What my issue is, is how are the rings in good condition on a stock bore, and the cylinder walls are fine, then how do they have that much slop? Did you just buy the bike?

which ever manufacturer you like, but a cracked reed might be your issue. Get a Clymers manual!

If your running ruts and jumps etc..... stay away from a .125 rim, you will need at least a .160 regardless of your size. Good choice on the tire distributor, they have wicked fast shipping even to me in Canada, 3 days, WOW! For me its either Razrs, or Holeshots

clymers manual for yamaha banshee
midlifecrisis replied to yamaha banshee's topic in Product Reviews
Compared to the clymers, the yamaha manual is poo! Yes it tells you how to install a clutch. It is based on a complete tear down and rebuild. -
Push start only then boggs down/wont idle

I kinda think you have at least some of the answers to what might be wrong here. The thread kinda seems to be going in circles though. Make sure first that the choke tube is on between the carbs. As Larry said earlier, clean and inspect all parts of the carbs, taking apart only one at a time, as the components inside are somewhat different (even take some pics of what your doing to keep track). Once you have cleaned out the jets, slides, bowls etc.... Give her a try and see what happens. The bike will be more of a pig to start if the compression is low, but its not like your waaayyyy under the minimum. A top end, if needed, is hard to price out, it depends on what is needed. If you need to bore the cylinders due to scratching on the walls thats usually around $60 -$80 per cylinder, and the machine shop wont do it for you unless they have the new pistons there, so that they can confirm sizes. Obviously you will need new pistons, rings, wrist pins, clips (+/- $250) etc.... Make sure the set you buy is a complete set. Some times on ebay you will see a set that is way cheaper than all the others, and thats usually why. You will also need to purchase a top end gasket kit ($30-$50). If something has happened inside the top end (ie....a broken clip etc....) then something will have fallen down into the bottom end and it too may have to come apart. For some more performance, while the cylinders are off, they could be ported to match your pipes, for a huge hp gain. These bikes are pretty simple to fix, you just have to take your time when youre learning it, do it right, do it once. If and when you buy your top end components, but a Clymers manual as well, it will become your new best friend. Besides Bansheehq anyway. -
Not sure what you mean by rattling in the cylinder? If the rings were that shot, maybe they dropped some shrapnel down into the cases? (try posting up some pics using photobucket). The machine shop that does your bore/hone will tell you what you will need to do to do the cleanup on the cylinders, they will also ask you to provide them with pistons and rings before they machine for you (at least a good shop will). What are the numbers on the top of your existing pistons? That will give you an idea of where you are right now. Wisecos are the way to go. I did a tonne of research before I did my rebuilds, and both times, wiseco was my choice IMO.

You are supposed to keep 1 of the plugs in when you do the test, otherwise all of the pressure that you are trying to read will escape out of the open plug chamber. Also, the aluminum plate that attaches to the carb side of the airbox on the inside usually made by pro flow is what hes talking about. The filter slides onto a cage which is part of that plate, on an aftermarket setup. If yours is stock, the aluminum plate wont be there, and the filter will slide into a plastic groove moulded into the front of the airbox, and can rattle loose under bumpy conditions.

-

I mx and trail my banshhe only. It is a great bike for this type of riding, You have to invest a little in time on your suspension and even a arm setup, as its quite narrow, but you dont want to be too wide for the trails, and you certainly can do this at any time, not necessarily right away. I have pro circuit platinums on my bike, and in my pinion, are the best pipe for this type of riding, good low end, and awesome mid to top end punch. I have a buddy who rode up to my place on his ducati 1000r and took my quad out for a rip, it scared the crap out of him. Now for someone who rides a bike with that much low end to have the crap scared out of him, says something about the banshee. Good luck!

Where to get plastic skidplates?
midlifecrisis replied to 08 BANSHEE's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Try motosport.com, or rockymountainatv.com, they may, and they have free shipping to us for over a certain amount. If not, PM Savage420, he knows of another dealer like them here in Canada. Did you try Royal Distributing? " -
Low compression causing no "powerband"?
midlifecrisis replied to sp1tekiller's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
120- 150 psi, is normal for the shee, anything lower although not necessarily requiring a rebuild is suspect. More than 155 psi, look into running non pump gas. -
X2, you can find adjustable timing plates all the time on the for sale forum for like $20. All of the degrees of advance are clearly marked. I was once told you can mod your own stocker, but for the price of a used one in good condition, I found it wasnt worth it. Welcome to your new addiction.

midlifecrisis replied to Keyser Soze's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
Although Ive been fixin up the shee since I bought it seized in February, I havent done a lot of research on the carbs. What kind of improvement over stock, will the 28mm offer?
