question, have you measured the bore yet, might be time for a fresh bore and pistons anyway, any idea what the compression was before the strip down?
  5. If your motor is stock then there is little chance of the port timing being off, or ever being off. The port timing refers to the period in degress of crank rotation that the ports(exhaust/transfer/intake) are uncovered by the piston. If you want to learn about this, go to Macdizzy.com, he can explain it better than most of us... 6. Same here, haven't gotten through the Premium link yet, took to long...
  7. We're racing the Baja1000, you comin?
  8. The following copied from BenBB's Electrical FAQ, thanks Ben Click on this sentence for the complete BenBB's Electrical FAQ Q#29:How do I test the Ignition Coil on the Stator? A#29:Using an ohmmeter and the specifications above, check the resistance between the red wire and the green wire on the four-wire harness coming out of the stator. Find the four-wire connector (usually white), at the front of the airbox on the right-hand side of the bike. Depress the little plastic retainer on the connector and disconnect the two connector halves. Take a look at the wire on the connector towards the front of the bike, it should run under the carbs and into the left-hand side of the motor
  9. That means its a 1/4" in diameter and 2" in length. Looks like this... Normally black
  10. Now we're talkin! I'd give my left nut to be involved with the Baja1000. Sadly, the best I can do is send a $100 to start the ball rolling, who's admin for The Team?
  11. Just go back to stock, I bet it's rubbing your cables and hoses and damaging the carb boots.
  12. Thanks Brooke, I needed that!
  13. Congrats man! I'll have a few cold ones on you tonight...
  14. Nice bike XT, I ride almost everyday, but mostly technical singletrack. My bike is a lightweight hardtail, no big hits for me... I'm getting too old
  15. Check that the floats actually float and that there is no damage or dirt on the seat of the fuel valve. Also check that the float height is set correct: With the bowl removed and the carb upside down and the fuel valve seated, measure from the bowl sealing face to the top of the float pivot, should be 0.80~0.88" or 20~22mm. Adjust the height by bending the tab. Increasing the height lowers the level of fuel in the bowl. Also check that the bowl drain screw is not open, (phillips head screw on the float bowl, difficult to get to on the right carb when it's mounted)
  16. Antwa hoe lyk dinge daar swaer? Like the other guys said, 2-strokes normally rev up when they run out of fuel, so try to avoid it. If you really want to empty the carbs after riding then just close the petcock and open the bowl drains to empty them. How's the shoulder doing now, you back on the move again?
  17. I think it's definately an airleak, should be easy to find. Check the carb boots and clamps, especially in the area of the crossover tube or boost bottle if you have one. Other places to check would be carb tops, choke tube, reed cage gaskets etc. If not an airleak, possibly a damaged reed?
  18. I think it's a great idea to get an HQ team together. I'd love to do help out, but not much chance. How about BenBB, he has some desert seat time in? I'd also be willing to donate $100 to the BHQ Baja 1000 fund for 2005, get this ball rolling guys! Good find on the pics Meat
  19. Thanks to NYUK, I'm also a happy shopper. Nice ad Stan!
  20. Blocked gas cap vent or hose?
  21. Which thread exactly, the one in the frame or on the stem? If it's an external thread you could use an external thread restorer

  23. Same here, first thing I noticed when I took my first ride...
  24. I always wear mine, I couldn't take my buddy's KX500 roost any other way
  25. I use Stahlwille, German made, never broken anything. I love tools and wouldn't mind Snap-on, but had the Stahlwilles handed down to me by my grandad and have just been collecting them since...
