  1. Based on your mods, your jetting should be pretty close, but it sounds like you may have a rich spot in the middle. Have you cleaned your air filter recently? Did you possibly over-oil your K&N? I over-oiled mine once and had a similar problem (not getting enough air). If you still have the stock filter, try running with it once and see if that helps.
  2. Strap wrench and an impact worked well for me.
  3. Banshee's don't have rev limiters. What you see unplugged is most likely the TORS assembly, and the parking brake switch. Sounds like your problems are with the carbs. First of all, take both carbs apart one at a time, and clean them out really good. Use carb cleaner spray and compressed air. If you still have problems, you need to play with the jetting. My guess is with your mods, you shouold be ok with stock pilots (25), needle clip in middle position (stock steeing) and somewhere around a 260 main jet.
  4. Yes. You will. You will need to rejet though.
  5. Don't waste you money on a "kit". Stock needles and pilot jets should be fine with your mods. Main jets are cheap. Buy two of each from 280 up to 320 and play with it till you get it right.
  6. What kind of "K&N kit" did you get? Also, no matter what you got, 180 is way too small. Did you mean 280?
  7. Shaving the head will raise your compression, giving you more low and midrange power. You should be able to go to most any machine shop and have them mill .030" off the sealing surface of the head. Shouldn't cost much more than 35 bucks or so... Be sure to use a new gasket, and check clearance once the head is back on.
  8. Adjusting the air screws will let you dial in the jetting up to about 1/8 throttle. If you get less than one turn out, jump to the next bigger pilot jet. If it is slow or sputtering between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle, move the needle clip to the center groove.
  9. Where is the needle clip set now? I would try putting the clip in the middle groove.
  10. I agree. Unless you have money to burn, changing pipes wouldn't be worth the money. Fatties are a great all around pipe. Have some port work done, and you will be much happier. A good builder will port your motor according to what pipes you have, what type of riding you do, etc... You could have a nice port job done for the same price a new set of pipes will run you.
  11. For performance, yes. For sound, that depends. You may not get that waaaaaaahhhhhh sound without the airbox. However, I wouldn't be too concerned about that. Get some pipes on there, and intake sound will not be an issue! Pipes will also make yor airfilter change much more worth while.
  12. Because it is liquid cooled with no fan, you dont want to let it idle for long periods of time. Air moving through the radiator is necessary to keep the coolant temp down. I let mine idol for 4 or 5 minuted to warm up. Anytime after warmup, I never let it idle for more than a minute or so. You shouldn't need to go any smaller than a 25 pilot (stock). What kind of plugs are you using, and what do they look like when you "foul" them?
  13. I know I used a strap wrench and an impact gun to remove my flywheel nut. If I remember correctly, I did the same to remove the clutch bolt. It has been a long time though. May want to wait for another reply...
  14. You should be able to take .030" off, and still run pump gas. Anything more than that, and you may need to have the domes reworked. Use a new gasket, and do a compression check when you are done just to be safe.
  15. If you stay away from water, the clamp-ons are the way to go. Keep an eye on your jetting when you switch intake setups.
  16. Take the bowl off the bottom of the carbs, and spray carb cleaner through the pilot and main jet passages. Also clean and inspect the needle and seat that the floats attach to, and make sure the floats move freely. do this one carb at a time, and see if that works.
  17. Did it just start doing this, or has it always been like that? What kind of silencers? Have they ever been repacked?
  18. For the same price as a boost bottle, you could have .030" shaved off of your stock cylinder head, and get 100 times the performance gains. Especially in the low end, like you want.
  19. Even though the manual says 24:1, that is alot of oil. Run it anywhere between 32:1 and 40:1 and you should be fine. Keep an eye on the jetting also.
  20. That is a little excessive. What oil to gas ratio are you running? Also, check that oil on the floor. Are you sure it is the premix oil?
  21. Naaaaaa... If they were listed under womens underwear, I would have seen them
  22. I have 175lbs en each cylinder with +7 timing. I run straight 100LL av gas and have never had any problems. Bike runs awesome, and havent lost any compression.
  23. Like everyone else said, keep up on the maintenance, a top end will last a long time. Also, always let the motor idle until it is warm before EVERY ride, and that will help too.
  24. I would start with 300 main's, and go down one size at a time till you get it right. May also need to jump to a 27.5 pilot. Stock needle with clip on middle groove (stock) should be fine.
