  1. Reliability will depend on YOU. Tuning being the biggest thing. Run it on the rich side, because you'll be running longer distances at almost full throttle. Also gear it so you don't have to scream it to go the speed you'll cruise at. Yamahaused the same basic design in a street bike. Worn out parts are guaranteed to break sooner than later. Keep up on maintenance.
  2. X-99 on the Clymers Repair manual. Nothing you can't do with that !! Plus it has general repair information not specifically for the Banshee. When you tap the holes make sure they are on the outside/correct side of carbs. And go SLOWLY, half turn in, quarter turn out to clear the chips. I don't recall what to use for cutting oil for aluminum, worst case lube it with candle wax or parafin was.
  3. Best to start with main jet and work down to mid range then idle. Plug chop or read for the main jet. Might still have to tweak it for fine tuning. And unless you're making wholesale changes for whatever reason, only change one thing at a time.
  4. You don't quit riding because you get old, you get old because you quit riding. It also shows that the economy is is improving. My son bought his several years ago for $1200, today same clap trap would be $2500 min. When I first joined here guys were whining they couldn't get asking price so they parted them and still couldn't get what they wanted.
  5. If it was running with stock jetting with those pipes, something else is up. Dirty air filter ?
  6. Set of pipes my son got was plugged with pink insulation, makes no sound.
  7. Also check carbs. Float level and clean pilot, and everything else with them.
  8. Should have a fat blue spark, not lazy yellow.
  9. If you want "FRIENDLY" advice, this may be the wrong place. +4 , unless you really know what you're doing, plus more is harder on crank. IIRC, I thought you needed 513s with a long rod ??
  10. Sure exhaust isn't plugged with mouse nest ? Start ohming the electrical. Ohm boots and coil separately. Clean timing nubs on flywheel, set gap. Refresh all grounds. Try separate ground from engine to coil mount.
  11. Worked on one that would spark few times then quit, bad key switch. Can you test it on a running banshee ? Not being a grammar Nazi, but your post was hard for me to follow.
  12. I've looked at the thread "What Jets are you running" and all that I read used 27.5 at least with any pipe. Ditch the bottle, IT WILL cause the boots to crack and leak = fried engine.
  13. Not bragging, but years ago I read every thread on this subject. 90% said it didn't work, 10% were to proud (or stupid) to admit it. I'm just a carpenter, I could put a Ford starter on a Chebby, but that doesn't mean it will work
  14. Don't sound any better than the Wang cranks from years ago. When you can get a complete kit for less than two Wiseco pistons, if you have half a brain ........ (Fill in the blank)
  15. I would not use tip cleaners, they are mini files. Berrymans carb dip works good . I like to blow compresses air booth ways through any passage. Also pull the main jet holder/emulsion tube, there's little holes on side of that.
  16. Generally air screw starts at 1.5 turns out from lightly seated.? If you have idle screws, they aren't"bone stock" . Setting will depend on idle speed you want.
  17. Search "leak down tester.
  18. Or maybe air leak causing lean condition.
  19. Should have a feeler gauge to check ring end gap. The rest you can do without. I suggest making or buying a leak down tester. As to gearing, if you decide on straight cut gears, they do have a higher ratio (lower number) What's the longest time you run wide open?
  20. Thought someone implied that you were in Australia. Reason I mentioned jetting is because when you run WFO for miles at a time jetting needs to be richer. The majority of piston cooling comes from the fuel mixture under the piston. That's why a piston run on the lean side will have carbon built up under the crown. A good shop has the Pistons on hand before boring so it can be honed to perfect fit.
