  1. Yeah it still has the stockers and the 25 pilot is stock. Factory setting on air screws with 25's is 2 turns out,but that is if you still mix the gas 20:1 or 24:1 as the manuel calls, I'm running the BelRay H1R at 50:1.I have used this oil for quit a while and on a few Banshee's and several bikes no problems as for as oiling, This bike I'm working on has been sitting for several years, It's an 2001 and stock save for pipes and K+N, no snorkel. The carbs were very dirty and I replaced the rings even though the stockers looked good and gave good compession. I was just concerned about the lean settings on this bike to get it to run properly.
  2. I had the same problem a few weeks back and mine turned out to be the needle jet. Not the needles but the part that the needles sit inside of. If you remove the main jet and washer take a small punch and push the center up " the brass that the main screws into" It should push to the top fairly easy but you may need to tap lightly. It can only be removed from the top so you should already have the caps off if you got this far. Soak them in cleaner and hold up to light each hole should be clear they have a bunch of tiny air holes. Mine run great after getting these clean. My left cylinder was the problem and would idle and fire on top just not in the midrange. Sometimes if I reved her she would backfire. I hope this helps. Get new plugs and Clymers manuel this is the Banshee Bible.
  3. I took the advise on the air screws, I turned them in to .5 out and rode some it was worse, I kept doing this .5 turn at a time until I got out to 2.5 out and the stutter is gone. I rode her hard wide open and pulled plugs, dark tan, rode in midrange for a bit pulled plugs tan still, after riding slow the plugs were black so I kept adjusting the air screws until smooth now have a dark tan after slow cruising and going through technical stuff, plugs still real dark after idling but that is ok to me. As I mentioned before my current jetting is now 280 main, 25 pilot with air crews at 2.5, needle second from top. This is a lean setting compared to other Banshees I have had. Is it possible that reeds are soft? Or that 50:1 fuel mixture but I run the same oil in other bikes. She pulls hard and does not give me any problems, just don't want to burn down. I felt like she pulled harder with the 27.5 pilot but was rich down low as well as trying the fourth needle clip as some have mentioned. As long as she is running good and not showning to be lean I should be Ok, Oh yeah its around 50 degrees and what effect while the warmer weather do to my midrange and pilot? I feel like 2.5 turns out on that 25 pilot is lean but plugs show otherwise.
  4. I try to keep her in the band most of the time but those pesky 450 fourpokes keep getting hang up in front of me. I do a lot of hillclimbs that have section where you have to get out of the throttle or crash into a tree or the back of those fourpoke guys. I would like to get tuned in were leftting off and then getting back on is right there not that stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttttttttttter that I get, I then clutch it and jump about 20 yrds in whatever direction the bike wants or wheels spin like mad, both is not fun on a 100yrd climp that goats cannot stand on.
  5. I have moved the needle from the stock to the fourth clip she run worse then went up to the second clip that help for the most part just a little hint left when cruising the tight area and when you open her up in the straights you either wait for her to clean out by stuttering for a couple seconds or clutch her and take off. Any more suggestions?
  6. I just got back from our annual Good Friday ride, bike run great just still have that midrange stutter that seems to be there until you either ease off the throttle some or mash on it to clean it out and it will run fine for several minutes and when riding at a slow pace in technical stuff for a few minute she stutters in the low midrange, once up to 1/4-1/2 she runs flawless. I checked the plugs several times yesterday after riding in different condtions, plugs seems right on the money after a fast pace section or hillclimb, midrange seems good also slow riding or idling gives a black wet plug. 280 mains, 25 pilot, air screws at 1.5, needle on second clip from top. I have tried a 27.5 pilot she run good only if you backed air screws out to 3 turns. I have also played with needles, runs better on that leaner second clip. I am running Belray H1R at 50:1. K+N filter, lid on no snorkel, elev 1060ft. Is it possible that a rich main could effect lowend? Reeds getting weak? She pulls hard to top with no flatspots, plugs have always read a little rich. This lowend stutter has always been her I just would like to make it better for me. My old shee never had this problem with same setup although I was running Bills pipes on it instead.
  7. At the present I am running Fattys with power cores with spark arrestors the long ones, a k+n filter in the stock airbox with lid no snorkle, I switched back to the 25 pilot air screw out 1.5 ,stock needles on the second notch from the top, 280 mains in warm, 300 in the cold. Bike runs great at this setup plugs seem fine at all ranges. I thought about buying a set of those Dynajet needles just to have a little more flexability. I found a couple post where others have run there stock needles on that second clip with Fattys, mine runs to rich on the third and just boggs out with the fourth notch. I don't know if the bike has aftermarket reeds or not that sometimes requires the second clip, my reeds are in good shape and are the yellowish color with no cracks or distortion. I have heard that if my reeds happen to be the seven year old factorys, they could be worn and cause a rich condition. But I will most likely replace them in a few weeks just in case. I am open to all ideas. Thanks in advance. Oh yeah carbs are in sync. elev around 1000ft
  8. Now that she's running good again, would I be better to put the 25 pilot back in? Some say that it only affects idle but I can feel a diffence in the midrange it seems to pull harder with the 27.5 with air screws at 3 out. I have the needle on second clip from top , runs like junk on fourth and gets better as you go up to the second. The only flaw I feel I have is if you lug around in tight woods for awhile you have to open it up to clean her out every once and awhile. Plugs are nice and tan after riding open trails but get back into those tight woods they get pretty dark looking. I have run it around with the 25 pilots with air screws out from .5 up to 2 out and it runs better in the tight woods this way ,still have to keep needle on second, just don't pull as hard on the long stretch. Any suggestions?
  9. I have jetted and rejetted, clean my carbs ,raised, lowered needles, switch mains, pilots, you name it I done it. My bike developed a mis in the right cyl bike would idle fine and run good 1/2 throttle and up just in one little area it would surge and backfire out the right pipe. I searched and have had people to tell me to adjust needle, change pilots, etc. I tore into the bike and removed the reeds to make sure that they were fine, I then tore the carbs apart this time removing the needle jet, this jet on the right carb was completly stopped up. Not in one search did anyone mention this. The needle jet and the needles are two different parts of the carb. I placed everything in the soak tank for a hour or so and rinsed and used compressed air to dry, after getting the bike back together she run like a champ. My bike is a little strange that it like the 280 main,27.5 pilot, air screws out 3, needle on second clip from blunt. I hope this helps others with the same problems that I have had. I still get that little bit of hesitation in the midrange while lugging if I place the clip on the middle ,by leaning out the middle she runs great, any suggetions? I know the pilot is too fat with air screws out at 3 but she pulls better with the 27.5. I have tried the stock 25 and played with air screws, cannot get her to pull as hard. Sorry such a long story I was bored.
  10. Update!!! Today she like like crap, right cyl would mis and back fire until you opened her up, no oil out of the pipe and plug is fine. I took the carbs apart and found that on that side the carbs needle jet had grit in all of the little holes, could this have been my problem ? I will not be able to find out until tomorrow evening. I put my needles back on the middle clip while I had them apart, I hope fixes it. I have had a crank seal to go out before and she fouled the plug quick, this cyl was lean in the middle. Grit and carbs don't get along.
  11. Well today I lowered the needle by raising the clip on the needles, on stock needles they come set at the 3rd clip, it sounds crazy to me but by leaning it out in the middle fixed my problem, no more hesitation in the middle. I searched this topic and most say to put they needle clip on the 4th but my bike run worse then it did on the 3rd. As far as I know the bike has stock reeds but,I bought it from another guy and was told that the bike was stock except for pipes and filter. Anything else I need to check for?
  12. I am running stock motor with Fatty's, k+n, 280 main jets, 27.5 pilot, air screw 1.5 out, clip on middle setting with stock needles, snorkel removed. Runs good ,just if you idle around for a few and get on the throttle she will go but make a hestitating sound.I also get the same feeling when coming off the pipe bike will sometimes start bucking lightly at mid throttle. I have no problems on open trails just tight areas, most Banshee are tempermentsl in the low end but I can't seem to get rid of this surging while cruising and the hesitation that somtimes arises after a brief time of idling around.
  13. I have been riding my present Banshee for awhile and not had any major problems, Monday a group of the guys from work went to The Black Mountain Rec Park, my bike run good until I got about half way up a extremly rough section about a mile long and constant climb upward on the mountain. I first lost power and knew that I was about to overheat so when she finaly started to steam from the overflow I shut it down for awhile. After the cool down she run great and as it always has I just had a midrange sputter, I pulled the plugs and they were black and wet, so I put those back in and run her pretty hard for a while and reckecked them, they were back to the normal dry brown color, but cannot get rid of that midrange sputter right before the pipe. I have backed the pilot back down to a 25 and set air screws at 2 turns out still no cure. Is it possible that I may need to drop the clip on the needles to lean her up? I did install new plugs as well. I have always had to small sputter just before the pipe just not as noticable until now and it was my first big ride of the year so it is possible that it was there before.Bike idles fine has instant throttle response and runs great just everynow and again she sputters before pipe and sometimes bucks and jerks as you cruise after coming off the pipe.
  14. Well i have been riding some in the evenings, temps around 20-30. This crazy cold weather drives me crazy with jetting. The other day she run fine with 240's but i felt that it was a little lean do to a faint ring on my plug chop,so I bump up to a 260 this caused a bog on top so I pulled the snorkle off and she was back right with gobs of power. I rode with this setup for a few days and the temps got even colder so I bump to a 280 and the bike still screams and shows to be close on plug chop but still a little lean. These are big jumps on the mains just for 30deg temp changes. Last week I put in the 27.5 pilot and it did make a difference for the best. I rode all evening and just out of curouistity I pulled my plugs while out in the woods they looked nice and dark, so I rode really hard back keeping the revs up in every gear, stopped and pulled plugs again they changed to a tan color. Maybe I need to get some 300's and 310' for this cool weather. The bike runs flawlessly no bogs or anything, how can the bike keep running so good in each range with changing the mains that my jumps?? I am just picky about being right on my tuning, I love the responses for it helps me make decisions on how to propely tune my bike.
  15. I read about this in the March edition of QUAD off-road magazine,Article "Sport Quads Uncovered-Know everything before buying your next racer"page55 talks about the Banshee electrical problems with the stock stator and air filtration system. I was just curoius because I have never had a problem with either one of my bikes, besides the fact that everyone knows the stock air filtration system is junk.
