Cant get PT mids to fit.......
bigboybanshee replied to jlsparky7's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
^^^ To be honest, that's not farfetched...I do remember there being a year stamped on my PT's along with the name and 350 banshee. I never thought about that...but it sure would suck if that were so in jlsparkys case. -
Here's a pic, I left the pic big so you could see the difference. I'm pretty sure they're the same size diameter hole (if the number is the same), but do the letters signify anything in particular?

I was going through my bag of jets tonight (Keihin) and noticed some had just the number 168, and others had like 168RD, and another had AB 168. Now, I could tell that one jet had a few more threads on it than the other, but that was the only difference that I could tell. My main question is...what do those letters mean, RD, AB, etc. ? Do they have any affect on the diameter of the hole in the jet? Or are they all the same diameter, just maybe for different applications given the longer threads on one over the other....LOL, I don't know...if I'm not making any sense just tell me  I'll take a pic here in a minute to show you....

Take some pics of what it looks mounted at the cylinders. Your pipes look just like mine do. I'm just trying to help, not trying to say you're wrong or anything like that...you may have received a funky set of pipes, but I just know what a pain in the butt it was for me the first time I installed the PT's...it took me a while to get it all right. Work on it a little more, you just may get it lined up Simply curious, but are you trying to mount the pipe directly to the frame or are you using pipe hangers? I just didn't see any so I wanted to ask  Good luck with this! Also, if you can, take a pic holding the pipe where it should be (mounted to the frame) and see where the inlet ends up. -

The ones on fouledout420's look like the high revs...your PT's look like the mids, they can be a pain in the butt to get on... Just curious, but have you tried putting that pipe on the left side to see if it fits better? You'll have some fun getting them on, try rotating the pipe on the exhaust flange to change the angle of it. Dab some grease on the exhaust flange (on the cylinders) and it'll help the pipe rotate around until you find the spot it needs to be in...I had to put a spacer on the pipe mount because it sat out a little far, but the holes lined up for the most part. Here's a couple pics of my PT's installed.... See if you can get the pipe on the inside of the frame before sliding it on the exhaust flange, see if that helps some. Reference where the label is on my pipes compared to yours in the pics. Like I said before, try rotating the pipe around on the flange once it's on, see if it makes a difference. -
PM Big Blue, he has one that is brand new for sale. FYI, there are two people on here that share that screen name, a BIG_BLUE, and Big Blue Big Blue is the one you want

Looking for a good set of engine cases that don't have the chain whack on them. I can pay cash and/or have things to trade. Let me know, I'm gonna need them ASAP. Thanks
-
Not sure if you're wanting used or new, but I got mine from F.A.S.T. Jeff. When you do get them, be sure to put teflon tape around the bolts, it'll help prevent them from leaking. Just an FYI for when you do get some

I'd drop it down to like a 155 or 160 and see how it feels. -

Ahhhhhh, Jeff.....Didn't think you'd do it....if you part it out, let me know, I want those plastics Good luck to ya on the trade  -
I really don't think the boost bottle will have an effect. Even if the reading was "inaccurate", your goal is still the same, make the carbs pull the same amount of air. If one side is pulling more than the other, than your carbs are not in sync. I'm assuming you're using one of the sync tools, right? On another note, even if the boost bottle is in fact aiding in keeping the carbs synced, technically it shouldn't matter as long as your slides are both opening at the same time and both cylinders are running equally. I guess if it comes down to it you could always remove the boost bottle, plug the holes, and test it again once you think you have them in sync...

Being honest, you should ride the bike first, find out if it has enough power for you, and if it doesn't, mod it accordingly. Do not be concerned with going 100mph, cause I guarantee you will never see 100mph in a trail, period. My drag bike doesn't do 100mph, but I guarantee it'll smoke anything you'd be racing in the trails...do you catch my drift?
-
Agreed. But he'll also need something more than pipes and a filter to get it to pull that kind of gearing, unless he's got a couple mile stretch to get it there, LOL! What kind of riding do you do that requires you to hit 100mph?
-
This may sound stupid but do you think you may have accidentally bought two without realizing it?

Sand can sneak by the air filters

I know this isn't really the answer you're looking for but it all depends on how aggressive your port job is....the only real way to tell if you're getting optimal performance is to check your plugs. If you're looking for a starting point, my best guess would be to start around 310/320 mains and work around that.
-
With a lid I'd start at 280 mains, 27.5 pilots and check your plugs, may be slightly rich. If you pull the lid go up one size on the mains. You can keep the lid and modify it to allow more airflow, almost like not having it on at all. You can cut 1.5" off the back of the lid and it'll give you more airflow as well as keep almost all the water out. I personally, do not run a lid on mine and I'll go through water like that. As long as you're not plowing through water you'll be fine

I've used Armadillo and DG skid plates and haven't had any problems out of them. They were mounted with the supplied "half" clamps. You can pick up replacement clamps online.
