I Want To Kill Evry Thing Stock Wout Going To Big
boonman replied to German Shepherd's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Nope. You do not want to drop gearing. You run the tallest gearing your bike will pull. You start going with the nonsense you are talking, by dropping gearing to lower top end and increase the low end, you won't. You will spend more time shifting, when you could be pulling in the powerband.... Don't be foolish. If you got some pipes, had the head machined, and lighened up the flywheel, you would smoke many similarly modded bikes. If you are in the dirt, cut the swingarm, so you get more traction. It works. Machining the head, and pipes will increase power, and lightening the flywheel will let the motor get to the power more quickly. Throttle response. You should be able to take a stock 450, if you ride it right, and you will flat out smoke a piped raptor. 450's are no joke. Don't take them bikes too lightly..... They fly...... -
Yep. Don't want to get the squish too narrow. That would cause some serious detonation issues. You don't want that. it will melt a hole in the piston. Not good.... Anyways, I will take off any amount you want, for $40, return shipping included. I use a surface grinder, not a mill. My tolerance is .0001". As perfectly flat as flat can get. I also lighten flywheels, and modify shift stars.

Will My New Boost Bottle Give The Shee Extra Hp?
boonman replied to bansheegirl01's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I have stock porting, and I have tested, Not a dyno test, just my ass dyno. I tried boost bottle, balance tube, ad nothing at all, just plugged with aluminum plugs I made. I found that the plugs made the bike perform morre how I wanted the bike to perform. -
Whatever Happened To The Oldhead Hqer`s?
boonman replied to NYUK's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Nawwwwww, I have been real busy lately. I have been programming machines in the shop, tuning Servo motors, and designing the latest and greatest. And now that that 81 year old guy pulled out, my life has been shit. My truck is driving through the salt and shit now, (not happy about that...) and I have been working my balls off. I am also going to the doctor today to get tested for Rheumatoid arthritis. Not good. Life has been going downhill lately........ getting old sucks..... -
Rolled a Corsica with the cruise at 68 MPH, fell asleep, went up the guardrail, over it, and flipped end over end all the way down the ravine. I believe they counted 8 times, maybe 7. I walked away with only bruises on my chest from the SEATBELT. Seatbelts save lives. End of story....... I lived because of it. And didn't get hardly a scratch on me.....
-
You are completely correct. I ride my bike with a stock rear shock. Perhaps with better absorbers, I wouldn't need my Amp link. I have ridden bikes with and without it, and i can say my bike rides ALOT smoother, and hooks up incredible through anything..... Thats why it is still on it.....

If you use an impact with at least hal a nut of power, you won't have a problem. I holt the flywheel in my one hand, and pull the trigger on the impact for about a second. Spins right off every time. Perhaps you shouldn't try to use an impact gun with only 20 PSI?????
-
I love my amp link. Works goos in trails, MX, TT, XC, anything dirt related. In sand, you don't need it. It whines a little, but it don't bother me.... Here's a pic....

You seee, that's the problem with this whole thing. We all lose sight of the fact that this guy should NOT have been in a car to begin with. After conversing with some locals this weekend at my bar I tend at, I have come to this conclusion. I was told by NUMEROUS waitresses at the local restaurant that they were coming from when I hit them that the gentleman always held out his change in his hand for the waitress to count out for him because he couldn't see the chhange and/or decipher between the different denominations. I also talked to a family member of theirs, who also verified that he couldn't see very well. So, my question is, how do these folks in the same shape as him get into a car legally? If someone my age, or even under 50 in normal health had been driving that car, they would have walked away as well. Just like I did. I am thankful EVERY DAY I wake up that I get to spend it with my wife and son. I don't need an accident to wake me up for that. I kiss them both every day before I leave for work. Before I do anything. I love my family. Nothing will change that. But It is my feeling that something needs to be done to rectify this situation. Had I not had another vehicle, I would be screwed right now. And Benny, the vehicle I was in was the S-10 with the stock 4.3 motor. My other one with the small block is in the garage with the motor out. Awaiting replacement. But, I have come down with some ailments lately, so we'll see what happens......

No skid marks, no time to react. I haven't seen the police report at all yet. I am going to stop down there today.....
-
I tried to stop, but just as i got my foot to the brake, I hit 'em. There was at least one witness. I believe there was more.... We'll see how this all pans out. I am battling with insurance right now, because I do NOT want to be driving my truck... I want at least a rental or somethin....

Well, on Wed. afternoon/evening, at about 6:00 P.M., I was on my way home from work going 35 MPH. Directly in front of me, I mean directly, about 4-5 carr lengths, a red 4-door Buick Century pulls out. I just get my foot to the brake, and I T-boned the vehicle directly between the front and rear wheels as they were attempting to cross my lane to travel in the opposite direction as I was travelling. Turns out that the person I hit is 81 years old. His wife is close to the same age, and was also in the vehicle. Every witness there said as I did that they couldn't believe that such an assinine maneuver was even attempted. He couldn't have seen me coming. Headlights on and everything I had!!!! So, now, the New York State police are holding my car hostage, and waiting for a vehicle accident inspection because the guy is in serious condition and they fear he may die. What I find extremely odd is the fact that NOTHING on the back seat of my S-10 blazer came off the seat. I had a SHITLOAD of change in the "trough" that is near the cupholder, kind of tough to explain, but change constantly falls out going around corners and what not and only a small amount fell out. What I am saying is that it was not a hard impact at all. I would estimate that I was going about 30 when it happened. You can bet your ass that if this fella dies, that there will be one helluva lawsuit against me, for his own negligent actions. my insurance agent already told me that. I was not ticketed, I was allowed to leave the scene with my wife when she got there. They even had mercy Flight, (the helicopter transport unit, like medivac, or whatevrer you have in your area) on the way but called it off and just ambulanced them in. I couldn't belieeve it. I guess elderly folk are not as resilient as others. if it had been someone half his age, I think judging from the damage existing on the vehicles that they would have walked away. The guy had a cut on his right wrist. That was it. And now he's in serious condition. What a friggin week. So, I had to get my friggin tires out of the basement in the snow last night, dig out NOTSMALL, and put the tires on it so I could make it to work. I haven't driven my truck in 3 years in the winter. Now I have to get salt all over it. Guess i'll be re-painting the undercarriage this summer..... This sucks......

I liked the sealing properties and overall quality of the NGK plug cap vs. the factory part. Just a flukey thing. I had a coil go out, and bought a new one. But, from mother Yamaha's stealerships, they don't come with caps. They are purchased seperately.....

It sounds like you have an air leak or something . perhaps ignition problems?? Flames is not good. And don't hold it WOT untill you figure out the problem and fix it.....

Yamabond 4 is the only seaant to use on any case halves. Trust me. It SMOKES :flame: any other sealant available. Unbelievable shit!!!

SOunds like a hardhat area!!! I had a day at work like that once. It was 1/2 hour from the end of the day, and I was working at one of the vertical Bridgeport mills. I wasn't paying particular attention, and I was screwing a jack up to the piece. Well, the machine was still on, and the 3/4" 4-flute end mill was still in there turning about 1200 RPM. It was backed off the piece about .080". My index and middle finger "bumped" into the endmill, and it sucked the both of them inbetween the part and the end mill and spit them out the other side. so, I high tailed it over to the sink, Screaming obscenities I had just invented all along the way. Ambulance ride, and 5.5 hours of surgery later, and my fingers are reattached. So, now you know why I have so many typos in my posts. Kind of tough when your fingers don't work too good......

Sweet!!!! Welcome. And yes, we answer questions here. Well, most of us do!! And yea, pics are a necessity here. -
Lake Erie. I live near the lake as well. Just south of Buffalo. I'm at about 800'. So, I assume you are about the same.... I am still thinking around 320 to start on the main. And a 27.5 pilot...

Alot Of Tranny Fluid In Breathers
boonman replied to BansheeBrian's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Better pull that crank out of there as well. You have to clean the bearings out. Sand is a nasty thing in the lower end of the engine. If you don't, which I'm sure you don't want to, you will be experiencing a lower end failure very soon, which willl take the new top end along with it. Also get some new carb boots. I am also guessing that you may have melted the piston near the exhaust port. if you had a big enough leak to take in sand, It had to be large enough to cause damage to the air/fuel mix on that side...... Either way, if it was my motor, I would pull the whole thing down.... -
I usually measure my pistons just below the ring grooves. BUT, this will not correct for wear. The skirt of the piston is what wears. Ican't figure out why there was that much ring gap. ??? Sounds like alot. Is the bore oblonged at all? What are you measuring with? A micrometer, and some snap guages is the proper tool(s) to be using. Hone it, and get a top end kit if they are stock pistons. Go Wiseco!!!

Then why oh why does EVERY Yamaha banshee come factory equipped with "loaded" plug caps? Could it be to stop interference to the STOCK CDI??? Just curious. I run "R" style plugs in my bike, because I don't run factory caps and as we all know, interference is a bad, bad thing. And because it doesn't cost anything extra to get "R" type plugs, why not run them? What is the deal here? If Stock Yammy ignition systems don't need resistance to cancel noise on their ignition, than why waste the time with a loaded cap? So, Brad, my question to you is, Why does Yamaha run loaded caps on the Banshee from the factory if they don't need them?

I'm reading it that way too. And sweetshee, don't be soo friggin impatient!!! Calm down bro. I noticed your two posts weere like an hour apart. Give it time. I know you're excited. but take your time. now, consider this, when you get the cylinders ported, they will have to be bored. So, if you have the bike ported when the top end is in good shape, (like down the road sort of thing...) you will be essentially wasting a bore.... Now, I would pony up some $$$, and get the thing ported. PM Jim at PassionRE, and see what he can do for you. I am thinking he should be able to come close to that price with porting and a new top end.... $775 isn't exactly a steal. This is of course with you tearing the top end down yourself. and assembling it. Neither of the two is hard. Get Unc's help, and you'll have one friggin flyin bike....
-
You didn't just say that. Did you led??? There goes your crank next time you ride!!!! :flame: Up in smoke. lol!!!!!! That better be some piece of wood!!!! Oh yea, and .030" is a comfy #. You'll like it!!
-
Get them. I love mine. I have no idea what kind they are. I got them off ebay for $35. Fantastic braking performance....
