running no silencers with inframes?
80overShee replied to daryn c's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I had my silencers come off on my T5's on a ride once. LOUD AS HELL!!! I had to ride back to camp on a dirt road. I will say the engine revved higher but it didn't have the power it had with the silencers on. It wasn't much difference but it was enough to notice. -
You bought a KDX80 for $30 or the seat?!?!

seized up motor? locked in 5th gear?
80overShee replied to zyrockdaddy's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Probably not the case here. Nearly impossible for part of the piston to end up in the transmission. If it did, that whole engine is pretty much junk (the cases at least). I doubt thats the problem Could be a seized piston, could be a seized transmission. More than likely it is a seized piston. Kinda need to know whether or not you could roll it after disengaging the clutch. First order of business I would go for is pull clutch cover and make sure everythign is in order. Probably not where you are going to find your problem but definitely the easiest place to start. Next is to pull the head and check the pistons. If you can't see an obvious cause, pull the jugs and check the pistons, rings, jugs, crank and rods. Make sure everything rotates freely (with clutch disengaged). If you are still stumped then its time to split the cases to get to the tranny. If you are totally freaked by this, have someone give you a hand. It really isn't all that difficult, make sure you have a Clymers though, it will walk you through everything. -
Make it fair? You mean give him a 2-3 length head start. That might 'make it fair' but still.....I don't think so. Maybe if the Shee is stock. Piped and other mods...you better give him more. My mods are listed below and I can take my buddies YZ250 that is piped. Makes him mad as hell. "Im gettin rid this thing and getting a Banshee! Want to buy a bike?" haha

That 'orangish-brown' stuff is anti-freeze but DEFINITELY not the stuff you want to be running. It is called "Dex- Cool" and is made for newer model GM vehicles (not sure of others) and is supposed to cool a little better than conventional antifreeze. Well the truth is out...its GARBAGE, it eats your seals, smokes your bearings and still only cools the same as the 'green stuff'. Personally, I run distilled/anti-freeze at 50/50 but in the crotch rocket quad my friend runs we run Engine Ice and you definitely notice a difference in the temp gauge. I'll be switching to Engine Ice soon enough but at $20 a half gallon its a bit pricey if you need to break the engine down for anything. Guess I'll have to invest in a water pump cover with a drain plug.

AHHAHA that reminds me of something a friend said about his Banshee and changing his gearing. " "Well, I dropped the front sprocket 1 tooth so now I will have ot rejet right? " -"why would you have to rejet for a gearing change" "Because I wil have more low end now, I have to go bigger on the pilot and needle to make sure it doesnt lean out the low end" I still laugh at him, everytime someone makes a comment about changing gearing, we make the 'rejet' comment.

If you are going to be riding in Michigan at any of the state parks you will NEED a spark arrestor setup. If you don't have a freshly packed silencer, you will need to do that also to get into Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Toomies are loud but they sound AWESOME I have a set of Toomey specific spark arrestors that I am going to be listing on Ebay tomorrow unless you are interested. They are the type that replace the stock end-cap and are held on by the stock snap ring. They are referred to as Cobras I believe.... Here are some pics of what they look like on the quad....they are pretty dirty here but they are nice and shiny now. Haven't taken the pics for posting yet. (you can see why I ditched the Toomey silencers in the second pic) First pic of spark arrestors Second pic Now these are NOT the type that clamp on with a hose-clamp. They do NOT fall off so there is not worry about losing $75 because you have to go and buy a new Sparkie from the store because yours disappeared somewhere on the trail and you didnt notice. I can't tell you how many of those things I have picked up at the dunes.... These are also pretty hard to come by. I'll also throw in an extra silencer core (2 if I can find the other one), set of extra end caps, 2 snap rings and any left over packing I have. I modified my exhaust so I use a baffled crotch rocket exhuast so I dont need any of it. PM me or email me if you are interested [email protected]

WHere does a "Snap-Off" guy get off ripping on Craftsman? Thats like blasphemy

Thats it! CAM 2! I never would have thought of that in a million years. What is the octane of Cam 2?
-
Ditto!! Did the same thing...well, not sure if I did it or it was like that when I bought it . I was an unwitting idiot when I first bought my Shee...just said "wow, its fast, I'll take it!" I thumped a tree hard riding tight trails and bent a J-arm (Junk arm) and got to looking deeper and noticed the whole frame was kinked over about 1/2 inch. Swapped out the whole frame, probably could have straightened it but J-arm frames are a dime a dozen. If you don't fix it, better give the HQ'ers first dibs.

And yet they used the same restrictive pipes for the entire design and the same horrific TORS design. Just because it was used for years doesn't mean it was "good enough". Almost every vehicle manufacturer still uses a paper air filter in every vehicle even though it is proven that a reuseable, washable fabric style (K&N, Airaid..etc) improve power AND fuel mileage. But stock must be good because they've used them for years right? There is a reason aftermarket companies are in business...

Why on earth would I need to run 100% Turbo Blue when I know that 94 oct is close but not exactly sure if its enough (was thinking I need 96-98 or so). Turbo Blue is 112 oct, we have something else at a Shell station about 20 miles away, cant remember the name of it but it is ~106 oct. Can't remember the name but I think its "______ red" Apparently it is actually red, but I've never seen it. Its about a dollar a gallon cheaper also. Last I checked Blue was at $5.25 a gallon $$$$$$$$$

Ok, I am going to have my stock head milled down to add a little compression. How much can I take off before I need to do something about the squish band? Someone told me you can just double the gaskets if you want to mill more but that seems counterproductive. I think I've heard you can mill .035" off and still be fine on squish....is that right? What is the equivalent dome size for this? Can I get away with running 94 Octane on +4 timing with that or will I need to mix a little Turbo Blue in? (readily available)

Once you get used to it, you'll never want to go back. The ONLY thing I have trouble with using it for now is doing controlled wheelies. I can kinda do them on a friends that has thumb throttle and Fatties but mine with T5's and twist just isnt smooth enough in the power band to walk a wheelie. Now on a 4-poke I can do anything, IMO thats all they are good for.
-
Most likely candidate right there!!! I haven't seen a quad yet that didnt have serious spark problems that still had TORS hooked up.
-
I'll second that! Also....its a long shot but if you check all the wiring and test all the electrical with a meter and finds its all ok then check the stator pick up. I actually had my pickup coil break right off of my stator plate before. Don't really know how it happened, didn't think it was that common until I called my parts guy to see if he had a few stators and pickup coils laying around..."yep, but no plates, all of them are broken where the pickup screws on" I think THIS might be the reason the aftermarket plates (Ricky Stator exception) are made from Billet aluminum. I've heard people say "why make it billet and polished, you don't see it? Its not under stress, why make it so strong?" I'm a believer. Three hours from home on a riding trip at the dunes and your coil grenades.....I'm a believer

Second that......but dont forget to sit over the tank or the only thing going in reverse is your @$$ off the seat as it claws for the sky.

Symptoms of twisted crank?
80overShee replied to Master of Faster's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
Ya, I was about to say. That doesnt sound like anything mechanical, sounds like a air flow problem. My first guess was bad needle jetting but since you have it figured out. -
You sound exactly like everyone that has ever sat on my Banshee "F*** that twist throttle bs!" I love it, everyone else absolutely hates it, kinda get me out of anyone asking to ride it all the time. Everyone that has ever tried to ride it has 12'o'clocked it thinking they could just give it half throttle and go. The quad claws for the sky and they aren't ready for it, so they crouch down and move their wrist all at the same time and WHAM it stands straight on end. I ALWAYS put the kill-tether on anyone that hasn't ridden it before. Its pretty humorous to watch.

I was ready to be like "WTF!?! you've gotta be kidding"

Its a huge difference but 7 paddle wont be enough, 8 is better, I'd go for 9
