  1. An area we call Devil's Plunge, just outside Al Ain, on the UAE border with Oman. Filmed with POV vio-voce equipment. Check out out 1200km desert trip for a Guinness World Record: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=41018480641
  2. Here's my ride: http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?...amp;hl=prossett
  3. Yeah, some pics - but none that really captured the feel of the ride or the immensity of the terrain. A buddy managed to roll his truck. Got to use the right tool for the job: get a Banshee! I just got to get a helmet cam because this is just amazing.
  4. Just back from an amazing long haul trip in the UAE - 4 cars and 2 quads (my banshee and a new KTM) It was like skiing only the slopes never ended 8) Surprised three gazelles, too! 8) Beautiful big top-of-the-world dunes - the best Al Ain has to offer. We were the first to place tracks on them.
  5. I'll add a few myself now that I've done two long distance desert trips: cover the back of your neck or suffer sunburn leave arms and legs loose - let the suspension do its job don't carry heavy sh!t in a backpack choose the path of least resistance and play when you get to destination
  6. Replace stock tank with 5-gallon expedition tank. I ran 80 miles desert on one tank last weekend. Looks like this:
  7. This should give a clear idea of the scale - wait for the end to see the height! I'll be adding a helmet cam soon, so stay tuned!
  8. OK, trip report in case it's useful for anyone. 130km (80 miles) total, 10 hours riding over 2 days, 4.5 gallons of fuel consumed (14.5 mpg), 4 litres water drank while riding, max speed reached 65 kph - no overheating, no discomfort, no hassles at all! 8) just complete immense freedom!!!
  9. Thanks guys. So that would be 12.5 mpg - sounds about right to everyone? Thanks for the vent hose tip, I can rig that up pretty easily. What happens when the hose fills with gas and it can't vent anymore? Isn't that just like plugging the vents?
  10. This Friday I'm off on a 100-mile trip over sand dunes, from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi in the Emirates. with a convoy of buddies in cars. To reach destination it's 60 miles (it's 60 miles as the crow flies, so make it 100 to follow the terrain and with a little extra built-in) My quad is de-tuned to stock airbox and pipes, and jet down to 190. I will ride conservatively, going for distance. My buddies will carry my gear. I have a 5 gallon tank, plus 2 gallons spare on the back - my question is: Do you reckon I can cover 100 miles on 7 gallons of gas?
  11. Preparing for 102-km as the crow flies one-day trip from Al Ain to Abu Dhabi in the UAE, across the sand dune desert (with convoy of cars to carry fuel, water, etc.), sleep one night there and then back again. Most people tell me I'm insane to do this on a Banshee, but I'm game. I've prepped the bike with engine rebuild and some mods (see http://www.bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=102901) but I can't say I'm there physically nor do I have much quad experience (but plenty desert 4x4 experience). It's not a race, btw, so I can take it easy and stop whenever. I'd appreciate any tips from your experience.
  12. Thanks - looking for steering stabilizer! As for tush fatigue, I have a sheepskin that goes over the seat - brilliant stuff. I'll take a pic for you guys.
  13. LOL - well, just showing you guys what I've got and hoping someone will say Oh, but you should do this or that or that's not gonna help or this would be better, whatever. If not, I know I like seeing pics of what other people have done to their banshees 8) Anything else I should mod for riding dunes long distance? I actually just took off exposed K&N filters and open racing pipes, and reduced the jet to 190.
  14. Looking to cover distance over sand dunes, these are my mods - your comments welcome. http://picasaweb.google.com/prossett/BansheeMods# Duncan Racing powerhead 20L expedition gas tank (5 US gallons twist throttle racing handlebars auto emergency cut-off if rider comes off front gas shocks with external reservoir radiator overflow bottle foot net rear grab handle now trying to install cargo bag... Oh, also the front fenders are cut.
  15. Yeah, terrain - I should have mentioned that... sand dunes. I guess the dangers are more from impact than scraping off skin, and no roost stones in my face, pretty smooth on the kidneys and internal stuff. But there's cresting over and jumps, and landing on the bike is pretty bad, though not as bad as the bike landing on you! Quite possible to topple over, even head over heels. But no trees. I don't do long high jumps (yet! Helmet, definitely, and I've got that.
