  1. Sounds like an aftermarket high output stator with 2 lighting outputs which requires 2 voltage regulators. You should be able to hook up 1 yellow and the black wire and make your lights work, then tape off the other yellow so it can't short. If neither yellow makes the lights work then it sounds like a bad stator.
  2. The factory key is not very expensive and since you have to pull the flywheel to put in the adjustable plate anyway you should install a straight up key. Just order one when you order the plate and you will be set. You wont have to worry about your key shearing off and damaging other expensive parts.
  3. Yes that is what you want, it is a big upgrade. They last forever versus the factory thingy that wears out in nothing flat.
  4. Actually the oiwner of JD Racing was Jim DUNKEN, Duncan is in Cali, not Hillsboro Oregon.
  5. For starters, it sounds like your jetting is way off. A stroked, ported and pied Banshee needs bigger jets than 270, probably at least a 310 or 320, maybe even bigger than that. What size pilots do you have?
  6. I never heard of this Ronnie guy in all the time I hung around the shop and went riding with Jim, but yes you are right about Louie, he was doing most if not alll of JD's paint work including other customer's bikes. I am not arguing about this Ronnie guy, I am just saying that I never met him in all the time I spent at JD Racing which was considerable.
  7. And the 97 on boxes have the park brake rev limiter that is not on the earlier bikes.
  8. I would not use Pennzoil to keep the dust down in my driveway, let alone put it in an engine.
  9. That is the way the factory Yamaha gaskets are, one part number fits both sides. On one side the sealer is up and on the other side it is down.
  10. If you are talking about the JD Racing that used to be in Hillsboro Oregon, then the only people that did their porting were Jim Dunken or a guy by the name of Chad. They also had a guy named Bill the was pretty good at setting up suspension, and a few different guys that worked the counter and were general teardown and assembly guys. They are long gone, since about 1998 or 1999.They are so old that they never had a website. Jim had a hand in the design of the Toomey T5 pipes, Stuart Toomey met with him to discuss how JD Racing was modifying T3s and incorporated some of those ideas into the T5s. They built some of the fastest bikes around in the 90s, but it was just a side business for Jim. he had a day job and did the porting at night and had other people run the shop during normal business hours. He started having problems finding reliable help to run the shop so he closed it. Louie Swan(Sr.) used to be a customer of his until he started Twister. On occasion I would help out around the shop to get stuff tore down or put together to get it out.Jim was selling Harleys for a while and then he was a salesman at the Motorsport Outlet in Hillsboro the last time I talked to him, he was talking about moving to the Oregon Dunes and opening an independent shop and the last couple of times I was into Motorsports somebody new was sitting at his desk, so he may have moved on.He totally got out of building Banshees. I used to have access to contact him at home, but his number has changed and I can no longer get ahold of him.
  11. Make sure the kick idler gear snap ring and washers are in place and that the idler gear bushing is good. That is what killed my primary drive gears and water pump gear.
  12. It has been said multiple times to stay away from RM Stator and Ricky Stator.
  13. If you have the kill switch wires connected that is the problem, the kill switch grounds the CDI to shut the bike off. The key switch wires are supposed to be connected for it to run.
  14. DO NOT remove your lid without adding a ProFlow kit to hold the filter in place and sealed. It WILL suck dirt in if you don't have a lid or ProFlow adapter.
  15. When I put a K&N 2 into 1 filter setup on the wife's bike I had to up the mains AND pilots also to smooth it out when it came on the powerband.Went to a 27.5 pilot and I don't remember what mains.
  16. Also check that the deck height of both cylinders is equal. If it is not it will not put equal clamping pressure on the gasket.
  17. Chrome looks nicer longer than bare, or painted, or powdercoated pipes. But eventually the chrome will turn blue, or rust, or flake off, and then what do you do? I know of NOBODY that will chrome or rechrome used pipes because of all the carbon or soot inside the pipe contaminates up the chomer's tanks. My recomendation is buy them bare and have them ceramic coated in the color of your choice.
  18. Stock style Banshee head gaskets SHOULD NOT BE REUSED EVER, that isyour problem. They are made to be installed once, if it has been toqued down and gone through a heat cycle you can not reuse it. If it was toqued down and never started, then you can pull it off and put it back on.
  19. For once I agree with you. He is dreaming about all this shit when what he needs to do is get out there and get some expierence. He may find the Banshee does not fit into his "disaster situation".
  20. I have been reading ALL of your threads. I think you want a Banshee because they are one of the fastest bikes around but what you NEED id a 4X4 quad. No 1 bike can do evrything so you are going to have to figure out what is most important to you. What you really should do is buy both a 4X4 with a winch and a Banshe to haul ass. Then you will have bikes that compliment each other.
  21. A Banshee will burn more fuel than a Grizzly because it is a 2 stroke and they burn more fuel than a 4 stroke. I have ridden with a buddy that has a Grizzly 700 and he rode most of the wekend on 1 tank of fuel while I had to fuel up my Banshee every time we came back to camp. Also, fuel injection tends to be better than carbs for fuel economy.
  22. I am currently running 20X10-10 8 paddle Haulers on the stock 10X8 wheels that my 89 Banshee came with(2 years only, 89 & 90). I am going to go with 20X11-10 9 paddle Extremes on the next go around. Since I went back to the stock wheels I have far less problems with leaks or bent wheels. With your setup 8 paddles to fit your wheels should be fine, I ran 8 paddles when I had nothing more than pipes and a cut head and that is what we run on the wife's bike with pipes, a cut head, and bumped timing. If you are just doing general riding with some occasional play racing 9 or 10 inch wheels are fine, if you are a serioud drag racer you will probably want to go with 8 inch wheels. But the bigger wheels give you a more stable ride because there is less sidewall roll, although there is less sidewall to flex on the bumps. Also, you might want to adjust your gearing for the paddles.
  23. Several people on here have mounted the TrailTech Vapor which has a tach built in. I tried one but had problems with the unit doing a full reset if you revved it up too high before the temp came. They replaced it once, after riding it I found the tach was to hard to read out on the trails so when I went back the second time, they gave me a Vector to try instead( I got to keep the Vapor) and also some other goodies. The Vector has no tach but for what I wanted( speedo, temp, and hourmeter) it is perfect and has worked flawlessly.
  24. Junk from RM Stator or Ricky Stator has been bad brand new out of the box.
  25. What brand of stator did you buy? Or is it a used one off of Ebay? You can use an ohmmeter to check both the stator and coil. If both of those check out OK then the likely problem is the CDI box, assuming you don't have any shorted or damaged wires in your harness.
