i got some news on me stolen yfz450....
blowit replied to tithead's topic in General Banshee Discussion
You need to contact Ebay and ask what it takes to get those back files. You may need to get the PD involved to get access. don't let Egay tell they do not have the files, they DO. Now if you do not have any document that can prove you as the owner, you are likely hosed. Many times a digital camera works wonders. VIN always needs recorded. Many times though if there was an absolutely specific detail about a bike that no one could know, I have need to PD confiscate goods till a judge decides. With a VIN, many times, game over for the guy at the end. B -

I think you can search ended items up to 30 days old or so. go to advanced search and hit completed items. Get that SOB! Doubt ebay will help you so you might just go to the PD and get them to contact Egay. Egay likes to help the piggies out. B -
Depends on what is causing your rough spot in the crank rotation. I would guess just some funk in it. If that is the case, you better get it out before running it. That is just asking for a failure. You may have got something in there in the tear down. Now if the rough spot is in the bearing itself, your bearing life is likely going to me measured in minutes. No worky very long like that. Are you sure you this is not from the flywheel magnets or damaged PTO gear? Might pay to have an experienced tuner put a hand on it. NOT your machinist since he opted to hose you out of your last bore. Brandon

We are more or less looking at the substrate, grain, weight, ring quality, structural design, etc. IMO, every piston in the market should have a coating so comparing coating and no coating is like comparing a model with undies on and a model without undies. One is good, but the other, just better  Moly coatings are ok and more seen in production stuff. We have been coating engines with synthetic lubes and heat barrier coatings for years and they do even better. Brandon

We are doing a small study on pistons right now. Mostly because we are seeing several piston mfgs now and Wiseco is towards the top of the price war and not necessarily any better performance wise. We are comparing designs as well as metallurgical compositions, hardness, etc. Just curious what you guys have had good or bad luck with outside the normal Wiseco breed? Two stroke and four stroke pistons included.

Nice positive post D! By the way, were you having issues with the 8 heat range plugs? Can't say we have needed the 9s here on alky. Which series are you running? B

I think if the problem is coming from under the clutch cover, removing it should make the problem most apparent. There is generally some sort of mess in there to clean up. I am going to guess clutch not tight. brandon

Pull the lighting side stator wires out side the engine. The bullet connectors. black and yellow. Check resistance across them. Thanks should get us closer. I agree, probably grounding or lack of contact somewhere. You can have "one strand" left in your harness from a pinched wire that can cause this because of the high dynamic resistance. Brandon

If you did not drain the coolant first, yes, that is normal. It is part of the coolant system designed to purge air from the very top of the engine. It will generally drain until it develops a vacuum in the system and will continue draining one an air source (like the radiator cap) is opened. It will drain from the fitting due to hydrostatic head from the radiator pushing it up and out. If you remove the hose from the top of the radiator that connects it, it will not drain because the hose is higher than the water level in the bike. Hope that helps. Brandon

maybe it is my laptop, but I cannot see much in the pic. B

My previous post sounded a bit assish. sorry for that. I would recommend removing the cylinders and see what you have. Because of where the water temp sensor was, it was reading cooled water going back into the engine, not the hot water coming from the engine. I suspect the engine simply overheated. An engine will bog and run weak when hot. Overheat could have been caused by a number of things. Leaking coolant system, lack of air flow, low coolant level, etc. Hopefully you can get away with some piston cleanup if the rings are not welded into the pistons. Brandon

We do not believe in just running an engine after seizure unless in a race situation. You are assured damage of some sort in the engine and the jugs need pulled to determine the source. I am leaning towards over heat at this time. Not sure what caused it yet but get it apart and show pics and we can help from there. Where is the water temp sensor at? Should be reading water coming out of the head. Brandon

I agree, the KTM MX thumpers hit pretty hard right out of the box and even better with a few mods. Problem is many of them are pretty short on gearing so you might chase him down on the top. If he can ride, he should come out of the hole pretty hard and walk you for the first 100ft. That all depends on level of rider too. Brandon

Just curious who you guys go to for good pricing, service, and shipping for everything from gear to go fast parts? The dealer??
-
Ah, I never used the stuff and never knew what the compound was. hmmm. B

You're gunna get a rather biased opinion coming to a Banshee forum for that question. Guess it all depends and what riding you are doing and what "you" prefer. Brandon

I thought it was SC johnson  Actually it is Dupont. The trademark anyway. The patent is expired but still protected as a trademark name. What is EPDM? B

Paint jobs really are not investments. I really think 4K is a little step. I would expect some gold inlay for that. There really is no sqft on banshee fenders. A lot of guys, including myself, just paint their own. Brandon

I really doubt all the profanities and name calling will get the matter resolved an faster guys Keep it civil or take it to the private messages. Looks like parts were delivered but poorly packaged and slightly damaged. I fail to see where this deal needs to be elevated to "all this". Sounds like paypal is already working on it..... This thread has become nothing more than a trash talk session. Brandon

What do the pistons look like? Once the ribs are worn off the piston, they tend to degrade faster due to loss of oil retention. I would inspect them closely but probably would just replace them. .007 is on the high side but I have seen worse. I have seen .015 running. Your call. Brandon
-
The big question is how did you arrive at your measurements? If you used a caliper, ignore your results. Bore gage and mic is the minimum acceptable method. Your clearance shows .007" with your measurements. I would inspect the bore carefully for damage, taper, and eccentricity. If all that checks out, you may be able to get 65.50mm pistons and pull it back into tolerance. Banshee motors do not stay at .003 clearance very long anyway when "swellcos" are installed. by the way, using a feeler to check clearance is NOT a very accurate way of doing things. If you do not have the tools, have someone do it so you know where you are at. Brandon

You can always go with Kalrez O-rings   Bet you will not like the price though. We have some applications using Viton with good results. There are better choices though. Brandon

Just think of throwing a rubber ball against a wall. The farther the wall is from you, the longer it takes to bounce and come back. Closer wall, faster reaction. High RPMs require faster reactions to stuff lost air/fuel back into the motor before the door (piston) closes. Piston speed is higher. One of the large advancements for a next generation 2-stroke would be to have an exhaust that adjusts with rpm like a power valve does. Pipe tech goes way beyond what I wrote. You would really need to read some books on fluid and aero dynamics to better understand some of what happens. Size of the pipe is generally a function of the size of charge being expelled. Brandon
