Just pull the head, you'll see what it is...either a piece of the piston, or ring, or some part thats been missing and you never did find it.....
-
I would run it straight C12. JKJK's bro has the same motor w/ CPI's. He has 185psi. You might get away w/ 50/50, but I wouldn't chance it...You have to get race fuel anyways, so you might as well just run it straight...make sure you advance the hell out of your timing...I believe Joe K. is running +10 and also running the dynatek which advances it even more....the cubs are crazy...

Hard to start cold, Impossible when hot

Try synchronizing the carbs, make sure one slide isn't sticking higher than the other or sticking wide open upon starting. What do you consider the stock jetting? sizes? What is your current temp and elevation? You clutch safety switch is disconnected as well? -
Depends on what you have done to the motor.....How high is your compression? If your not over 160psi, then you don't need race fuel..Race fuel only stops the motor from detonating at high compression, it won't give you any more hp...It'll actually slow you down, if you don't advance your timing for it..C12 is just a good quality fuel w/ higher octane levels. If you want a race fuel w/ hp gains, then you have to go w/ Ultimate 4, MR8 or MR9 which are oxygenated fuels..But it is also 14 bucks a gallon....

Sounds to me like it melted. Have you taken the plugs out yet??? If the electrode is gone or melted pretty hard, then you detonated it. (too high compression, need race fuel or better fuel) If you pull the head off, you'll see exactly what is happening..If there is a hole in the piston, its from detonation, if the top of the piston is melted and favoring the exhaust side, then you ran lean or have a clogged jet in the carb which created it to be lean...while you have it apart, make sure your water impeller is working properly... BTW, that looks like Oldsmobile hill in Glamis.....I'll be there in 6 days and counting!!!!!1

Look above the left exhaust, you'll see a little black box w/ a 3-wire plug, UNPLUG IT!!! This is the TORS brain for safety sticking throttle bullshit. You don't need it, if the problem persist, then check to make sure his choke tube is in place. 1/4"x 2" hose between the carbs. If thats good, then check to make sure the slides aren't backwards or swapped. Cutaway in the slides should face the air box. Let us know what happens after that. -
Fresh rebuild and only running on one cyl
Banchetta replied to GOIN FAST AND HAULIN Azz's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Now that you said that, it reminds me of when I put my stroker back in my frame. My builder stuffed a rag in my left exhaust. Took me an hour to figure out why I only got exhaust from one cylinder. Didn't I feel a little sheepish..... :: -
That made no sense at all. Whether you grind some material or cut it...the spring will still get smaller. Did I miss something here?

Look, I gave you all my tips the first time and I'll repost them. Some of us may be coming on strong, but what you don't understand is that a lot of us have been down the SAME road as you. We all spent 550-1600 bucks into a motor that we all THOUGHT was the best builder as well. My builder wins the 300' sand drags in my area almost every weekend....He claimed he could give me awesome low end compared to what I had (stock port, ptr mids, 165psi). Got the shee back and lost ALL my low end. When I ask him, he sais ( well I ported it to what the specs in the books say) I was like "what the fuck!!"....He turned and walked away. Now I badmouth the hell out of him, but I'm the one thats out....A lot of us are pissed because YOU may have been taken like us. We feel for you. Don't take it to heart. We're not attacking you, we are attacking your builder and trying to make you aknowledge that "YES" we do know more than him......We have all blown up banshees and learned from experience, we know what mods work, what don't, why and how.....I've got 5200 post on here. Look at everyone else, we are so much into the shee that we live to talk about them, share info, and better the shee over every quad out there. I've owned 4 shees in 15 years and every once in a while, I'll still learn something....How many shees has your builder owned? He drags, well so didn't my builder. Mike, don't take any of this to heart man. Learn from it, thats what we are all telling you. We are still here to help you out. My list is on top. If you need help, give me a yell, pm me, whatever, I'll share my experiences w/ you and what helped for me. Timing will help across the whole curve, not just the bottom, but it'll make your top stronger as well...Jetting will have an effect. Let us know what size jets your running, carbs, temp, sea level, every mod on your bike, I can help you dial in your jetting to a tee.. we may come on hard, but we play even harder!!!!

Each side is sealed off from one another, so removing only one plug will do nothing...take both plugs out, it'll be alot easier to kick over.
-
Doesn't matter what type of riding. If your shee likes it, it'll like it everywhere....Get EEK needles, everyone w/ the single carb setup is raving about them.....In fact, I switch from CEJ to the DEJ needles on my twin carbs and noticed night and day....Still haven't tried the EEK, wouldn't surprise me if thats my final key that I'm missing....Selling the shee now though, so no use...

Well if you look in my sig, you'll see that I have a 4 mil stroker...I've had ptr mids, ptr highs and currently have shearers on there now...Not to mention that JKJK and Fixitrod both got 4 mils at the same time I did. We all share info during our quest of jetting and mods, so w/ 3 different strokers all ported from different companies and all run different pipes. We all ended up very close to jetting...Pwk's and PJ's......I even did dyno runs w/ mine w/ stock, 28's, 33's and 35's...so ya, I have a pretty good idea...

new banshee owner, dont want to burn down!

Did you take the lid off???? -
I would also check the compression. Low comrpession will make any bike start hard. If not then your jetting could just simply need to be tweaked.

Fresh rebuild and only running on one cyl
Banchetta replied to GOIN FAST AND HAULIN Azz's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
You also might have a stuck float so its flooding out one cylinder....make sure you have fresh plugs as well. -
Agreed, although some people on here have shaved their head w/o any problems, but my buddy shaved his and blew the motor up 3 times in one year from detonation using 93 octane....I'd just get a head from dlnoss..Its not worth the headaches some people will run into. Regardless of compression numbers, shaving a head affects the dome shape.

I've got zero preload Ohlins on my shee w/ dual rates as well...I hooked up w/ some company a few years ago. The guy was awesome, custom built them for me. I had to measure my arms from bolt to bolt w/ the chassis 4" off the ground and measure them w/ the arms fully extended...and did the same for the rear....now thats custom!!! So now I have the yfz450, so I called him up to get a set for the 450. He had a fall out w/ Ohlins and doesn't deal w/ them anymore...so he offered to build a set of Fox air shox for the 450 like what the sleds have.....I thought about it, but I didn't want to be the guinea pig....So I bought a set of Ohlins from another company. They didn't even ask for rider weight...I was like "what the f/ck!" It rides nice, but not like the shee....Biggest problem w/ Ohlins is finding a good builder that knows the shock.
-
you should have a 350 main for those temps. If it starts hard then throw a 27.5 pilot. The reeds will richen the mids. Come summer, I'd step the mains back down to 330's and pilot down to 25. If your running colder than 30 degrees, then you may want to step up to a 360 main.
-
It is your choke jet and it should be on the choke carb.
-
You noticed that I didn't put them in......lol I've tried a few shees w/ them and my 450 had them all around when I bought it. Maybe I just happen to ride all the worst valved ones, I don't know. I sold the ones off my yfz450 and bought ohlins...Night and day. Funny thing is that Duncan is rating them beside Axis, so thats why I didn't comment...They look nice and are well built, but I don't feel the ride quality. But the shocks are only as good as the guy who builds them, so I'll just leave it at that. I'm still waiting to ride a quad w/ them that sucks up the bumps w/o throwing the bike around.

You can get everything at magicracing.com. I've dealt w/ them for 15 years w/ no problems...As for jetting, we'll hook you up. The bansheehq is very knowledgeable. Unlike the sledding forums, there is a ton of info on here, no one is stock and the aftermarket is there....Thats the one thing I hate about sleds, there isn't much aftermarket or knowledge...seems like no one wants to touch their sleds. Everyone just buys a sled and runs them stock....boring!!!!!!!! Your in Canada...What do you think about the ADBoivin suspension??? Have they got the bugs worked out yet? How do they compare to the m10 or m12....I have Ohlins in my Firecat, but my fathers m10 in his polaris is still better. So now I'm thinking about getting either the m12 or adboivin. I ride up in Fort Kent all the time by the Canadian border, so you probably have an idea of the trails...
-
What do you think it tells you??? A cold engine requires more fuel to run. So if it runs good w/ no choke and its cold, especially 0-10 degrees out, then how do you think it'll run when warm and its 60 degrees outside? It'll be rich as hell, it'll spit and sputter like the choke is on until you open it up for a few seconds. Its pretty cold where you are right now, so you'll need a richer suggestion than what I said earlier....162, 45, needle 3rd clip for 50-80 degree weather. 170, 48, needle 4th clip for 0-30 degrees out...
-
Unlike sleds, the atv industry is a little different. I've never seen pipes w/ ceramic coating for the shee. You might have to get them ceramic coated somewhere else. As for the +4, I was referring to the timing. Banshee's like the timing advanced to +4 degrees. You can either get a degree key, or you can get an adjustable stator plate which can be adjusted from -10 to +10 degrees.

I wouldn't listen to your builder anymore. Especially when he suggested not to weld the crank. The banshee is capable of creating a lot of bottom end power. This is where most people are wrong or have never rode a shee w/ bottom end. If a builder can not give you more bottom end than stock, then I wouldn't even talk to him anymore. Seriously..I have met a lot of Hqer's on here across the whole country. Tried and rode a lot of shees built by a lot of different builders, The best low end built shee I've ridden was JKJK's shee. There is almost no powerband hit. Very smooth and pulls very hard at any rpm. Dan from Patriot Racing built it. If I had to do mine all over, he'd be the man. I don't know of any other ported shee that even comes close to his. But most builders claim this and that and after you give them 500 bucks and it does the opposite of what you wanted, It just disappointing. I'm gonna stop whining now...... Anyways, don't gear down. Banshee have the torque to pull. You have to just let them do that, grabbing one gear after another will just slow you down....you'll be spending more time shifting, then accelerating...15/41 is a good gear for a piped shee w/ knobbies
