Whats the best set up for a bansee on sand
BigRed350x replied to bootlife's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Can't really give you any suggestions without knowing whats done to your bike. Give us a list of mods, so we can get an idea of what paddles your bike can handle and what gearing it will like. What dunes are you planning on riding? -
Yeah, try riding at 8500ft elevation. Walden dunes is at 8500 and KP dunes are at 7200ft. Just means we have to build harder running bikes. haha! My dune bikes are up around 180lbs compression at 8000ft, when we go to sand mountain UT or St Anthony we have to swap out domes.
-
No, that's a normal dome. I've got all kinds of domes and they come like that sometimes. They will hold the o-ring. They don't need a groove to hold the o-ring.

The short rod will rev faster and give you a little snappier feeling power. They also put more of a side load on the pistons as they travel up and down. The long-rod will rev a little slower, but you probably won't notice it that much on a banshee. The longer rod will give you a little better torque curve, and reduce the side-load on the pistons. The longer rod will also give you a longer dwell at TDC and BDC which comes into play with whoever does your porting and what you want to do with your bike. It comes down to personal preference and what you want to do with your bike. The general consensus is that the longer rod is the better setup, but you will hear mixed opinions. I've ridden both and the short-rod setups are really fun for playing around, hillshooting, tight spots, etc. The long-rod bikes make great torque for dune bikes.

Thats on meth with bigger carbs, out of frame pipes, more timing, etc. 75hp on pump gas at that elevation is pretty good.

I can understand rhino-lining the frames, but the plastics? Weird. I do the rattle-can bed liner on my frames sometimes for dune bikes and it works good. Thin coating, not heavy, and you can put whatever paint over it you want. It just looks funky on the plastics. ...and I don't think my chrome fancy drag bike is ugly. lol - Jared

Port the cases for 4 mill stock bore?
BigRed350x replied to broncbob's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
It all depends on your whole setup, and how much porting is in the cylinders. But on average you can see 2-4hp from good case porting on just about any bike. -
The girlfriend is building her first banshee this winter and can't make up her mind about what color scheme she wants. She has pink plastics already, but can't decide on frame color. Her choices are gloss black, candy purple, or candy red. I told her the gloss black with pink plastics would look the best. Probably get the hubs and misc engine mount brackets and crap PC'd pink to match the plastics. If anyone has a black/pink banshee can you post pics? Her bike for this year is going to be a stock stroke ported stock cyl banshee. Stock carbs with pods, and FMF gold series pipes, cool head, timing plate, lightened flywheel, +2+1 a-arms, YFZ450 shocks, stock swingarm, works rear shock with a pink spring, shift star mod, pancake bearing, and a tusk clutch. Should be a good bike for the dunes, just need to figure out colors! Thanks guys - Jared

I know your tricks gypsy, you cannot fool me. LOL I know all your secrets now! mwahahaha!

They are basically the same as the hotrods cranks out there, but they are cheaper because they are not trued or welded. Like daj said, when you get it, turn around and send it out to a builder like HJR or Wildcard and have it trued and welded. They both have fast turnaround and will get your crank back to you ready to run in no time.
-
Give brandon at Wildcard Racing a call. His turn around time is a lot less than some of the other sponsors. He's a great guy to deal with and will get you set up right.

Go read my post again. I said " it wasn't that much faster than well set up stock stroke banshees." It WAS faster than most stock strokes out there, but not by much. 3-4 lengths isn't that much on a hill the size of choke. The banshee you described is also just just a basic mod bolt-on banshee. Porting and carbs on that banshee and it would be a lot closer to your yfz, probably passing it. I also said for starters do the +4 timing. I know its going to take more than that, but thats a good starting point. For the $ you dump into the YFZ's you just don't get much back out of them. Especially in the sand. If you have a YFZ and a banshee and spent the same $ on both in engine mods the banshee will be much faster.

Ummm.... both. Your cylinder bore has to match your piston size. Why are you blowing away almost half your bores though? Most times you can fix minor scratches and crap with like .020 overbore. If you go 65mm you're wasting about half the bores you have without the need. Send your cylinders off to a builder and have them inspect the damages and they can tell you what size piston you need to fix the problem. Generally you would buy the pistons first and have the cylinders bored out to match the pistons, with the appropriate piston/cylinder clearance. But you want 64mm pistons for 64mm cylinders and 65mm pistons for 65mm cylinders, etc.

4mm stroker porting vs Spacer plate
BigRed350x replied to Alex29573's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Don't waste your time with the spacer plate. Just get it ported for the stroke. Spacer plates are only used to accomodate longer rods on cylinders that weren't originally set up for the longer rods. On the smaller setups they have pistons with offset wristpins to accomodate the longer rods. -
I wouldn't be too worried about that YFZ. I had a 480 with hotcams, esr intake, hmf pipe, head porting, etc and it wasn't that much faster than well set up stock stroke banshees. I'd get the timing plate for starters

I had a set of ASR +2+1 fully adjustable HD arms on my 4mil duner for 4 years. I had the kevlar heims. They were great arms and held up to everything I ever did with my bike. The squeaking is just from improper maintenance of the heim joints. If you do what ASR tells you to do with them on your regular maintenance schedule they don't squeak. 4 years on mine and they didn't squeak at all. I wouldn't hesitate to go with ASR. Their A-Arms I had were great.

Shearer pipes are one of the highest HP pipes you can get easily around on the net. For the dunes - Shearer, CPI or T5's. Trails - PT's, FMF's, 2into1 Drag racing - OOF shearer, WK, CPI

I'm having my 2-5 full override in my 10mil Twister converted over to an extreme by WCR. I'll let you know how it works once dune season comes around for us here in wyoming.

Vito's Big Bore kits worth the time and $$$?
BigRed350x replied to 02BansheeShooter's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
What are your current mods? You will more than likely see better gains from porting from one of the sponsors, bigger pipes and bigger carbs. Personally, I stay away from vitos. Their stuff is cheap for a reason. In the banshee world you get what you pay for. I've seen a lot of folks broke down at the dunes running cheap vitos parts that have broken or failed. Get a hold of Wildcard Racing or Kevin Herr they can get you pointed in the right direction for what it is you want to do and want out of your bike. - Jared -
Give kim at K&T a call he can tell you whats up with those cylinders. I'm not sure what the max bore is on them, but I've heard of 74 and even 75mm bore Trex cylinders. So either they have a thicker sleeve than yours, or they got theirs bored out and sleeved bigger.

Been Awhile Since i have been around here. Need Help
BigRed350x replied to jrod's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Bring a compression tester and check the compression. Also, ground a spark plug and kick it over and check for spark. If its got good spark and compression and still wont start its probably a jetting issue. If no spark I would either walk away or get some $ taken off the price. Electrical issues can get expensive to chase down. If its low on compression, but kicks over smooth, I'd just get some $ off the price as long as its low on bores. In that case as FAST said its probably just a bore/hone/new top end. Check Spark Check Compression Go through the whole bike, checking the subframe and A-pillar for signs of rollover. Post pics of the bike and what you find with the spark and compression and we can help you out from there. -
