belly skids work great for rocks but swing arm skids are a joke. I have smacked my disk hard quite a few times it has torn up the pads when it happens. But I just grind down the flared area on the disk and keep using it. My factory skid I tore it off 20 miles into the first race I did and shoved it through the side wall of the tire. Had to ride 30 miles on flat to change it. The aluminum ones would usually get torn off in a race maybe two and were just a waste of money. I have tried different brands and thikneses they usually do more damage to your swingarm and your wallet.

depending on the type of aftermarket a arms you have you may not have to modify the lower part of the shock. since my arms have heims for ball joints they have a more travel than the stock a arms do before they bind. I may not have to compress the shock to get them in, I may have to try in the future.

they make a lowering link for the rear some guys use 300ex front shocks to lower the front. jump into the flat track section on the board plenty of discussions on it

just ordered that o dual exhaust for the banshee hope it has a spark arrestor. also since I just upped the wifes life insurance I ordered a full set of their cross drilled brake lines for her bike

have you tried changing your pilots yet? maybe with your new build you are off some. since you have pwks start it up pull the choke on the right cylinder and see if it starts firing. if it does that pilot is lean, if not you could try a leaner pilot to see if it helps. also have you pulled your plugs after letting it idle was the right side wet or dry?

along the lines of the pickup gap. what about ground are you getting a good ground with that new plate? maybe you have developed a weak spark due to that

maybe your needle and seat are going bad

the trucks and buggies aren`t much to worry about the racers respect each other fairly well. The thing to watch out for is the boobie traps set up by tree huggers and by the mexican fans. They tend to set up man made obstacles sometimes to catch riders and drivers off guard. sometimes its just jumps or mud holes that weren`t there for the prerun. We did a race down by rocky point one part of the track ran under a railroad bridge. The night before the race they bricked off the end of the bridge so somebody would get hurt. The promoter had somebody prerun the coarse that morning and found it. They can`t do that on a 1000 mile course. So yea have a good safe race and I wish I was going some day I will.

are you referring to a stock rod length or actually going shorter than that? stock length rods have proven to be reliable with a stock stroke I will let the stroker guys comment on the rest.

Jetting suggestions with Keihin 35 PWK
desertdeweller replied to Fre530d's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
a long rod doesn`t increase displacement a 4 mil crank will. long rods reduce side loading on the pistons which reduces friction. longer rods also increase dwell time at tdc slightly so the combustion charge has more effect on the piston. but you will get more power from a 4 mil crank than you would just going to a longer rod -
your mix is a little on the fat side you could lean that out some to like 32.1.

I think fast sells a kit for that problem taller adjusters and springs something to that effect. I have read about it before that the regular adjusters aren`t tall enough -
tommey,pods& installing timming
desertdeweller replied to sa3ood_banshee's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
another piece of advice pick up a book for your bike and do some of these mods yourself. swapping pipes and installing pods are a piece of cake. the charge for labor is crazy you could by the tools you need and still save some money. -
Trail riding and fuel consumption?
desertdeweller replied to maxtrax's topic in General Banshee Discussion
when I bought my take ims only made the 5.5. but I guess some companies have smaller ones that will still fit under the stock plastics. so If you don` t like the looks of the large one you could possible go that route. I don`t know how much more riding time they will buy you. -
Trail riding and fuel consumption?
desertdeweller replied to maxtrax's topic in General Banshee Discussion
I have a 5.6 gal tank on mine as well I can get about 90 to 100 miles on it trail riding. desert racing I usually stop around the 50 mile mark + or - depending on the track and where the pits landed on the coarse to be safe with fuel left in the tank. I have thought about trying 3 laps to reduce a pit stop but thought that would be pushing it, I would rather not push the bike in. If you haven`t done a top end in a while you might do a compression test to see if your getting due. I can usually tell with mine I have to start jetting it up and starts going through a lot more fuel when the top end starts going south. May not be the same for your bike, It`s just a charcterisitc I noticed with mine. mods can have a big impact on mileage especially if they are not matched well so that is something to consider as well. -
eerrrr dude take a hit damn your banshee is fast. how fast do you think it will go? I don`t know man my brother said my cousins does like 120 they had a yugo pace it on the road. my bro said mine is way faster errrr back to ya.

How long would it take my topend to blow
desertdeweller replied to shogs's topic in General Banshee Discussion
depends on how bad the cracks are and how long they have been there. the previous owner could have riddn it that way for awhile but may have had it running rich. which could have compensated a little. -
you can just replace the end cap if you want.
-
you might try crankworks in az they do a lot of cranks.

Future of 2-strokes - A Comeback
desertdeweller replied to NitroTate's topic in General Banshee Discussion
there is a lot of new technology coming out for them. the small engine industry has been dealing with this a lot longer than people think. Briggs and straton has had injection available for lawn mowers since like 1972. but it has never been feasible due to the price of the unit. some of the lawn mower and turf industries are buying each other out for the 2 stroke engine technology. husquavarna {spelling} bought out red max for their strato charged 2 stroke technology. They couldn`t afford to develop their own so they bought the other company. stihl has a hybrid 2 four stroke called the four mix. It is basically a four stroke that you have to run premix in and the emissions results are great.it has increadible torque and revs pretty quick. The premix lubes the valves and everything. But the downfall is if you get a leak in the valve cover or any other area it could blow up the engine. that machine has given them enough epa emissions credits to keep selling some of their old equipment for a long time. For those that don`t know the epa gives these companies credits for clean running machines. That allows them to keep selling some of the older machines that don`t meet the emiissions requirements. I really don`t see the 2 strokes coming back as the epa still looks at the oil going being burned along with gas as a factor. 2 strokes still take oil in the transmission. so they look at it like they are using more oil than a 4 stroke does. by the time you put it in the trans and in the fuel for premix, its more than a 4 poke has in the engine. -
cool, you beat me to it.

sorry I will have to see if I can find it again it was on the phoenix craigslist. a bike shop in payson az said they still have some 06 in stock and they were discounted don`t know how much though.
-
for those that are looking to buy new you might check some small town dealers if your looking to buy a new banshee. I don`t know how hard they are to find now but a dealer at one of the small towns here in az said they still have some of the 06`s in stock at discounted prices. I don`t know how much saw it on craigs list. just thought I would throw the idea out to any one looking.

I saw some on ebay the other day for sale it said they were for the stock a arms. you might look into that, it was the first time I have ever seen stock b joints for sale.I don`t konw if they are the same as the j arms or not.

steering stabalizer will help a lot on the long trips. a desert seat is nice also gives you a couple more inches of foam under your keister. But it does make you sit higher so if you don`t like the thought of that you might want to skip it. I have a desert seat plus a taller stem. underbody skid is really nice if your hitting a lot of rocks in washes. Lighter springs in the carbs to help reduce the effort for the throttle, helps reduce fatigue. I also like to run my shocks a tad on the soft side.If you typically don`t see big air stuff or only every great once in awhile. So I soften it up to help eliminate more of the small and medium bumps again to reduce fatigue. Another good thing a camelback, I have mine zip tied to my chest protector a couple of extra loose zip ties on the top shoulder area to run the drink hose. over the top of the sholder to hold it there. Then I have a hole in one of the vent holes of the helmet mouth piece I run the drink tube through that and put the bite valve on the inside. that will hold it inside the helmet so you don`t have to fumble for it. When you want a drink you just push it toward your mouth. But you do kinda look like an alien with the helmet and tube coming out the front. A small assortment of tools bailing wire, zip ties and maybe even a can of fix a flat and some tire plugs in your bag. one more thing a tie down or tow rope of some sort. Put in your bag or tie it on the frame someplace.
