  1. You sure you put the clutch together right? Pressure plate indexed correctly? If the pressure plate is rotated wrong, it will not apply pressure to the plates. Seen that toooo many times on DIY clutch builds. Just does not sound like you did anything to kill the trans. Possibly just an assembly issue. Brandon
  2. You are spot on. HP of the bike has nothing to do with it. Pressure plate force has everything to do with it. Coasting at a high MPH with the clutch pulled in is a worst case scenario. A large delta of trans rpm and engine rpm is a bad thing. Guys on inertial dynos kill them ALL the time because they are instructed to run up to max, then pull the clutch and coast down. Many cheapy dynos do not even have a disc brake to slow the roller so it can take some time to slow down all while super heating that ball. I agree, pancake = good idea but probably not needed for the every day dune bike. I have only killed them on a dyno. The ceramic ball only masks the problem because you are still looking at a small frictional surface area. The pancake "spreads the love" over a larger surface area thus not heating up as bad. Brandon
  3. Volatile = correct word. I get where you are coming from. I suck at explaining things myself. By the way, if you do have a large enough pile of black cat propellant ( flash powder), it will certainly go boom. Now you put that stuff in a shot gun shell, you are taking a trip to the ER, that is a guarantee. JFYI I think our pyrotechnics experience has really helped in our understanding of burn speeds and how it affects work done or parts failure. Brandon
  4. I don't think we can compare fire crackers to IC engine combustion. You refer to combustion as an "explosion" and that is what is called detonation in an IC engine. In a fire cracker, gun powder is not the propellant The oxidizer is a 600-800 mesh indian black head Al powder in which confinement is required for burn because it already has the oxidizer in the chemical compound. I think the terms "squish action" and "compression" are getting confused. Squish action determines vaporization of fuel and turbulence of charge BTDC. A rich mixture offers a cooling effect for a couple reasons. A, not all of the fuel will burn and dilute the burn. B, heat of vaporization kicks in and cools the chamber more as it is vaporized. Brandon
  5. That word should be banned when not referring to T&A.
  6. New crank bearings means new crank! Rod ends are shot. Needs rods and bearings, the works. Bet on it. Just trying to help  B
  7. Why don't you post the damage in the bores and mic them and go from there. Many times, scars in the right areas are just fine to leave as is. Remember, these are not 4 pokes. Brandon
  8. Probably because the hijacker has more than just your ebay acct. Email is VERY likely. Better be watching your cash accts closely. I would change everything if I was you. Brandon
  9. Get a new comp tester.... That one will read low. Brandon
  10. LOL, you got it D. I was all over my sister just yesterday for that texting and driving thing. Talk about a distraction. I think the only reason I brought up Obama is because the moneys that our wonderful state will get, will come from our wonderful fed gov't that is undoubtedly trickling this money out as part of the bail out campaign. I would have to agree, things were screwed up before he got here. I take a strong dislike to him for many reasons but mostly because he does not respect american values (the flag) and principles, and is not even a true american by law, yet, somehow, became president.
  11. You stand amount the minority for sure. Fact of the matter is statistics should speak volumes here. I honestly cannot believe we got the concealed carry law adopted in Kansas after the governor straight booted that thing. Have not heard of one wrongful shooting either. Anyway, that seems a topic for another day. Thanks for your view on the subject. You should make your voice heard on that.
  12. Bottom line guys, no one will stop the madness if we don't. The government has proven they will take all we will give them and more. Enough is enough. Obama - don't even get me started. All I will be able to say in 4 yrs is "I told you so but you were too fixed on his color to give a shit". I would take a purple president in a heart beat if they could do the job.
  13. The reason I posted here guys is that this can affect people rolling through our state going to riding areas as well as Kansans. I have fallen victim to a sting in OK where they wanted everyone out of my truck, wanted the dogs to sniff all our bags, etc. All because I had a flickering tail light. RU kidding???
  14. You got er! We have no helmet law! BUT, we REALLY need a seat belt law..... streets are 98% cars, 2% bikes. more MONEY! that is all there is to it.
  15. Good question. As the law stands now, Kansans can receive a ticket for this ONLY if they are cited for something else. It is already law IA, they cannot pull us over for a seat belt violation but can write it with a speeding violation. It makes no sense to have it anyway but at least, this way, they cannot pull me over at 3 in the morning because I "don't have my belt on". They are of course driving the safety aspect but we all "know" why they are doing it. B
  16. You got it!! People of Kansas probably think just because they wear a belt, they are in the clear. Not so, pigs just get another simple excuse like tag light to pull people over if they so wish. I am so fucking sick of watching every single freedom I enjoyed as a kid, gets thrown to the dogs so they can extort money from me. Lets see, my tax dollars pay the initial $11.2M right up, then I get to pay for every little infraction that refers to that law. So I am paying them to fuck me. Can anything make less sense????? It is a legalized bribe. If you read to the bottom of that attachment, they are speculating how many belt violations there are thus trying to assess what kind of money they can make with this screw job. What is next, a tax to cut my grass???? AND a fine I don't cut it at 2.5in tall???? B
  17. http://www.kslegislature.org/supplemental/2010/SN0059.pdf Here is our wonderful government at work! Looking to accept $11.2M in cash to adopt the enforcable seat belt law making it legal for pigs to just pull you over and nail your ass because you don;t have a belt on. Then search your vehicle, smell your breath, put their finger in your ass, you name it. As you can tell, I am NOT for this BULLSHIT! Why, because our pigs need no further excuses to pull people over for the hell of it and take money out of my tax paying ass. It pisses me off to no end that people seem to simply ignore that all our freedoms are slowly but surely going away. We are already on the brink of losing A L L semi automatic weapons. Do you think the pigs are for that???? You bet they are. Will this take guns from crminals?? Hell no, it will just screw the rest of us. When was the last time you heard of an avid AR-15 collector taking someone out in a bank robbery? It is a scam that our "Savior himself" BS (Baracock Obama) is leading. Now back to the belt law, I realize many states already have this wonderful BULLSHIT and I feel sorry for you but I firmly feel if I want to go driving without my seat belt and eat some windshield, that is my business. I have probably been pulled over around 500 times in my life now for anything from "you fit the description of bla bla" to " I did not think your tail lights worked". F U !!!!!! I pay taxes, I pay YOUR wages ASSHOLE. Give me some respect and maybe I might show you a little.... Anyway, you can tell I get pissed just thinking about this whole deal. If any Kansans agree and would be interested in a petition, let it be known. I would like to add though that a belt law for 18 and younger IS a smart idea. I force my rug rats to buckle and I think that is important but that is really not the issue. I know it is safer, I just don't need MR asshole in blue "teaching me" a lesson at every corner of the road. B
  18. Is the cylinder deck messed up? What is very common in what you are describing is people will not install the locating dowels on the bottom of the cylinders and they will not align right with the head and when you torque the head bolts, the head will pull the cylinders out of whack and cause a leak. It is more common with base gasket leaks though. I would also want to check the length of each barrel and figure out if one is longer than another. .001" should be OK but much more than that can be a problem. As D mentioned, if you already torqued down on the head, you may have tweaked it a bit. I would surface very carefully to reveille any high spots that could be causing problems. What is leaking and where from? Brandon
  19. You will benefit more from a 4mm stroker. Much improved bottom end. They run really good setup for trails on the stock cylinders. brandon
  20. The point I was trying to make earlier is that if you even mention law suit to TAG, they may be obligated to move you to the legal department in which there will be NO compensation. Been involved with enough legal battles to tell ya, there is no case here. I would be rather polite with TAG and they might just send you another set of bars. The list of disclaimers for that bar failure can extend for many pages and I really doubt finding a lawyer to take the case will be easy. If you are cordial with TAG, they might help you out a bit. Brandon
  21. Can you? Absolutely......BUT, per my experience (around 500 Banshee motors now), I would advise against it. I could explain it in as much detail as you care to listen to but the fact is, you WILL be wasting your money but hey, if everyone listened, all us builders would be out of jobs... I know you are waiting on the one reply that will indicate you are "good to go" but the fact is, the bore has a problem. I am going totally off your measurements though and assuming they are accurate. To put this in a nutshell, round ring, oval hole, how does that seal? It does not. Add to this that the eccentricity is at the top of the barrel and will see combustion pressures, the blow by will cause excessive piston heating, carbon fouling of the rings which will lead to more blowby and heat, and then you get to do it the right way, all over again. I guess I rarely explain myself and always come off sounding like an arrogant ass with a keyboard but I guess I have been there, done that. Round rings are made for round holes. Your pistons are not too far out but the bores are the issue. I commend you on getting numbers because it really does take all the guess work out if it. I have no idea how many people come on asking if they need bored because they have 90psi comp. I would say, "ask your builder". With measurements though, we can offer much better advise and mine stands. Bore and do it right or ride it as is for a while longer and roll the dice. Either way, new pistons in those bores is a waste of money. Brandon
  22. LOL. Your on it J. We have made some damn good power with the 68-71mm sleeves in sleeper motors. I would say though that the transfer flow and volume is difficult to achieve and it takes substantial work in that area but the sleeves do not reduce what is already there. Also agree that you have a few more options on port timing though the cubs can be modified for trail stuff to. We have a couple running MX with them. NOT fun to get worked out though. Brandon
  23. I really think publicly bashing a legitimate business for a parts failure when there is ZERO data of the structural fatigue of the part is rather ignorant. Not trying to start a fire here but as a structural engineer, I can see it rather easy to shoot holes through the "bars just broke" theory. I cannot speak specifically for TAG and do not know all the specifics of the part but usually pushing a part like this to fatigue limits will include deflecting a part past bending. Read, bent. I think until all the facts are really known like the type of life the bars have had and the condition they were in when a "wheelie" was enough to literally break them in half, one would really just be guessing here. I just think bashing TAG might not be wise just yet. At least you might get a set of bars out if it, but definitely not a few mill. JMO.
  24. Proper inspection of the parts should tell the story but by the looks of your friction plates, your basket has wear. The whole thing needs to be looked at, even the cushions behind the basket. Plates just don't break for no reason. I would agree though, a new clutch system will likely fix your issues. brandon
  25. Cannot say as though I have heard of bars just breaking off.................. I will leave it at that. B
