  1. Yes, stock carbs, I will buy both 25 pilot and 30's and see if it helps. My plugs are always a real dark brown, not like cardboard as it is supposed to be. That's why I'm thinking its probably rich. Also, it was ported by the guy before me, and I had the carbs all torn apart and cleaned. The porting is suspect though.
  2. Hey guys, I have a 1988 Banshee that I bought last year and ended up melting down 15 minutes after I bought it (bad day). I was able to help out the guy who rebuilt it for me and learned a lot, but he isnt currently able to help me work out the bugs in it, It runs great after warming up, but it starts extremely hard. Ive searched the forums and haven't found a guy with a close enough setup to me to copy his jetting, which I think it is. Here are my modifications, Bills Pipes K&N pods Boyesen Reeds A boost bottle My jetting is 320 mains, and 27.5 pilots, and my air/fuel screw is out 1.5 turns. I am located in Saginaw, MI so about 600ft elevation Any know-how or insight is appreciated!
  3. After I rebuilt my banshee i rode about 20 hours in a weekend and it ran amazing, keeping up with everything in the trails......then football started and work got crazy so i didnt have time to ride, so I parked it in the back of the garage, today after about a month I noticed it had a big pool of crank case oil under it, its leaking from the shifter..........which seal is that? I will look but I have been so swamped lately I havent had time.........plus, as I was riding, my right side is burning a lot richer then the left, at first I thought the crankseal but I replaced that when i rebuilt it, not long before, and i oiled it before i put it in. One guy said on side can burn more efficient then the other, and just to jet it down from 320 to 310........this doesnt seem right but is it? if i run it hard for a few minutes it seams to even out, but when i let it idle back down the right side richens up again.
  4. I love my twist throttle, but it depends on where you ride it...........if you ride in the woods and on bumpy trails, hold on tight cause your gonna pin it on accident at least once:shootself: Once you get used to it, youll love it just like these guys said, I'll never go back to a thumb throttle after putting this twist on my banshee:headbang:
  5. it also has the K&N fillters with no airbox.
  6. Hey guys, for mods, I have boyesen reeds, bills pipes, stock silencers, the guy before me did some minor porting and polishing. It has stock heads, pistons are now .075, right now it is jetted at 320(im in michigan,, 70 degree weather.), which when it started sounded a little bit rich, but id rather have it there then getting to lean for a little more performance. It also has a boost bottle, which im looking for a stock tube to replace it. When i was talking about the 110 octane, with the stock compression should actually lower the performance, and help avoid going lean? I thought thats what would happen, if not, i only bought a gallon so it didnt hurt my wallet to bad
  7. Hey guys, A few months back I bought a 88' Banshee, and long story short the guy got the best of me and got me to buy a banshee with a thrown together top end, and a bad crank(being new to the 2stroke engine world, wasnt easy to fool mebanghead..........but after a month of saving money and tearing the entire thing down, and putting it back together with a new crank, and new wiseco top end, its ready to go. Im running 110octane for the break in, to avoid leaning out, and 40:1 Klotz, it started right up after about 10kicks, and after some playing with the carbs, both sides are firing perfect. I have already looked up info on the break in procedure, but Is there any other small details or things to do, on a fresh rebuild to check and make sure is OK, so I dont end up costing myself big time again because of my stupidity. Any Small tips can help. Thanks,
  8. Thanks guys, and sorry about the valves comment, I'm still learning the basics of a 2stroke engine....and dont know any better.
  9. The top end was all redone 2 years ago, according to the guy I bought it from, all the fluids are new because two nights ago when I bought it I replaced them just incase there was a problem in them. I checked the plugs and there isnt any shavings on them, I called the guy and he said it has been sitting in the garage not moved for about 5 months.....other then to show it to me to start it and buy it, and it started first kick from cold, and ran awesome. Possibly seals, valves, and rings rotted?
  10. Hey, I just bought a 88' Banshee from a guy yesterday. At his house, it started first kick, and i rode it for probably 10 minutes with no problems all the way through the gears, up and down the road. Today when i go out let it warm up about 10 mintues, and go for a ride, about 15 minutes of easy riding up the hill, it starts sputtering and about 150yds later, it stalled out. After sitting there for a second trying to think what happened, I tried to kick it and the kickstart was locked........after it cooled down, i was able to kick it again, but didnt try to start it. I am thinking it overheated and locked up? But is there anything I should know? All the fluids are brand new in it.....and I'm running Klotz 40-1.
