I've done a few auctions and don't have any trouble there, but just want to get some opinions on how to sell what I've got. I'll post the stuff in the "For Sale" forum here before I use ebay in case someone needs something, here's what I have: 1. '85 RZ350 top & bottom cases, there's a hole in the top case where it threw a chain but it isn't broken into the tranny; so oil can't get out or dirt can't get in-pretty much a cosmetic defect only. Identical to Banshee cases except has drive gear for the tach. 2. '85 RZ350 stator cover, clutch covers (with oil injection pump blockoff plate), stock reed cages, intakes, carbs, shift lever, kickstarter & gear. The reed cages, intakes, and kickstarter look identical to a Banshee's. 3. ?? RZ350 instrument cluster, tach & speedo but I'm keeping the temp gauge...not 100% sure it's even an RZ cluster or if it works or not. The cases and side covers have been painted black, looks like from a spray can. I've got almost everything disassembled and cleaned. Here's the questions: A. Should I go ahead and strip the paint off the cases and clutch cover? Should I go ahead and polish them? Should I smooth out the break in the case (I'll still list it as having chain damage but I know I can make it look decent)? B. Would it be better to include, say the water pump with the clutch cover? How far should I break the stuff down into separate sales (like sell the water pump gear in one sale, impeller in another, etc.)? Or should I combine everything? C. What's a good asking/buy it now price or auction starting price for any or all of this stuff? I'd appreciate any help at all, I'm hoping to be able to sell the RZ stuff I don't need now to help pay for the crank work and topend, put the RZ tranny & crank in my Banshee bottom end and the RZ jugs on top, then when it's running sell the Banshee head, jugs, crank, tranny, stator and CDI. I've got plenty of time to clean, strip and even polish this stuff, just not sure if it would be worth the effort. Help me out my brothas...

Right on Meat! I'm too lazy to register for BT and read the thread but it's still cool. Keep up the great work!

Simple answer: wage slave. Somewhat more elaborate answer: Work for a small, heavy construction company and do a little bit of everything. I do all the parts finding/ordering/shipping/receiving for a fleet of about 125 machines from 763 Bobcats to our 3 new flagship Cat 623G scrapers. We do alot of earthwork, primarily dairies but have done plenty of ponds including HDPE lining, some highway work, excavation, etc. We also sell Valley center pivot irrigation systems, trench & install irrigation pipelines, sell several lines of tractors & implements (Massey-Ferguson, Long, White, Bush Hog, etc.). It's actually 2 sister companies, one does earthwork and pipelines, the other sells machinery and parts. So I do ALL the purchasing for both, point of sale for customers, install & maintain the computers & small LAN, do some repairs on the more "techie" stuff like laser system cabling, CAD design and project estimation, and spend alot of free time online. Was in college for Mechanical engineering but had other obligations, but where I'm at isn't too bad. Relatively low stress, some free time, half decent location, just wish there were more babes coming in instead of the typical farm hand that struggles with English...

Anyone Up For Another Bhq Get Together?
BenBB replied to banshee370's topic in Riding and Events Forum
Limited03, I'm close to TX, in Roswell New Mexico, and I'm going (well close to West Texas). Just found out I'm gonna miss the last two rounds of the local TT points series and an indoor TT in Hobbs ...I'D RATHER BE IN DUMONT! Was watching Huevos 6 and damn those dunes look sweet (it's entitled "Baker, CA"). In the commentary Wes talks about Dumont being his favorite...and the tallest dunes he's been to, second only to Nairobi... -
OK if the stator and pickup coil are within resistance specs, you can either test the coil with an ohmmeter or have a shop bench test it (usually free). Then trace the wiring harness and make sure that all the connectors are tight and no wires have rubbed against the frame and grounded out. Don't worry about the lighting system (voltage regulator, yellow wire from stator, light switch, etc.) for now, concentrate on the ignition system. Double check the key and handlebar kill switch; make sure they're "on" and the connectors are tight. After that, pretty much all that's left is the CDI, and the only way to test it is to swap in a known working one...

Wasn't me, I hate using checks, way prefer money orders...using a check means the wife has a means of tracking expenditures (not good). Sorry to hear that mcaf29 (the losing $40 part, not the getting stupider part).

What Do You Guys Do Besides Riding Your Shee?
BenBB replied to ScreaminShee01's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Work on it. Then go to work and think about what I'm gonna do to it or where I'll ride next. Try and stay in touch with friends and family, play games (xbox, cube) with my son, watch a little tv or a DVD with the wife...might sound pathetic but I'm still relatively sane... And for the record, I ride year round and am a wage slave, I'd love to try sledding or jetskiing but location and income won't accomodate it. My boss is getting into paintball tho, how cool would it be to unload on YOUR boss!? -
OK if it's brand new and you're breaking it in, it's a pretty safe assumption that the compression is allright. I'd make sure the air filter is clean & oiled first, then try adjusting the airscrews in (richer) or out (leaner) to see if you can get it to start easier. Try going in a half turn richer first and see what happens, if it's worse or doesn't make any difference try going leaner...
-
I'd start a little richer, like 320 or 330 mains, 30 pilots, airscrews 1.5 turns out, and leave the needle where it's at now. Should be a safe starting point and you can dial it in from there. Good luck.

Sounds like you're on the right track bigboybanshee, you've got the mains if you need them and a plug chop will tell you where you're at on the mains...just thought I'd say it looks like you got it under control.

What Do You Do At Work When You Have Nothing To Do
BenBB replied to eehsnab2's topic in General Banshee Discussion
The few times I've had enough time to scope the forum and had enough porn, I'll check out: www.atvscene.com www.atvsource.com www.rockymountainatv.com (scrath 'n dent, closeouts, etc.) Sometimes ebay, or off on some tangent (usually use www.dogpile.com for searches) researching stuff... -
I can probably make that, just let me know when it gets closer. I have some pics somewhere but I don't think they are very good. I've talked to some guys that have been to LS also and they liked both; in general they said LS has a ton of people and maybe some bigger hills but Kermit is a larger area. Personally I'd rather not have to worry about hitting a 4-seat rail headon all the time...you can ride for hours in the center and barely see anyone else at Kermit. And if you get lost (yes I have) you can just pick a direction and head that way; eventually you'll either hit one of the two highways that border the dunes or pick up the perimeter trail that runs along the edge of the whole dune area (that trail is a blast). And the people there (mostly Texans) are ALWAYS the coolest, half the time I go by myself and can always hook up with a group there to ride with, I always have a good time and meet some great people. If you get a chance it's worth the trip.

In 3 years I've only replaced my rear axle bearings once. I repacked the fronts about a year ago and just keep the a-arm bushings greased (like after every weekend that I ride I wash then grease it). If you're in alot of mud I would check the rear bearings like spoin39 said, and if/when you have to replace them put a grease zerk on the carrier, and remove the inner bearing seals so grease will get to them. They will last alot longer if you can get grease to them and force any water out....

I agree with rebel, I did suspension on mine first (before pipes even) and I'm happy with the choice. A stock motor, with a K&N and pipes is pretty damn potent, the Banshee's real achilles heel is the substandard suspension. Luckily you can upgrade it, not exactly cheap but aftermarket parts make a world of difference. Exactly what to buy depends on what you're gonna do. For just duning, paddles & just front shocks would be a good idea. For woods front shocks and a steering stabilizer; for MX front shocks, revalved rear, wider axle & a-arms, and steering stabilizer; for TT lower front shocks, swaybar, rear lowering link, wider axle & a-arms; etc. etc. For all-around, I'd put a +2 axle on the top of the list, followed by +2 a-arms and the best shocks you can afford...the difference will be night and day.

Who Can Loan Me A Flywheel Puller
BenBB replied to frocashmoney24's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Let me know if you get in a bind, I can ship it from work at no cost, you'll just be out the return freight. UPS would take at least 4-5 days from here too. BTW I had to do both my RZ and Banshee flywheel last month and neither one of the damn things wanted to break loose. Do yourself a favor and soak that bitch in your favorite flavor of penetrating oil (WD40, lizard piss, whatever) for a few days before you even try to take it off. If the engine is out just turn it up on the right side, remove the nut and soak the center of the flywheel so the juice can work it's way onto the tapered part of the crank. If the motor is still in the frame, get a 2' piece of 2x4, turn the fuel off, and lift the left side of the quad...use the 2x4 to support the right side on one of the frame rails and you'll have the flywheel pointed straight up; same deal soak the piss out of it and it'll be way easier to get off. Oh yeah, when you get a puller don't just torque the f*ck out of it, it's like a pulley remover or bearing remover; you just want it pretty snug, then smack the end of it with a hammer, tighten & repeat. Too much torque and it will strip the fine threads. Sorry if you already knew this shit but just wanted to save you some greif in case you didn't. -
Tt Nationals Houston Texas Reliant Stadium
BenBB replied to TexasQuad's topic in Riding and Events Forum
Somebody mentioned this in the General forum a while back, I dont' think it's a National (I could be wrong), the National TT schedule is posted at www.atvscene.com but they didn't have a schedule for ST that I've seen. I know Brashear, TX will host a National (the last race I think, in September or October), I'll be at that one for sure. You might scope out www.atvsource.como and see if there's something there, I think that's where I saw the Houston race mentioned... If you find out please post it here, if it's this Saturday I can't make it but would like to hear what happens... -

YES! I go to Kermit a few times a year, awesome dunes for this area. I don't know for sure how they compare to Little Sahara, OK because I've never been there, but here's what I know: The dunes are roughly 5 miles by 7 miles of pure sand. The hills aren't huge but there are a few good bowls, lotsa rolling dunes, a couple decent places to drag race, and some awesome trails. There's a paved parking area with covered picnic tables, but no water or toilets. There's no entry fees or regulations. Holiday weekends during the winter have a good turnout, but I was there Thanksgiving and it was nowhere near "too crowded". I'd guess 8-12 rails, maybe 40-50 quads at the most. Best time to go? Whenever you can make it! Let me know if you're headed that way and I'll try to be there, at least for the day (about a 3 hour drive for me to get there). If you need directions or any more info lemme know.
