  1. Might want to actually make a "map" with what you're wanting to do . How far piston drops for desired ex open vs where port is at that point. Might end up taking 2mm off bottom and 1mm off top (just example numbers). If you haven't yet I highly suggest reading Gorden Jennings ,Bell, and anything else you can find. Not being knowledgeable on the cyls you want to use I would think it has to do with the port size/layout , reed cages , triple ex (?). Keep us informed on this I'm curios. Also what size will this be?
  2. Maybe pull stator cover and check that f-wheel is tite
  3. Call his ass AK , it's 6:30 am now!!
  4. Could also be running tad rich or air cleaner needs service.
  5. So other than new top end all you changed was carbs? Maybe search "mikuni 28" in jetting or repair/mod forum to find close set-up. Far as elevation can't be more than 1000' Be sure you also note air cleaner set-up. Should be able to get close enough for starting point. Each machine is different tho.
  6. Unless you are 100% American Indian (very rare) , you are an imigrant. That being said , my Grandpa got off the boat in1914 , learned ENGLISH , became an AMERICAN citizen. I fail to see how they say ILLEAGALS pay taxes , if they fill out a W-2 they probably put like ten dependants , or are paid 1099. Got to get off my soapbox and get to my REAL American job !! BTW, it's funny that this is in humor section , cause it's NOT FUNNY !!
  7. Didn't realized BEN Dover worked in AK. Maybe shoulda gotten writen estimate to start. I'd want complete breakdown on parts and labor including looking in flat rate book. Plus they might be double dipping, just for numbers , let's say it pays two hrs. to tear engine down, including everything. But the book also says 1/2 hr to remove carb, so they really charge twice for same job. Here in Detroit area I've seen nice Blasers for like 1200 w/fresh top end. Might try striking deal with them, offer like 600. Cause no complete engine even with rebuild is worth 800+ , so it's not like they could sell it for that
  8. Intesting topic. In Gorden Jennings' book at one time AMA allowed 350cc single cyl Kawaskis to compete against 250 two cyl. (both 2 stroke) He showed mathmatically that the 350 couldn't produce as much hp mostly due to the piston/rod weight prevented it from spinning as fast. I would have to think that would hold true with 4 poke.,a 2 cyl would make more power less torque , with relative bore/stroke ratio than single. Plus adding another cyl would probably add at least $1000-1500 to the cost. How many RPM does a YFZ 450 turn? Think of what a 2 stroke could do if you could turn the revs of a Hybusa !! "Course them little slipper pistons will start cocking and rocking with a lot less wear.
  9. Only dumb question is one that is not asked. I've seen quads hauled that way a lot. I would think that as long as you turn gas off. Might loose coolant if cap isn't good , trans fluid depending on vent hose route. Watch for float stick before riding. Persoally have never done it, others will surely give .02$. JMHO, your results may vary.
  10. AK ,what did you pay for those pipes to begine with? How much pressure did you apply to get dents out , I realize you also used heat.
  11. If you don't fix it right you'll end up with the washer welded to the shaft. Thank you previous owner !!
  12. Welcome to BHQ !! Sorry I don't have a specific answer for you , I'm sure someone else will jump in.
  13. I found out the same thing. Use two or three small sraight screwdrivers. Use cuss words in every possible combination , hold your mouth just right , pray a little bit, slowly work them back on. Had I known how hard it was to get them back on I might have made different protector sleeves for B.J. when sandblast. Tie rods only got brush paint ,lol. Just work slowly , take your time ,if frustration gets high , take a break from it. JMHO, your results may vary.
  14. I do belive he refering to the clearance between piston and cylinder. Seems there should be some info with the pistons.
  15. Is that the first time you added to coolant? What did the plug look like? Was it wet ,look like it was washed? Sounding like you need a head gasket.
  16. Overly long shocks will put excess stress on ball joints ,fyi
  17. Short answer , no. Riding thru a little water won't neccesitate a rebuid. Try swapping plug wires ,does it switch sides? Has coolant gone down? What does right plug look like? Has trans oil gone down without a leak? Try it after it has 2-3 days to dry out. Post back.
  18. The 'pin' is what the big end of connecting rod rides on, pressed into two sides of crank, gets welded to prevent separation (like yours) and to keep it from twisting and getting out of phase i.e. not 180* different.
  19. Was out in garage and was looking thru an old Vitos catalog and they listed a 1mm and a 1.5mm clip , so you have to make sure you get correct size.
  20. I woud think bearings would be same, e-mail or call wiseco to check. I would only use pin clips that are made for a particular piston, there again check with wiseco. Also , I NEVER re-use cir clips.
  21. The size that fits fuel petcock and carbs is the same. A good auto parts or good hardware will have fuel line. Be sure the Tee is fuel proof if it's plastic.
  22. Welcome to BHQ Austin. Only part of tors you have to be concerned with is un-plugging tors box left side of frame by gas tank. Someone else may chime in about cable. As for fuel a single line comes down to a tee with a line going to each carb. Hope this helps.
  23. Diagram in Clymers shows rod pushed to one side tight to journal with remaining clearance. Either the crank is seperating or thrust bearings are shot. If there isn't a lot of hours on the crank you 'might' get it pressed back together and welded for reasonable cost. If it needs anything more it's as cheap to buy whole new crank. You have to split cases either way , if it's seperated the pin will be inset from journal (not flush/even). Sorry,
