mine vibrates a fair amount at idle and just above idle it does quite a bit. after about 1/8 throttle it goes away for the most part. to describe it a bit when its vibrating its worst i can see the spark plugs moving a little over 1/4 inch maybe. if that describes yours then i wouldnt worry about it.

i dont have a clue, but i would bet money that a bunch of guys are gonna say jeff at FAST

ya i worka ta small engine shop and we have one of those tiny tach things. they work good for setting the governor or something like that but it is frustrating to rev the engine and it is already slowing down before the tach shows anything. if there is one that reads quicker that would be a good option though. i think i would rather have an analog guage though

ive also been considering getting one that you attach to the spark plug wire. there is the trail tech vapor computer. that has a tach, not sure how it hooks up but it works without anything else. it also has a speedo, temp guage, and it shows your top speed and all that cool stuff

would it be a bad idea to get any old machnieshop to do them, would i be best off sending them to a builder? ok dumb question but you get the idea

try playing with your air screws

thanks for the input, its not what i wanted to hear but i guess ill talk to some machine shops do i get the pistons first and give them to the person so they can bore it to fit the pistons, or do I just tell them to go .020 over and the pistons will fit?

I am at maybe 300 feet above sea level here. As far as i know it hasnt been apart until now. i still have the cylinders on there and that .009 is with the old pistons. I measured it by pushing the piston to one side and put the feeler guage on the other side. Im not sure if thats the correct way or is it supposed to be .003 all the way around? ya and i didnt think 100 psi would be enough either and thats all i ever got on my dirtbike before and after a rebuild so i think both of the compression testers i tried are probaby not working right  ill see if i can get ahold of an expensive one here i also got the head shaved .020 yesterday  thanks for the help guys

i voted yes because i think they look cool cut but i dont see myself doing it to mine unless i have a second set of fenders. its not worth it to me to get sprayed in the face anytime i ride a wet trail, which is half the year around here. for summertime it would be sweet though.

not sure about that hose, as far as i know theres not supposed to be anyhting like that in the tank. if you have access to a compressor, compressed air works well to dry out fuel tanks. if you cant get a hold of a compressor you could wrap a clean rag around a long screwdriver or something and wipe it out in there, or i suppose you could put a bit of gas in, shake it around and make sure you dump it in a fish bearing stream after

Installing new pro-x pistons and rings

dont have to warm your bike up  sounds scary to me riding hard on a motor thats not fully warmed up  -
anytime iv tried cleaning a plug after fouling it it will usually work but not for long if it does. compression test

why do you want so short of gearing?
-
i think chains usually are 120 links when you buy them. thats plenty long enough so just make it the length you need. just be careful not to cut it too short, otherwise youll be like me replacing a chain that still had plenty of life in it. oh and on a sid enote i managed to get the chain on there after taking out a link and it took out my carrier bearings at the top of the mountain. i made it halfway down before they totally came apart and the chain came off and broke the case again :: then i got to push it for like 45 minutes with a flat tire. better than taking out my countershaft i guess  moral of the story: if you cut the chain too short buy a new one, dont try and squeeze it on there, a 100 dollar chain is better than a 200 carrier and whatever else gets wrecked as a result

yeaa 100 posts  anyway i just got out the feeler guages and when i push the piston over to one side i can get the corner of .009 in there so from what i understand that is too much but new pistons should fix that i think. also are you supposed to see crosshatching because i cant see any in either cylinder?
-
i think its the original top end. its an 03 but im not sure how many hours it has. it has the original front tires and they are almost smooth if that gives you an idea of how many hours it has. Im gonna rebiuld it anyway, I was just wondering if new pistons would fix the little bit of play in there. or maybe im just makin a big deal of nothing here

i just tested my compression today before i tore the motor down and i got 100 and 105 psi on one guage and 95 psi on both sides with the other guage. It ran great, it took 5 or 6 kicks to start it cold but after that it always. started first kick. you stroker guys are goin to laugh at this but it went pretty good too. i got the head off and everything looks good. i noticed that i can rock the pistons back and forth a little. there is no crosshatching visible in the cylinders so could that be causing it? I'm goin to put some new wisecos in it anyway so would those fix the problem, that is if its even an issue. I know there is supposed to be some clearance there, just not sure how much. also i plan on shaving the head .020 but it looks like the piston could hit the head. I'm 99.9 % sure that this is the first time the bike has been apart. I didnt check the squish before i took it apart but it should be fine i think. thanks in advance for any help

alright if nobody chimes in by the time i get mine off ill throw some calipers in there
