  1. HAHAH, I pulled my top end in the Silver Lake parking lot!!!! I break more stuff there than anywhere else combined. On the 4th of July a bunch of us went up there for a 3 day weekend. I shattered my clutch in the first 3 hours of riding. Totally shredded it. Clutch disc pieces ended up in the tranny gears. Had to wait 2 full days to get it home to do a quality rebuild. Took some NICE pics there though. Heck, check em out. If you where there, I got you, I almost guarantee it. All I did was take pics and fry in the sun. Silver Lake Trips pics
  2. Can you pull in the clutch? Could be a lot of things. Could be broken clutch disc has lodged a piece in the shift shaft. Could be a bend shift fork or shift shaft. Could be a loose bolt on the shift cam. A LOT of things can cause it to stick in gear. If the clutch wont pull in, check the shaft that goes from then shifter arm to the shift rod inside the output shaft. I had mine seize up due to a pretty poor design if you ask me. I'm working on something that some people here might be intersted in.....no more clutch pushrod seize. We'll see. Let us know what you find, everyone here is always happy to lend a bit of advice. (Wrong or right, lol)
  3. Fuel/Oil mixture is one of those topics on here that gets everyones 2-cents. I ran Yamalube 2R at 32:1 when I first bought my Shee. The guy I bought it from ran that and said it did great. I checked my compression later and it was at like 105 lbs. I did a rebuild and switched to AmsOil Saber. It is proven (whatever) for mixes at 100:1. I run mine at 60:1-70:1 depending on the weather (beats rejetting for temp changes) and since my rebuild I have gained 2lbs of compression after 20 hours of run time. I believe it is around 140 right now at stock dome. Oil mixture is 50% science, 50% preference since no one can come up with a solid, set in stone statement otherwise. I just know I get about 40% more oil mixture for my money by using Saber.
  4. I thought I read in my manual that it was 81 pounds. Maybe that was with the carbs and oil...dunno.
  5. Sounds to me like this is a car engine guy thats just coming into quads. You don't bore over unless you have to. Your typical car guy will overbore, say a SBC 350, to gain a few ponies but it really doesn't do a real noticeable difference in a 2-stroke 350 CC engine. Your power lies in your stroke and your port timing. To over bore on a 2-stroke more than you need to is like a cat with nine lives shooting himself 7 times just for the hell of it. So to answer your carb question. You are fine with stock carbs because you shouldn't be boring +2mm in a single shot. Unless someone dumped a pocket full of BB's in your intake while it was running, that might be a reason. My shee is a 370, stock carbs, they aren't the best out there but they are decent. If I had to go bigger I'd go with no larger than 30mm's myself but I am looking for some 28pwks. If you look hard enough, you can find better carbs that were stock on other bikes to fit the Banshee. Just FYI, a 79-83 (think thats the right year) YZ-250 used a carb boot that fits the Shee and will hold a 28mm Keihin.
  6. You can't use them without ruining them. Look for some T5's and complete the set. The Toomey silencers/headers have a different linking location that stock pipes. FMF's are use able with stock components but Toomey is not. You WILL gain a little bit from using them if you can somehow mount them up unlike what other people say. Any time you don't have to blow through baffles and you can strip weight, you will benefit. It wont be huge though.
  7. Ok guys, I need a few options here. I'm thinking about getting some port work done on the Shee but its already got 80 over bore on it. Now I know that with that as it is, Wiseco only makes a .100 over piston so that leaves me with one more bore providing I don't really screw somethign up and it needs more than .020 to clean up. What are my options and how do they stack up economically? Port and forget about it? Resleeve and port? Big bore sleeve and port? I'm about as broke as it gets but I can scrounge enough to have some work done but I can't be like some of these guys and say "screw it, buy a Cheetah" Can I port it then later resleeve it and just match the sleeves up to the cylinder ports? I have also heard of some people over boring Banshee cylinders and putting in Blaster standard (heard of big bores too) sleeves and using Blaster pistons? How about that. I wouldn't mind having a 400cc Shee (480cc on b.bs)and still being able to use over the counter parts in case of problems. Do-able?
  8. Do some mixing... buy some 118 and mix it with the 92, 93, 94 (whatever it is in your area) Thats about the most cost efficient way to get the correct octane rating. Remember, too much octane isn't a bad thing, but too little is VERY bad so if you mix, remember to err on the side of caution.
  9. If you are looking to boost your compression then why not. That is the main purpose behind the 'cool heads' manufactured by the larger companies. The 2 main differences is you can have interchangeable domes (change compression) and a better cooling effect. If you are only going to be upping your compression a little then I wouldn't even think twice about it. Heck, I'd go that route first, save yourself $250. Oh.....and then it LOOKS stock too. Both ways have their upsides, but if its free....go for it, you won't really hurt anything unless he is a horrible machinist.
  10. Those triples would absolutely smoke a Busa turboed. You might be lucky to get 325 hp, 275 is common (although 500+ has been done with space to work with) out of that engine and it weighs in at quite a bit more. I don't know the exact number but my 600cc in my F3 weighs in at 131 lbs wet. Double the displacement and obviously it grows in mass. We'll say just for arguements sake, 200 lbs. Add the turbo and all the piping and exhaust and you'll be lucky to stay under 235 pds. Now a simple bit of power/weight ratio is calculated. The 'twister' weighs in at just over 110 lbs I believe (stock shee is ~80). It claims an output of 215hp. Add the pipes and other little things, put it at 125 lbs. now.... 215hp/125lbs = 1.75 hp/lb 325hp/235lbs = 1.4 hp/lb Now I am being very liberal with the output of the Busa engine, I think around high 200's, low 300's is fairly common with turbos. 265-270 seems to be the number I am seeing most often. And obviously those numbers aren't exactly. Now if you REALLY wanted to do something wild..... V8 Busa Personally I'd go with the twister. But if I had 13.5K to PLAY with I know I could find better things to play with. Like two new quads instead of just an engine.
  11. Banshees are very tricky to wheelie. Your pipes make it even tougher. I have T5's so the high end hits hard when it hits. Guys with FMF's seem to be able to control it a little better. On a 4-stroke I can ride til I run out of room. My buddy can ride past that. The guy is a wizard. He rides trails in wheelies, turning and all. We go to the Silver Lake dunes and we do a little stunt contest out in the flats. He'll be pulling no-handers, high-chairs, backwards, stalls, 12 o'clocks and walking them out. We both see how far across the hills we can ride wheelies. Neither of us can ride one controlled over hte first (steepest) hill but after than we can both run the entire distance unless we hit a ledge or something. I can do a few things on my Banshee but its to unpredictable. We stunt the 4-strokes all the time. We've all had our share of spills trying to wheelie a Shee, I've never wrecked a 4-stroke stunting but this is what I did showing off on my Shee for some people. It really messed some stuff up. I 12 o'clocked a wheelie in 3rd or 4th (cant remember, it was fast) and fell off the back. My right foot got wedged in between the brake lever and the twist throttle and it pegged full. It dragged me about 40-50 feet through hard pack dirt and ditched me. It laid down on 4 wheels and took off like a bullet. My friend tried to catch it on his 400ex but that was never gonna happen. Especially without me on it. And what is he gonna do if he catches it? "Hey! Stop!" Probably not. Amazing how fast it is without a rider . It hit a trail edge that had a burm build up and launched about 20' in the air, hit a tree and landed upside down. Ended up bending the lower A-arm, J-arm, rim, handle bars, brake lever, broke a tie rod, bent the shock and bent my T5 silencers. Rough show boating fellas The NEXT DAY I bought a kill-switch tether. Would have saved me a lot of anguish if I'd done that earlier. The quad got a lot of need attetion during that wreck fix. As you can see some of the stuff was kinda botched. Oh...I was fine other than some drag marks, I just told peolpe my ol' lady was a mean one.
  12. Everyone has stories about being glad they had their helmet on. About 10 yrs ago I was puttin' through the woods with my dad and little bro on our quads. Back then I was sportin that Bad Mo'fo of a Moto-4. We would only do about 10-15 mph and stop about every 150 yds. I got sick of taking my helmet off and restrapping it every 2-3 minutes. My pops PREACHES helmet safety on anything EXCEPT bicycles (thats just dumb). Anyway, I decide I am not gonna wear mine, he flips out and say we aren't goin another 2 feet until I put it on and strap it. I get all pissed off (as a 14yr old know-it-all would) and go to pass my lil bro who jumped in front of me during the ordeal. I went off the trail doing about 25-30mph and hit a 2" around tree stump on my tire and it flipped me around sideways and I flew over the bars. I smacked my melon on another tree and spun a 360 in mid air, landed in the middle of the trail as my little brother slid up to me. His front tire butted up against my helmet. It saved me TWICE in that wreck alone. I'd definitely have splattered brain matter in quite a few places in my days since then. You won't find me riding without a helmet very often now. Although I won't say it doesnt happen. But if I'm on the Shee....the helmet is ON!
  13. Sorry man but your prices are a bit steep. A coil is only about $10-15, you can't give the exhaust, TORS or E-brake away (seriously). As for the other stuff, they are all items that wear significantly. You need to include good pics. The crank, reeds, impeller, sprocket, bars (bends?), and head (pitting?) all need very good pics. Not tryin to dog on ya, but you might need to re-evaluate that.
  14. Who would trade a Yamy for a Suki?....I feel the need to slam on GSX-R's but I wont. I'll stick to Honda rockets and Yamy quads.
  15. How much for the bars, whees/tires and the pipes.
  16. Hey, if you haven't gotten that airbox lid yet let me know. I'll get one out to ya ASAP. ~$8-10 shipped from Paypal. jspenrod82@charter.net hit it up
  17. Guys....I know "its wrong to steal from the internet" but 3-7 are easily acquired from share programs.
  18. I had mine stolen about 2 months ago. Or kinda stolen anyway. The little bastards got it to the end of my 400ft driveway and tried to start it without pluggin in the killswitch tether. I just happened to be on my way out to leave for work and and heard something that sounded like the neighbor messing with an old 4-stroke tryin to pull a truck or something "get it hooked up, LETS GO!" I never even thought about it. I get to the end of the driveway and see two kids hooking a Banshee up to a Bayou and tryin to pull it.....as I think to myself "hey, thats a Banshee, wonder what they messed up, I'll stop and give em a hand, I can fix anything on that thing.......wait........thats MY BANSHEE!!!" I mashed the throttle and tried to run em over as they tried to run when they saw me. The chain hooked to mine broke and they tried to turn aroud. I jumped outta my truck, jumped on the back of a the quad and started beatin heads. They managed to tos me after about 250-300 yds. I hit pavement at about 40-45mph and fell between the front and rear tires and was run over as I was holding on to one kids hair. I yanked him off but by the time I stopped rolling he was back on the quad and they took off. I remembered seeing the quad before, called the police as my dad took off into the neighboring subdivision and found some kid that saw them go by. We all met at the same house at the same time. Jailbait........ they haven't gone to trial yet and I found out they were only 15 so they won't get jack. Looks like I'm gonna have to be judge and jury on this one, which I have absolutely no problem with. I later heard that the little bastards told all their friends at school, now they are gonna go show all their friends their broken faces. Don't worry guys, for all of you that have had your stuff yanked, I'll give em a few for ya.
  19. OK guys, Im not gonna claim to be the authority on wheelies but take it from a guy who rides rockets with stunt crews and nut cases, 80mph wheelies are possible to "pull up". I see guys do it on bikes at 150-175mph in 6th where they have very little power to pull up. The method used is leaning over the bars, tap the front brake to preload the suspension then pull back, let off the brake and pull the throttle. You dont have to pull the clutch but it can be done if you need that extra oomff. Im not a wheelie god but I can do alright, I can do pull up 4th gear wheelies in sand and ride them for a while but the power band is hard to predict for balancing on my Shee with T5's. Now on a 4-joke I can ride them all day long as far as the eye can see. My friends are like gods on them and do crotch rocket stunts in 5th gear stand ups on 400ex's adn 450r's. They wont ride my Shee to see what they can do though (scared, seriously) so I don't know about 80mph wheelies in person. But with enough mods and hella skill, I think it could be done. Stock....? not even close. Stock only hits low 70's, and surely won't push a sail at 80, on 2 wheels. As for the KX500, it WILL do over 100mph, my friend has one and I know personally that it WILL go over 100mph. This specific one was clocked at 106 although I am not sure what the rear sprocket is, I know it is aftermarket though (anodized purple). Hell, it'll 12 o'clock at 80mph on concrete if you mash the throttle, my friend has the scars on his back to prove it . Matt.....still looking for a KX? My friend is selling his, he is only about 140lbs and it is just WAY WAY too much bike for him, he won't ride it, it scares me too and I am 185lbs and not used to a bike that big. He is looking for a good 125, maybe a 250 instead. Email me and I'll give ya the details, its a good deal. Blue Duece- I have a few friends that would be happy to sign your bible. I might be able to get ahold of the guy atht holds the world record for longest "stoppie" (about 1/4 mile). These guys pull 1/4+mile coasters (balanced wheelie, clutch pulled in) all the time. Ever held onto the front bumper with both hands and rolled out a wheelie on a 400ex? Ya.....they're good. Ok....I'm done, I've said my say.
  20. I'll second that...but I'm in no hurry. Its close to winter now, only thing left for preparation for a while is ice-drags. I guess if he wants his name on my ride, he'll have to get on the ball.
  21. I'll be posting some pics soon and a video I have compiled. We JUST finished it and took it to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes for a sand test run. We didn't have the appropriate paddles (21" geckos) but OH MY GOD it is fast. This quad was built just for experience and we will be building 2 more this winter. We are considering selling this one once it is completely finished. It still needs gauges, an air shifter, paddles, plastics (or a substitute diamond plated aluminum) and an aftermarket extended swingarm. We extended the stocker and expect to shave off nearly 30 lbs with a good chromoly arm. Even with the small paddles that NEVER hooked up, I estimate it was running mid 4's in the 300' drags on somewhat heavy sand. A good set of paddles (25-27" mini-buggy paddles) will easily put it in the very low 4's, high 3's are more than possible and I am fully expecting that. Out of the hole it pulled just about the same as a mildly modified Banshee. I ran mine and another against it and both pulled out of the hole right with it until about mid 3rd gear (2nd launch) then the rocket was gone. Once we can get a good hook under it, it will take off like a bullet.
  22. I know a guy who has a full set. I could ask him what he wants for them. They are the black finish. I also have a set of Sparky's (Toomey specific) and a kinda beat up hush kit also. Lemme know what your price range is and I can ask him.
  23. DO IT! I just finished an 87 frame with a CBR 600F3 engine. It really isnt THAT much work. If you cut the frame just above where the seat mounts on the tab and extend it upward about 6" (or whatever you see fit) then extend about 9" in the center....you can figure it out. Its really not as hard as it looks. Just take your time and plan TWICE.....can't say that enough.
