  1. i had a nice coat of oil on my piston skirts as well, when i tore top end down for porting. yeah, you could run some cheap junk oil from wal-mart and your engine won't go tight, its just that it won't burn as clean, or run as crisp, or provide as much wear protection on the engine components.
  2. the offer that i got from that guy kinda fell thru. i was up for it, but he still doesn't know if he should have the cylinders ported, or sell them as is. i wasn't trying to say that i could do "any kind" of port job. i was just saying that i could do a "stage 3" port job (which is way better than OEM), if anyone was interested in that kind of port job. if someone else wanted a mx port job, or whatever, i would just send them to kevin, etc. i also wasn't going to be "experimenting" on other people's stuff....i would only do what the templates say to do. i appreciate the helpful tips, etc from others on here. i gave up on trying to provide my porting service to others on here, as i don't really care anymore. i talked to a local motorsports shop, and he said that he will probably have me port his son's banshee and his son's snowmobile. as i have done both machines before. hopefully i can get business thru him. i also have 1 guy on another site, sending me his viper snowmobile cylinders for porting. i did my buddies viper and it works great. hopefully this other dude will spread the word on this other site, and then hopefully others can send me their cylinders too. later guys.
  3. seeing as klotz has a higher flash point, i wonder if that's why i noticed such a large amount of carbon and residue in that dirt bike motor? if amsoil has a lower flash point, maybe that's why i noticed it burn nice and clean in my banshee?
  4. i personally run amsoil dominator @ 50:1. i will only run amsoil in my machines. that's what i like and found works great. i've tore apart dirtbike engines for rebuilds, that have ran on klotz their whole life, and the insides were all carbony and dirty inside. my banshee was nice and clean, when i tore it down for porting. also, no indications of blow by....no burnt brown oil on the piston sides. very impressed w/this stuff. and i think it kinda smells like race gas, so it has a good odor to it too.
  5. i currently am running 340 mains, stock needle & height, 27.5 pilots. i would throw the 340's in, cause you aren't going to hurt anything if its too rich.
  6. you said you have pod filter w/lid removed. you mean k&n filter w/lid removed? what fmf pipes do you have? what's your elevation and riding temps?
  7. that was it.....thanks guys!!
  8. does anybody have the link to the home made leak down tester? i seen a link for it once on here, but can't find it anymore.
  9. whooops, i didn't even see that your shee was ported....lol. yep, my ported shee is running 340 mains too. your rs stator, definetly ain't helping matters.
  10. same thing happened to me too. i hate when the screen is oriented that way....lol.
  11. i would only do the stage 3 dune/play port job. if someone wanted that kind of port job, i could help them out. i'm not saying i can do all the different types/styles of banshee porting. if someone emailed me to port their cylinders for mx or drag/race, i would tell them flat out...."i don't have a port style for that type of riding." i think you guys got confussed, and thought i was saying i can port any banshee, any port style. i'm only out there to help the ones interested in dune/play port....which is pretty much aimed at the general rider, who rides in local farmers fields etc, that wants more power, or to beat his buddy. i will tell you that this stage 3 race logic job, will put a shit eatin' grin on 80%-90% of the guys here on this forum. not many could tell the seat of the pants difference, in kevins dune/play port job versus the race logic dune/play port job, or whatever. yes, there are some that could maybe feel a difference, or see a 2-3hp difference, when ran on a dyno, but most would be satisfied....imo.
  12. i know what you're saying. i can see it from a customers standpoint. yes the port job is easy, but you still need the tools and a steady hand. old shaky mcgee ain't the one you want in there.....lol.
  13. if you have k&n pods, bump up to 27.5 pilots. your bottom is likely lean. even try raising the needles 1 clip postion. see how that works and report back.
  14. i think you think that i have only done this 1 set of cylinders and that i will be experienting different things on peoples cylinders. i won't. i'll only do what the template says. people have told me its cheating. i don't see it any different then the guys who use tsr to get their porting data. the tsr is simply a tool, to help you in a engine build, like my template. i have done snowmobile cylinders too, using the race logic templates. i know that the stage 3 templates i have, raise the exhaust port 1mm, which would make the rpm that "peak" power is derived at, a little higher, and make the engine more "peaky", so more suited to duneing or playing around....hence dune/play port. a woods port i'm going to guess has wide transfers, and maybe a little wider exhaust port, but not raised, as to keep the power curve more broad and not "peaky"....ideal for twisty trails. hence woods/mx port i kinda feel that if you are still able to get the air/fuel out of the cylinder quicker, w/larger intakes and exhaust, that the pipe can help draw more fuel mixture up thru the transfers, even tho the transfers didn't get largened. kinda like when you have your stock 26mm carbs and you get it ported. your shee will have more power and will pull harder, cause of the porting, even tho you never increased the carb size. yes, you would gain more with opening up the transfers (and carb size), but there is still a decent gain to be had, w/working on the exhaust and intakes only. doesn't mean i won't experiment w/ the transfers, or say that playing w/the transfers is silly....not at all. i will be playing around more w/the transfers on my shee this spring.....too busy w/snowmobile stuff right now.
  15. you guys keep thinking "cheap"...in terms of quality and not price. prime example....bondhus allen wrenches (like $12 and made in usa w/lifetime warranty) versus snap-on (like 3x as much, still made in usa w/lifetime warranty).better not be knockin down my port job, cause as the photos show...it ain't garbage. nice and even and symetrical. you're probably one of the stupid ass' that i would find behind the counter, who only knows "this" about the part, as what the computer screen tells you.....what make?.....is it 4X4?....does it have abs?....does the part look like this?.....oh, you said you have a ford and not a gmc.....let's start all over.
  16. i sent you a pm 2001Stroker. i'll take you up on that offer. i got to get my services out there somehow.
  17. yeah, i don't know why sooo many people hate it either. i run amsoil dominator @ 50:1 and love it. i use it in my snowmobiles too. exactly, i don't have worn out pistons and cylinders either.
  18. if we could, that would be great.
  19. i don't know if i would do it for free, but i would do it for a very cheap price. just so i get a little something out of my time. anyone need any stage 3 porting at this time?
  20. that's the worst port job i've ever seen. my work ain't even close to that. i think ray charles held the cylinder, while stevie wonder ran the grinder, and then some stoned random drunk guy, ran/adjusedt the speed/rpm of the grinder......lol. whoever did that port job, should just be shot.
  21. i personally like uping the pilots to 27.5 and leaving the needle stock. you might want to up the mains to 300. try out what you have tho, checking plugs etc, and go from there.
  22. thanks kevin for the tips. i don't mean to try and steal business from you or anything, but i just would like to have my name out there and have some people come to me for their porting needs. it would just tickle me to death, to have someone have me port their cylinders, then love the outcome, so they tell their buddies, and then before i know it, i have another fellow pm'ing me for porting his shee.
  23. wanna post pics of that? i'm assuming that you have the auxillary exhaust ports added?
  24. thanks snope. this spring its time to put some work into the transfers. i never messed w/the transfers like you had suggested. i thought i would take it in "stages" and see how it is after each change, instead of 4 or 5 things at once.
