Engine builder in Phoenix area?
desertdeweller replied to bansheevirgin's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I have heard that d&m racing does good work but have never dealt with them. halls performance he has been building 2 strokes for about 30 years also haven`t dealt with the either. -
can someone measure the stock ball joint boot the large end? I need to replace the ones on my after market a arms I would like to see if the stockers will fit. The manufacture doesn`t sell just the boot but is more than happy to sell new ball joints for $ 40.00 ea with the boots plus an extra 50.00 ea to press them in. Thanks

Banshee build going baddddddddd

out of curiosity to check your timing put one of your cylinder at tdc and see if your magnet is pretty close to the pick up. that might give you indication if the timing is off mechanically. -

Banshee build going baddddddddd

This is a reach but it seems that you have tried everything else and I didn`t see it mentioned. drain the tank and carbs. try a fresh fuel maybe you got a bad batch some how maybe it got some diesel in it or something. try it from a different source than what you currently have. like I said its a reach -
moose racing sells one I don`t know how good they are though
-
how much did it change your ride height? I know some of it will change beause of the longer swinger? do you have any pics of your bike like that I am really interested in trying this. I would love to have more travel in the rear.
-
they let you run the full 1/4 in tucson? last time I was out at speedworld in surprise they would only let the quads run 1/8 mile. But I think you will need to change the gearing for that maybe 15 or even 16 front
-
with my stock carbs and a 5.6 ims desert tank I could get about 100 miles out of mine play riding. racing I never pushed the gas tank that far and would always refuel about the 60 mile mark, It still had quite of bit of gas in the tank. I just never felt like taking the chance of walking a desert race. my new carbs however 30mm keihin copies really suck it down. They seem to go through twice as much fuel for some reason. It may be possible with a desert tank and a spare someplace to do it. There is company that sells rear grab bars for the banshee that will hold small gas cans. but it seems like when ever you have to depend on a spare tank it will find a way to fall off and get a hole punched in it. But that would be a fun to do

well you might be able to go with a longer shock off a different bike not sure if or what would fit. moving the lower shock mount forward will also change the leverage ratio, in relation to how the swing arm moves the shock. I think that would cause it to soften up even more all though you may gain some height. The lower mounting point on the raptor is different and won`t fit the banshee. I seen a guy who converted his banshee to a no link system it was pretty nice. but he was still in the trial faze of it so I don`t know how it worked out for him. it was actually his first time out on it.
-
your swing arm is the lowest point a lift won`t help you at all for clearance over rocks. But I know what you mean some of the desert races I have run I have ripped new skid plates off on the first lap. I don`t even run them anymore they turned out to be a waiste of money. I smack the disc and sprocket hard sometimes, so far I have only damaged one disk bad enough to replace it.
-
with the shim only being .015 to .020 thats roughly .39mm. maybe the cylinders were overheated and they had the jugs milled. They could have then used the plate to make up the difference. So you may need to replace the cylinders in order restore the propper height.
-
I don`t mean to jack your thread but have a question for the 4 mil guys as well. would the 4 mil be durable and reliable enough to run in desert races?
-
depending on where you ride theymay not accept the modified ones. some forest areas are very strict on it they may have to be stamped on the body. something you might want to consider.
-
another thing to think of its easy to swap cylinders its harder to swap a crank. So if you want more power and might want future mods. you would be better off to put the crank that you want in there first than doing the port work. then in the future if you decide to up grade cylinders and such you already have a solid bottom end.
-
yep give works a call they will help you out, they may even have dealers in your area with springs on hand. Let them know what is happening and how hard you are bottoming. wether you are light bottoming which is fairly typical or bottoming that cause your legs to buckle and how often ie twice per lap 10 times per lap etc. That way it gives them a good idea how much to increase spring rate. They may even recomend you change both primary and secondary.
-
with tripple rates the secondary spring is 2 instead of one with collars in them they each can be different rates. once the spring has the collar loaded it then loads the next spring. those 2 are intended for the smaller bumps. Where as the larger primary spring is to absorb the larger stuff like jumps. So if you don`t increase the spring rate there even with tripples you will still bottom. You may be fine with just a primary spring rate change with out any valving done. as far as rezzies go all they help do is keep the fluid cooler and keep them from fadding. They also increase the fluid capacity. if your doing hard rough motos or desert racing they might help some. but if your bottoming a lot on the first lap it won`t help that.

I have a redneck one on mine cheap and fairly easy to do if you don`t mind a little fab work. It is a fairly stiff one though but I like it a lot had it on there for about 4 years. It is off a vw bug I built a mounting bracket welded to the lower frame between the pipes then made a bracket for the steering stem and bolted it to that. bought one at the local parts store for $30.00. used it for 2 years in desert racing held up very well. A fellow desert racer gave me the idea he had it on his. you have to look real hard to even see the thing.
-
I doubt they would in stock form you would probably end up revalving and respringing those as well. you may just need a stiffer primary spring for you then. You can order springs through works directly. If you have a local suspension shop check with them they may even stock some. they should be set up so you bottom occasionaly but not easily. so you may need to go up a rate or two. I have talked with them several times and were a big help.
-
it may not be the shocks but you well sort of. don`t take it wrong it may be your personal preferances are different from what the company does. even though it is set up to your weight riding style etc. it may not be right for you. some people like a really stiff set up. personaly I don`t I have bad hands tendonitous [sPELLING} in both. I like a very soft front end to help reduce the shock to the handlebars. I have +3 arms on my shee but have the shocks set up for +2 I also tell them a lighter weight. I also run a vw steering stabalizer on mine. It took some fab work for that but it allows me to ride for a lot longer periods. It mounts on the frame in between the pipes up to the steering stem, so you can`t even see the thing unless you look hard. I have had that on there for about 4 years with no problems. So you may just try changing spring rates to change it to your liking and then consider revalve after that.

87 banshee kills at idle
desertdeweller replied to weltmister1234's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
you mentioned it rained pull your stator cover to see if you got moiture in it. If thats ok then you might want to check electrical connections for water in them. you also could try to readjust your idle mixture maybe the weather is affecting that much. -
check the clutch arm screw thats what the problem was with mine. somebody else can probably explain it better than me. mine had backed off the oneder the side cover.

wondering new years in glamis

its primitive camping no hookups. people that don`t like to camp there either don`t like to get dirty or they don`t like the noise at night, some are worried about getting their rvs stuck to. I don`t think I would have a very good time if I had to load and unload a couple of times a day to stay at a hotel. bring your camp trailer relax and have a ball.
