I'd recommend doing a leakdown test so you can eliminate air leaks from the equation.

Mojave desert is a desert yes.

I dont know the exact size for the pickup gap, but a matchbook cover it very close to the gap you need, so take a matchbook and see if you can fit the cover in between the flywheel and the pickup coil without any play.

Dang didnt know TORS was that so picky!
watkins replied to Walleye's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Just unplug the black box under the tank of the left side as stated above to bypass tors. However I would do what was suggested and get the elimination kit so you can get rid of the POS carb tops. -
Like Justintoxicated Glamis & Gordons Well is the So. Cal spot for riding. Paddles arent a necessity in the dunes, they just make life easier. Also, there is also Ocotillo wells (3 hours from you), and I am sure there are places in the Mojave desert north east of LA. Also... i am pretty sure there is a place to ride in the hills off the grape vine but I dont know if they require spark arrestors or not.

Those levers are top notch. I had my shee cart wheeling down pole line road (chasing me actually) out in Ocotillo... bars, stock front brake lever.. destroyed... asv clutch lever... couldnt even find a scratch on the thing.... great product in my opinion.

I wouldnt take the silencer all the way off, but just removing spark arrestor portion shouldnt hurt the motor, you may light a few bushes on fire.. but..

Well.. first off as far as suspension goes it really depends on your budget... Elka & TCS make great shocks but they are also very expensive. Works suspension is an upgrade from stock, but no all that great but its cheaper than an Elka setup. As far as motor mods go, I think a Cub motor would be overkill for trail/woods riding. I should send you jugs to a good builder and get a Wood/Trail port done if thats the kind of riding you are doing. I am sure someone else will chime in as well. Just my $0.02.

I agree, but lets get the easy question outa the way first... do you still have tors installed? TORS will do that exact same thing... unplug the tors unit and try again.

I am 99% sure that you can only use your Yamaha card at a Yamaha dealership, and talking with some friends that use them, i think you have to be there in person to use it (no phone orders).

You will want to purchase a clymers manual. Everything you will ever want to know about the banshee is in it with detailed pictures.

good places to ride arizona?
watkins replied to Droppedatbirth's topic in General Banshee Discussion
If you are looking for people to ride with, get some paddles and meet us out at Glamis or Gordons well next season, or if you are brave enough come along on one of our night rides this summer. The dunes are only like a 2 hr drive (i think) from that part of AZ... (takes me longer from SD to get there) trust me you will never regret going to the dunes. -
I had the same exact setup but without the reeds and I was dialed in with stock pilot, needle on the 4th clip (from the blunt end) and 310 on the mains & 2 turns out on the airscrew. I am at sea level as well. Keep in mind that every bike is a little different, but I would start there and see how your plugs look.

I have Alpinestar Tech 6's and for the first few trips it looked like i had a broomstick shoved up my ass when i tried to walk... but after an entire season I cant even notice I am wearing them and hardly ever take them off during a desert trip.

Another ruined day with another seized piston!
watkins replied to Wellsy's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Have you performed a leakdown test yet? If it keeps happening on the same side I would think you have an airleak. Are the carb boots cracks? Base gasket leaking? Crank Seals? Its too late to test now, but when you get it back together spray it down with Starter fluid and see if it starts reving up as you spray. -
A plug chop is a method of checking the jetting of the carbs. When you start slapping on parts jetting needs to be done. Basically you warm the bike up. Then throw new plugs in it and go WOT through all the gears.. when you are topped out in 6th, pull the clutch in and kill the motor and stop. Then take those plugs out, slap the old ones back in and ride home. Then cut the threads off of the ones used for the WOT runs, you are wanting to look at the bottom of the porcelin to see what the smoke ring looks like. You want the smoke ring to be a nice tan.
-
Yes you need to re-jet. With the snorkle off & a K&N try 5 sizes up on the mains and try 2 turns out on the airscrew.
-
You said that your leak down test was not good. If you have an airleak then i would start there.
-
Do a compression test... mine did the same thing when i blew up my pistons from too low of octane in the gas... what elevation are you at? Were you running race gas? I see you are running 18cc domes.. depending on your elevation you could have been having detonation.

Oil smoke, Brand new Top End, other causes?
watkins replied to vtecjun's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
What color is the smoke? Is your coolant level dropping mysteriously? But like as stated before all two strokes smoke, you need to describe the smoke. Are you letting the bike idle for extended periods of time? If you are loading it up then it will smoke pretty bad. -
I have my cylinders at passion right now for the 12-port stroker... seems many are having issues with jetting.. i knew this from the start so.. my question is would it be worth it to take it to the dyno right after assembly to dial in the jetting? I've never been to a dyno before so I dont know how it all works.. do they provide the jets? Do they tell me when I am spot on? I'd rather not be fiddling at home with jets all day long since the nearest riding area is over an hour away it makes it hard to jet bikes in.

I agree with you comments, most airports around here have guard gates and I know my buddies have been unsuccessful getting fuel.. so i have to get it for them since im a pilot and can get out to the pumps... but.. nobody has ever said anything to me while filling up gas jugs.. they just monitor whos coming in and out of the airport. I dont think they really care what the gas is being used for they just dont let average joe out on the tarmac.

Did you drill and tap the new holes for the idle kit?
-
I did but never got paid.. if you want it pm me the offer again and we will deal.
