  1. I never go down the track without them! My pegs have spikes, always wear boots, helmet, gloves, etc. Safety is utmost priority. There are a ton of great points in this thread, but the sad truth is, no dirt/sand organizations are serious enough about the sport to implement it.
  2. Yes, stock is 14/41. Depending on track conditions with tire choice, it could be what you need. Just remember, if you're tuning for 300' specifically, don't bother with 6th gear, tune for the top of 5th at the finish line. If you're leaving in first, use it only to get you moving then immediately shift to second. 1 tooth on the front is somewhat equivalent to 3 teeth in the rear. If you're close, fine tune your gearing with the rear sprocket. If you're far off, change the front. Also, if you're using a strut for the rear suspension, adjusting that can increase or decrease traction to help utilize your gearing. LOL, lots of factors
  3. There is no "right" answer for this kind of question, too many variables (rider weight, chassis weight, tires, track conditions, engine tune, etc. etc.). The only way to find the correct gearing is to start with something and fine tune from there. You want to be at the top of fifth gear when you cross the finish line. Whatever combination gets you there is what you go with...not trying to be a smartass, just being straight forward and honest.
  4. To the tracks, they don't care what classes are run or how, they are happy to have bikes attend. If a drag race is what HQ wants to hold, I think it would be cool to have an asphalt race and a dirt/sand event. Hell, HQ could setup all kinds of events for different types of riders, even if it's just one event a year for a particular setup. Fuck joining someone else's gig, create your own, make it yours.
  5. What I want to know is, why does it have to be associated with another organization (PS or PSDA)? It's not like either of them have the tracks locked up where only they can hold events. Let's setup the HQ events, create your own rules, regulations, etc. to match what you want to see? Most tracks I have been to aren't going to turn away an opportunity to gather a bunch of racers, they don't care what you ride, it's the fact that you are riding that matters
  6. You got it Tyler, will send you a PM shortly
  7. Yes, I was banned for supporting another's idea and asking them to let us vote on it, to see if it could be worked into 2013 or later years. I was ridiculed by one admin then another banned me for calling them hypocrites. A site "for the racers by the racers" but they won't allow the racers to even hold a vote as to what they may want to see at their events. Complete BS. And for the record, I didn't come here to bash their site, I simply was commenting on your suggestion. I was banned 6 months ago
  8. Yes, I am talking about PSDA, there isn't as much difference as you think. They will ban you for asking them to stick to what they say on their main page. Same ship, different name.
  9. Truth is, even with rules, someone will be making excuses. It has never prevented people from making excuses in the past
  10. LOL, I know they have quite a few events, my point was, don't bother with that org, they aren't what they claim to be. They run it like the Obama administration. Think like me, or else I'll veto/ban you
  11. PFFFFFFT, don't waste your time and head to the dunes or a local event.
  12. I've got a nice skin of some sort that I'll sell you. It's in perfect condition, just pulled it off because it didn't match my plans. It's a nice brown color, seat was done by deafman chassis, think it's ostrich print or something. All you need is a seat, foam, and filet knife and staple this one on. I also have another one that's black on the sides and brown down the middle, think it's alligator but don't know. Same scenario as the other, done by deafman, pulled off to change design. PM me if interested, I can definitely get you a pic of either. $50 shipped for one or 80 for both?
  13. My bad, you posted it in the drag section so I just assumed you were drag racing.
  14. Its all in tire, gearing, clutch setup, and track conditions. Dump it off the line
  15. Technically you can mix the two and get away with it, I suppose I was just coming from the angle of why go through the trouble since you can buy different octanes, but you answered it. 50/50 - 93 and 110 would get you 101.5 octane. You could get higher than 101.5 if you use more 110 w/ the 93, but how much, I cannot answer. This is the main reason I don't recommend mixing fuels...If you are absolute certain you're using 2.5 gallons of each, you can come out with the correct octane, but if you use 2.3 gallons of 110 and 2.7 gallons of 93, it won't be 101.5. Unless you have something to measure exact gallons, half gallons, etc., you can screw it up really easily. If you do mix fuels, make sure you mix them very well as they have different densities.
  16. I've used moose muffler packing in the past, worked great. I would recommend NOT mixing the two fuels to increase the lower octane. Just buy whatever octane you need and run with it.
  17. Your biggest setback is the carbs and pipes. You should invest in at least a set of 35's, but I'd go 39's. It's like using a straw when you need a garden hose. Cubs like fuel and it's not really fair to judge the setup until you give it what it needs to run at full potential. Shearers make an excellent inframe as well. When you get the setup right, that ported 465 will use every bit of that swingarm. You could try and tune more on the needle and mains, but I honestly don't think you'll find the power you're looking for without giving it the proper amount of fuel. Once you get more fuel to it, you can also bump your timing up and gain a little more power. What about your clutch setup...what are you running?
  18. Yes, go up on your pilot jet. Closing the idle scew reduces the air making it richer.
  19. To me, it sounds kind of like your clutch isn't adjusted properly....or..... Pull your airbox lid off and the filter out and see if it does the same thing
  20. You can't get an honest plug reading without running it wide open for at least 5 gears...at the end of the last gear, pull the clutch in and shut the engine off and coast to a stop. Pull out your plug wrench, change your plugs, ride back to wherever and check the plugs you made a pass on (they need to be new plugs to do this test). As I said before, if you had a 55 in it at first and it idled OK, go back to it. When did you notice the one side smoking more than the other? Did you by chance leave one choke on and not turn it off? Where are your air screws set on each carb? How fresh is this setup?
  21. 172 main and 60 pilot, air screw 4 turns out...spot on
  22. If you are duning, then I wouldn't recommend alcohol or nitrous. You'll run out of fuel pretty fast, or will need a 5 gallon tank and extra jug of fuel carried on the back, and with that extra weight, you'd more than likely counter any gains achieved by switching to alcohol. Nitrous is not something you just strap on and hit a button to go fast. It's a lot more complicated than that, and not really ideal for duning to be riding around with a 2.5lb bottle strapped to your bike, for starters. Bottle temp/pressure has to be correct or a lot can go wrong quickly. Your best bet is to finish off the simple stuff by getting an ignition, lightened flywheel, and lighten the chassis...if you don't want to do anything to the bore or stroke.
  23. Are you wanting to dune with this bike or just take it to the strip?
