  1. What color were the plugs ? If anything there might be small balls of aluminum , if it melted down. Have you removed pipes to look at edge of piston and into cyl? Is coolant still full?
  2. Unless Jennings had a second edition , he recomended NOT going more than 70% of bore for exhaust port width. More isn't always better. I think the ring life would be a lot less than your hour estimate.
  3. Good call on that ,had'nt thought of that. Also make sure lugs on flywheel are clean.
  4. Might want to pull pipes off , look in ex port to see if you melted it down. Even pull plugs first to see if there is any specks of aluminum on them. Closely inspect carb boots for rips or tears/cracks , air leaks. If it wasn't a lean burndown check waterpump for breakage, might have severely overheated it. Welcome to BHQ !!
  5. B8 and BR8 are same heat range, Br has resistor built in to cut radio interferance. 32:1 should be fine ,use good oil. Sputtering might be from a tad rich on main jet. Glad to see you got the clutch figured out.
  6. Personally I see both sides of the coin on this one. Alf is right in defending himself and other site sponsers. It's a tough economy right now, especially trying to start up a business that falls into the luxury end of the scale. Yeah , Alf might be a little overbearing , but I see someone who is doing ALL he can to make a go of it. If he PM'd everone instead of posting , we would have no clue unless someone came on and complained about it. It's also good to know about G.K. , what if I need a gasket for my 72 250 Elsinore?
  7. SURPRIZE !! Get a large drain pan and catch as much as possible, pull drains on cyl. Or you could get an easy drain cover for the next time. Good luck !! Let us know how it goes.
  8. Cushion rings are not necessary.
  9. Hey, we're all silly imperfect humans. Let us know how it goes. BTW, welcome to BHQ !!
  10. Did you soak the plates in oilk before install? Other than that go back through all clutch adjustments, pointer on case, inside cover etc. Also re check clutch assembly. My Clymers manual says tabs on plates start with aligning with arrow on inner hub then next is 60* from first , next another 60*. Arrow on pressure plate aligns with arrow on hub. Hope this helps>
  11. So how would you explain R-1 , R-6 , Hybusa? Plus at a lower state of tune it would last longer before it blew up.
  12. Still haven't messed with mine, did look at them. Looks like they are a double wall design to reduce noise from the pipe (not exhaust note). My thought would be to grind along the seam. Wish I had as much time as ideas , lol .Seeing this thread at least put the idea back to the front of the grey matter.
  13. Only accurate way to check clearance is with a micrometer.
  14. Welcome to BHQ !! A leak from combustion would have different symtoms. I would drain coolant, remove hose from radiator and head. flush rad & engine forwards and reverse with garden hose, also remove drain plugs from bottomside of cyls. Little 10mm bolts ,don't loose copper washer.Might also pull waterpump apart and inspect it good. The grit may be some foundry sand that finally came loose or it could be some built up contaminants from wrong coolant ( tap water) and/or lack of maintainance.I'll put $1 on little chunk of foundry sand from casting process. JMHO, your results may vary.
  15. You fill it with helium , makes it 10 lbs. lighter. Actually I think the others might be right , cause I have NFC !! Your results may vary.
  16. Slo , is .020 normal base gasket? Is the .080 head gasket close to 2mm? Cause that's what my son's shee has. 4mm stroker, long rod , thick ass copper head gasket, forgot what pistons. Also ,are those timings with long rod stroker ?
  17. I can't tell much from pic. How does piston look thru intake? Maj.r scratch? Maybe pull exhaust and inspect ex side of piston , crank engine over and inspect upper cyl.Easier and cheaper than pulling head.
  18. Here you go ! http://bansheehq.com...=1entry556977 Tells you how to disable tors system.
  19. And why would someone completely dissasemble a quad with only three tanks run through it?
  20. Not to argue , I just looked at Vito's super stock piston and says +8 h.p. , but nothing about adding to bottom end. They have a notch/cutaway on the exhaust side to "somewhat" mimic ported exhaust timing. Drawback would be that you couldn't use them if you decided to port cyls later. Also ,why are you going to 65mm? Are you already at 64.75mm ? No sense boring more than necessary to achive clean bore.
  21. Tors is bullshit system that prevents stuck throttle runaway. Personally don't know how to disable , do a search. Also your2000 might have a parking brake safety switch , again search. If that doesn't cure problem then clean carbs one at a time to avoid mixing parts they are different.
  22. Welcome to BHQ !! Are you getting good spark to cyl ? Switch plug wires see if problem switches also. Are your carbs really clean ?
  23. You all have to realize Pasi S. is in Finland , no Autozones ,lol . I would try using Permatex non-hardening gasket sealer especially where rips (cuts) are . I think making a gasket would be last choice . It's not impossible , but it's a pains taking job , I've done it. Second choice would be RVT (silicon) , nice bead, let set little bit , set cover on ,start screws , but dont tighten , let set couple hours , then snug screws. Then when you get new gasket replace it. If this has to go through a translation program I hope you understand it . Let us know how it turns out.
  24. Done polished the numbers right off them , eh ? JK . NFC.
