  1. You are talking about an '85 ATC250R, correct? If it has the stock round-slide carb, get rid of it and buy a PWK. I would not get a PJ like the '86 had. It is OK, but the PWK is much nicer. Most parts are interchangeable with the '86, and aside from the obvious, many Fourtrax parts can be used as well (engine, controls, etc.), especially the '86' & '87. Let us see some pictures! Ahhh, ATC250R.....
  2. This has some information about storing oil: Lubricant Storage, Stability, and Estimated Shelf Life
  3. Ahh, very good. BTW, a big thanks to xXBlessedWithDeathXx for updating the color sheet!
  4. That is the one! Where did you find it? I can't seem to find it on the Yamaha website.
  5. That is a good point..... I noticed from your other thread that you tried the needle in the 3rd groove, are you now back to the 4th groove? I am just wondering if the needle adjustment made a difference with the bogging problem you were having.
  6. Well, can't compete bike to bike, so....have to get it when I can.
  7. No, the engine must have a load on it.
  8. It will still have 70s/80s technology. The kids buying them won't even know how to spell carburetor, never mind work on them. Carburetor.....
  9. Yeah, the red and white is pretty smooth. My favorite is the 50th Anniversary model as well.
  10. That is pretty funny.....
  11. Looks just like the one that was on the Yamaha website (minus the Canadian models) when they had the Banshee tribute webpage last year. I was mad when Yamaha removed it before I could take another look at the colors. The '94-'95 color schemes..... My buddy calls the '96 color scheme the "McDonald's Banshee."
  12. Funny..... Funnier..... Funniest..... :woot:
  13. Not quite the same, but Sand Hill reminds me of the Coral Pink dunes in Southern Utah. Sand Hill looks like a lot of fun. Any of you guys going to the "King of the Hill" event on October 7th?
  14. I have Skat-Trak Edge, 21X12X8- 8 paddle, and Skat-Trak Haulers, 21X12X8- 8 paddle. It is a little more work duning the Haulers, but I will not replace my Edge when they are worn beyond serviceable limits. I much prefer the Haulers.
  15. Ummmm, look at that nice green grass just waiting for some new banshee tire action.....
  16. I agree, if the bike is running pretty good, a normal inspection will be fine. That is new to me, I don't think it would be very practical to pull the front fender and gas tank out in the dunes. I suppose I could bring a flexible borescope and take a looky looky..... .....no, just kidding.
  17. Although I have not worn my uniform for several years now, I have not forgotten and never will forget those who have served, those who are serving, and those who have paid the ultimate price for the freedoms and opportunity this country has to offer. From the bottom of my heart, I humbly thank all of you and your families for your sacrifice and service to the United States of America.
  18. The TORS is the Throttle OverRide System. The TORS consists of a switch in the throttle housing, a switch inside each of the blocks on top of the carbs, and a black box on the frame above the left cylinder. The TORS is supposed to detect a stuck throttle condition and cut power to the engine. I would say that for most people, most of the time, the TORS works fine. However, it is possible for the TORS system to malfunction and cause problems.
  19. The floats are inside the carburetors. Remove the carbs, turn them upside-down, and remove the float bowls (cross-tip screws). Each carb has one float and one float contains two small black plastic drums connected by a small metal arm. The arm contains the adjustment tab. Remove the main jet ring. Hold the carb so that the float arm just contacts the fuel valve needle. Measure the distance from the float bowl mating surface (without the gasket) and the top of the float. The stock specifications are 20-22mm. Use the metal tab to adjust the float level. Increasing the float height, distance between the mating surface and the top of the float, lowers the fuel level (the floats will be lower in the bowl when the float height is raised).
  20. Here is one from the Keihin website. I think this one is easy to read. It is for 34-39mm PWK and PJ, but it should work for his 33 PWK needles as well, correct? Jet Needles
  21. So, basically you have the whole Toomey TR6 modified airbox pipe kit. I am not a jetting genius, but it sounds to me like the needle needs adjustment. Adjusting the needle has also been mentioned by others, and it is easy to do. I would try that at least. I took the time to do a plug chop, and my banshee runs strong and is quite fast for what it is...
  22. I think your friend is drinking the jet fuel and putting the Kool-Aid in his fuel tank. If your friend thinks jet fuel and aviation fuel are the same, he or she is wrong. Jet A, A-1, and JP-8 are kerosine based while Jet B and JP-4 are a blend of gasoline and kerosine. It's not gonna happen.....
  23. You did not mention anything about what type of air filter you are running. Does that mean you have the airbox, stock filter, and snorkel installed? With performance exhaust systems, that engine needs to breath! If your intake is completely stock, you may be rich on the main and the needle. Clean your carbs real good, check the float level, and then check your jetting with a good old fashioned plug chop. It will tell you everything you need to know. As mentioned above, start with the mains, then needle, then airscrew and pilot. Once the jetting is right, it is much easier to further investigate problems the correct jetting did not solve. How Carburetors Work What Is Jetting Troubleshooting Your Jetting Issues Plug Chop No boring necessary for this problem.....
  24. I would not worry about it, all three (RMATV, Toomey, and Vito's) kits look like they have the same caps, adjustment screws, cable, and idle screws. The Toomey kit I have looks exactly the same as the Motion Pro. As long as the tap is a 6mm X 0.75 and the drill bit is a #6, you will be fine (and I am sure it is). I do not know, but I would not be surprised if Motion Pro supplies Toomey and Vito's with the caps, adjustment screws, idle screws, and the cable. So, you will be just fine with the one you ordered.....
