Detonation. He was running 93 octane w/ 145psi at rebuild. Motor didn't run long enough to fully break in. He went through 3 sets of pistons before he put the stock head back on....no problems after... The aftermarket heads are totoally different. The dome shape isn't the same. I have head mods and my domes aren't shaped anything close to stock. More of a cylinder shape and triangular at the top of the dome....Deeper cut too, but I get 165psi out of them.....

The aluminum bearing carrier on my shee weighs 5lbs, so that'd make your swingarm weigh 4lbs!!!! w/ the brake mounts......either your scale is wrong, or titanium is light as hell and lefty really doesn't have a Ti swingarm that he paid for... I'll post the weight of my stocker tomorrow night... -
Interesting,,everytime I get on a stock shee, thats the first thing I notice and hate, but thats me and thats what I like....I do know what you mean by having a light front end out of the corners though....thats w/ you running 18" tires?? Maybe gear it down to break those tires loose a little??? Just a thought.....Its what works for you!!!

110 sounds a bit low to me, and personally I'd freshen it up while its apart. You don't want to wait for a ring to snap and score your cylinders and get into the lower end bearings. Preventative maintenance.....I get 128psi at sea level w/ stock heads... As for the shaving head thing.....I don't recommend it. My friend tried that. He shaved .025 and kept putting holes through the top of the pistons. Put another stock head on and no problem. Not trying to stab anyone, but I just wouldn't like to see someone blow there motor ffrom someone else advice... A lot of people on here get away w/ it and it surprises me after seeing what my friend went through.....

If your not ported, then your losing hp and performance. Even the 28's will be too big for stock bore. Once you get it ported, then that'll be a different story and ask your porter what he recommends for his porting.....

a loose carb top will do that and make the motor really lean. Tighten it up and do another run....What size jets are you testing w/? -
Really.......You should be seeing more like 120-130psi.....What kind of guage do you have???
-
Make sure you get a few different sizes. You'll need them anyway for summer to winter.. I'd get some 280,290 and 300's. Everyone on here is running the NOS cool head and love them. The owner also post on here and has a good reputation. Prices are great too...I'm running a head mod from back in '89 before the cool head was made so I never bought one. Boysen reed petals are all you need. Cost $35....If you do a lot of trail, the you might want to consider shortening the swingarm -2". Makes a huge difference in handling and traction...

'Try adjusting the air screws and see where they like to be at. If the motor revs up, then your motor likes it. Turn the idle back down w/ the idle screw..If you don't notice any rpm change, then adjust to throttle response. Find the best setting between .5 turns out to 2.5 turns out....If the setting likes to be 2.5 turns out, then try a 50 pilot and readjust the air screw. I'm guessing your pilot is too rich and loading up when your off throttle....

I can't remeber his exact jetting, but pm Chase73. He has the same setup as you exept he has porting....I believe he has 35 pilots, 175 mains, but not definate. BTW, he liked his stock carbs better....Has problems getting his perfect too...

I ride about 90% in sand pits climbing vertical hills about 80' tall, I do alittle bit of mx and like to downhill jump. I do about 5% trail riding in 2nd-4th gear w/ occasional 5-6. I also dragrace once in a while for fun..... Thats what I meant by "type of riding". The more detailed you get, the better we can select a pipe for you....Pipes are extremely different powercurves, so its important that you tell us as much as you can.....

Toomeys, Reeds, Filters...... Jetting!?
Banchetta replied to jp-15's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
310 is a good start and go from there. Try different needle positions and you should notice your shee pulling harder on the bottom. The stock pilot is 25 and air screw is at 1.5 turns out. Try different settings for the air screw and shee where it likes to be according to throttle response. If your shee likes the air screws .5 turn out or less, then try a larger pilot (27.5) -
Have you done a compression test??

Maybe the motor has internal work done to it...I'd start w/ 330 mains and do a wot test in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds. PUll the plugs and see what they look like.. -
The reason why your getting different advice is because most people have only ridden one or two different pipes. Besides that, every pipe is made for a certain purpose. Depending on your type of riding, determines what pipe you should choose from. A low end pipe is great for tight trails like the 2 into 1 pipe. The midrange pipe is great for all around performance gains and great for sand pits, mx, and trails. PTR mids, DMC, FMF sst's, Bills, and fmf gnarly's are great midrange pipes. The high rev pipes are great for running wide open spaces where you want the motor to rev at the most for more top end speed. Areas for high revs are deserts, fastt TT's and long dragracing. High rev pipes: Toomeys, CPI, Thunder, PC, PT highs, etc... Tell us what type of riding you mostly do and we can give you more suggestions...

Reeds will richen the mixture from idle to 3/4 throttle. You could have gotten the same gains by raising the needles. What are you running for a pilot?? Sounds like they might be rich..
-
Temp is getting colder so you'll need larger jets.......also disconnect the little black box above the left exhaust?? I agree w/ Boony and check the orange and black wire on the coil.

I think your scale is safe to say 9.5 lbs like you originally said. That only sounds about right. I have to change my swingarm bearings and will weigh that. Its a -2, but its just for comparison. I still have my stocker too...Thanks for the info Lefty.. -
There is a black/ white or yellow striped wire that goes from the kill switch on the handlebars to the gas tank. You'll see a single connector. Disconnect it, thats the ground for the kill....
-
Putting carbs on w/o porting will lose performance. Trust me. I spent over 350 bucks to lose 8hp using 34mmPJ's...... Even ported stock carbs lost performance. the stock intake is perfect w/ the stock carbs. If you plan on porting later, the hold off and buy the carbs after you decide on what port to go with.....
-
I have a spare flywheel and would love to try that mod. Give me a shout if something doesn't work out, I'll post my thoughts on it on this forum....

No thermostats and don't ever say " you think"!!!!! Your are not your shee!!!!
