  1. brake cleaner, its what its for acts like carburator cleaner except its for brakes
  2. I'm having trouble with clutch drag, its not slipping any because its a new clutch and cable and the little adjustor nut in the middle is adjusted right. The cable is adjusted all the way out. and it still drags. Do i need a new clutch basket and if so what is a good brand,is SRP a good brand or should i go with hinson. Do i need any other parts to go along with the basket, like the pressure plate or inner hub. If i order a new basket what about the gear behind it does it come with one or what?
  3. for your key switch i believe you splice the red/black wire to the black wire so that it is on
  4. Well, I finally decided on a pipe and ended up ordering a esr trx 11 pipe, just got it this evenin and had just enough time before it got dark to put it on and ride it, but my jetting is kinda off, its really rich on the bottom end and a little rich on the top end. But holy shit I have never seen a 2 stroke pipe as fat as this one :baseball_w00t: . It was a really tight fit with my fmf sliencer and the front right tire rubs when I turn it sharp, and the mounting tab on the esr pipe didnt work where it was supose to, but I got er rigged up :thumb: and as for the test ride, its alot louder and has a pretty mean sounding ping to it, and it sorta has a banshee type light switch powerband now, got a decent hit in the mid range and just keeps pulling from there, but it is still no where close to pulling like the shee  and I still have pretty good low end also, but this thing should really open up once I get it jetted a tad leaner.
  5. Ok, I think i've decided on either a bill's pipe/sliencer or a esr trx5 pipe (with a bills sliencer, the esr is too high). But at the moment Im kinda leaning toward the bills cause I can get it from magic racing for $180, where as the esr is $250 on their site. And im pretty sure the saying, "you get what you pay for" definately applies to this. but I run bills pipes on the banshee and they perform and sound great, so Im guessing that a bills pipe would be just as good for the 250r, cause just like with with the stock banshee pipes, any aftermarket pipe would be better than the stock 250r pipe. so does anyone have any experience with the bills pipe? and I dont know if this matters, but I really dont ever plan on getting it ported, even though it would probably wake this thing up alot.
  6. anyone here like that show pinks! on the speed channel? I usually watch it when ever its on, even if i've seen the episode over an over before, its still pretty entertaining. I wonder if they might ever have some quads on there? man it would be awesome to have a episode with two tricked out asphalt drag banshees. I mean they've had street bikes on there, why not some drag quads? me and my brothers have thought about makin our own little "episode" out in the hay field, have a bunch of friends come over so we can have all the argueing and negoitiating, which is what makes the show so entertaing aside from the racing. it would be awesome if done right with enough people, maybe have a 300 or 400 ft race with the banshee and the 400ex. have ta give the 400 like 6 lengths and run da banshee with the airbox lid on :yelrotflmao:
  7. is that place like a big race track or something? never heard about that. Sounds like to me that kid was an idiot with no good judgement or common sense :shoothead: . here lately theres been a few stories about kids getin killed on atvs. and I think almost every one of em said that the kid was hit by a car when they pulled out onto the road without lookin. I know these are sad storys an all, but If you ask me its their fault for not slowing down and looking for traffic. and even riding on the streets/roads is still not a smart thing to do, but everyone does it at one time or another. I try to stay off the roads as much as possible, enless I have to
  8. no way im doin that. Thanks for all the replies here, this was exactly the info I was lookin for. damn it sucks that I had to screw this shit up just to change some wheel bearings. I guess though, that it would be easier to just find some cheap 400ex spindles/hubs/ and maybe calipers to use, since its easier to find EX parts. the 400ex spindles do look pretty stout though, maybe thats why alot of guys with 250r's use em? but one more quick question, I plan on getting new tie rods and ends later on, would I need to order 250r or 400ex tie rods if I had 400ex spindles?
  9. I have a question for anyone who knows much about 250r's. I got some new front wheel bearings for it and while I was changing em, I've ran into some trouble. I got one side off and the bolts holding the brake caliper on were almost impossible to break loose. the other side I had no luck with and striped the allen bolts out. tried welding a bolt on em to break em loose, still no luck. so I un bolted the spindle from the a-arms and put the thing in a vise to man handle the bitches out, but still nothing has worked yet. and I screwed up big time I think cause I tried taking a sawsall and cutting the bolt heads off so the caliper would come off and then I was just gonna drill out the bolts and re-tap the holes in the spindle. but I dont think it will work so I guess I just screwed up . So for my question, will 400ex spindles/hubs/calipers work on a 86' 250r? for example, could I use 400ex spindle and use the 250r caliper and hub? I know this is bansheehq , but I havent looked for any 250r sites yet and I thought someone here could help atleast, thanks
  10. I got a 86' 250r the other day in pretty nice condition, guy wanted 2800 for it. traded a 2000 cr 125 and some cash for it. its in really good clean shape. guy said the transmission been overhauled and a fresh top and bottom end. its got aftermarket aluminum wheels, new holeshots. extended aftermarket swingarm and carrier. chassis skidplate, fmf sliencer and stock pipe. but I cant believe how slow this thing feels. we draged with the banshee and it just ate it up big time. this thing feels like a blaster . but its got a ton of torque and low end, you can lug around in 3rd and 4th easy. so whats a good all around pipe for these? I was looking at a bills, fmf, or procurcit, or esr all-around pipe or their drag pipe for some extra topend. would a topend pipe take any power away from the lowend? cause I wanna have a nice trail bike and still have some good pull for drags.
  11. Back in Janurary of this year, I ran through a barb wire fense on the banshee goin about 30-35 mph. This was in the place that I ride like every day. I was coming up out of this trail in the woods into the field, and theres this open gap in an old fense row that I go through to get to another trail. Well it just so happend that a guy that was renting the field from us to put some horses in had closed the gap with three strands or barb wire. I didnt know he had put it up and was heading straight for it like it wasnt even there and when I get to about 10 -15 feet from it I just then see it but I couldnt react fast enough. the banshee breaks through the two lower strands, but I catch the top strand right in the throat. I get clotheslined of the back of the shee and it rolls about 20 feet and stops. I dont remember exactly, but I think I did like a backflip and smacked the ground hard, I had a helmet on. I remember laying on my back looking up and every thing is just spinning in circles and im trying to catch my breath, felt like someone was standing on my throat and I couldnt get air. if you know what it feels like to get hit in the stomach or balls real hard and how it feels like you cant breath, thats how I felt. I unstraped my helmet after I caught my breath and felt my throat. When I exhaled I felt air coming out and first thing I thought was holy shit! it cut my wind pipe completely in two I later find out. So I walk back to the banshee, start it and ride about a half mile down the road back to the house holding my shirt collar over my throat. my parents rush me to the hospital. in the car I looked in the mirror and I could see this perfect quarter inch wide slit all the way accross my throat, but I didnt have no bleeding at all from it . they did emerengcy surgury there and put a trach in and then life flight me to louisville hospital. There they sewed up my throat and put a stomach tube in me. I was in the hospital for 12 days. they couldnt let me leave untill they got my blood thinner stabilized ( it also did some artery damage in there, which is why I have to take blood thinner untill july). I was able to eat regular food befor I left though. I still have the trach right now cause I still cant breath clearly enough through my mouth and nose, and it messed up my vocal chords and I cant talk, but I can make a loud wisper kinda. sorry for the long story, hope your friend recovers alright
  12. one thing you could try is riggin' up a temp gauge. I got one on mine, used a meat thermometer and put a T-fitting in that small hose that goes from the top of the radiater to the front of the head. it works awesome for me, I allways know exactly how hot my bike is running. in the trails it usuall stays about 120 to 130 degrees, depending on how hard I ride. When I cut a couple 4th gear wide open dounuts it gets to about 160 or more
  13. is there anybody on ebay that sells trued and welded oem cranks for a decent price? I dont think there is anyone around here that does anything like that ( that I know of). When someone says that they rebuilt the crank, does that mean they got new connecting rods, needle bearings and pins and thrust washers, and those three bearings in the center? and can you visibly tell if a crank has been welded, like can you see the bead or anything? I dont need the outside bearings and seals cause I already have some brand new ones not even used yet.
  14. I need a new crankshaft for this banshee rebuild project im doin. Im just looking for something cheap and reliable cause I dont want to spend a lot of money on this bike, i've already spent more then planed cause I had to get new cylinders for it. Im thinking about either getting a brand new oem crank on ebay for around $250 or so, or I could get a vitos crank for $339. im not planning on building this thing up power wise cause the cases have been busted up from a chain derailment and this is just gonna be a trail/ play around bike.
  15. you got it back wards the, overflow hose that runs from the top of your radiator goes to the BOTTOM of the coolant bottle and the top hose is the vent line, you would just be pumping it back into your tranny, cause thats how the guy that we bought ours off of had it running. the vent tube from the water pump can be run straight up the frame in front of it. no need for the T, just run the case vent straight down between the swingarm and case. Or just do what we did and run the rad over flow line straight down the frame and get rid of the bottle no need for it.
  16. yea I guess you could say that. I knew this thing was rough before I got it, but i was looking for one to fix up anyway so oh well . just didnt really know how bad untill I tore into it. I already bought some fresh cylinders on ebay, came from a 2005 model. now I just need a piston kit, crankshaft ( havent decided yet, gonna go with a vitos or a brand new oem crank), and I found a deal on ebay for a brand new flywheel, ricky stator adj. timing plate and new stator for $250 . so after I get all that I 'll have a completely fresh motor and then i'll start puting it back together.
  17. klotz benol is pretty good non synthetic oil to use, thats what I used to break in my topend, mixed at 32:1. and for now im gonna use castor 927 for a couple of tanks at 40:1 and see how it does. I think its like a blend of synthetic and castor oil both?. to me that stuff makes your exhaust smell so sweet . when ever I leave a big blue smoke cloud somewhere I always ride back through it just to smell it
  18. not too long ago, me and my brother got us a cheap ragged out banshee to fix up, traded a nice 2002 blaster and $250 for it should have been a more than even trade cause the dealer was sellin the shee for $1500, but he had to be a dick and want 250 cause he already had 1 blaster that hadnt sold. this banshee ran, but it smoked a lot out the right side and the clutch felt pretty weak. it has procurcit pipes and sliencers, TCS front shocks ( cha ching ) full body skid plate, nerf bars, aftermarket wheels and tires and a few other little things. the top and bottom cases were busted and it had maybe a small pin hole leak by the sprocket that was jb welded from where the chain derailed, but I could understand why cause it didnt have any chain guide or rollers and a rear end of an 87 or 88 model ( 4 bolt sprocket hub and early style carrier). I have no idea what year this banshee could be, the number on the engine case is not there, it is smooth like sombody scrubed it out, it had dark grey and yellow plastic like a 97 or 98, the rear end of a 87 or 88 ( but it doesnt have j-arms) and the number on the frame is a 2000 model or up, going by my clymers manual. but when I got it home I rolled it straight out of the back of my truck to inside my shop to start striping it down and inspect shit. I love doing stuff like this, kinda feels like opening up a christmas present . turned out this thing was alot worse than I first thought. it needs bearings for almost everything, one tie rod was about to fall out of its threads, good thing i didnt ride it . the cylinders where already bored over .100 over and scratched up. it didnt have head studs but instead long bolts that some dumbass used to bolt the head on. and a couple of em even drilled down into the water jacket in the cylinders . on the left side of the moter it was a fucking gom. the flywheel looked like somebody beat the shit out of it with a hammer. the stator plate was broke and the guy had some kinda steel piece welded/bolted in there, and the end of the crankshaft was bent. the guy musta been haulin' ass when his chain came off cause it looked like it did some major fucking damage. the right side crank seal was chewed up pretty bad and wasnt installed properly, guess thats why it was smoking and didnt run real good.
  19. sorry to bust in on this little argument, figured it'd be easier than to make another clutch topic. when I pull my clutch lever in, the bike still wants to roll forward and it gets worse when I rev it up. also when Im setting there (with clutch pulled in) I cant shift to neutral from 1st gear, the shifter moves fine, but its like it wont engage or something. I need a new clutch cable cause its stretched right now. and im thinking that the steel plates might be warped or burnt, which I think would cause the clutch to drag like it is. if I got a new clutch kit and cable would it also fix the problem where I cant shift from 1st to neutral, or do I need to adjust the screw thing for the shift shaft arm? and I also just got finished rebuilding the engine, new crank and topend, if this matters.
  20. has anyone here recently or ever ordered any graphic kits from www.graphicmx.com ? I ordered a flame graphics kit for a cr 125 last september and I still aint got it yet. I've been cheated $130 from those bastards, sent like 10 emails and called em several times times but never no replies back and every time I called I get a message sayin that number is out of service or something. they havent updated their site since i've known about it, and the message on there is misleading, saying that they've been shut down but are now back full filling orders. I even have a receipt printed off with a order number and everything. think there might be a chance I get my stuff? cause im startin to doubt it
  21. if your just looking to remove rust and polish up chrome, heers a pretty neat way I saw on mythbusters on the discovery channel. just use some cola or coke or whatever and some aluminum foil. i didnt believe it at first till I tried it on my chrome wheels on my truck. they had a little rust ring around the center hubcap and a few other spots. just poured some coke on the rust, then took some aluminum foil and scrubed it and the rust came right off suprisingly easy, and when I sprayed the wheel of with the water hose, all I can say is I had some pretty nice lookin wheels . If you dont believe me try it yourself.
  22. if thats not the most retarded thing i've ever read, I dont know what is $750 for a banshee, thats a helluva deal (if it runs?) . any reason why its being given away so cheap?
  23. I'd like maybe a small cheap trophy that said what I accomplished or whatever, and a bunch of cash to go with it
  24. well, I work for my dad, we have helped frame up a couple houses, but we mostly build barns and small buildings and put metal roof and siding on em, just basic construction stuff like that. but Im just a labor boy, I dont know much about the cost and other stuff like that, i'd have to ask my boss . this is just a wild guess and probly way off , but maybe between 40 to $60,000 for the material, roofing, siding, etc. and everything else you can think of
  25. Im not 100 percent sure, but I think those holes are for the bearings to get lubrication ? When I had my cases apart, I thought about that and bolted one of the cylinders to the top case to see how it looked underneath. and it looked like it was about as smooth and free flowing as could be and didnt look like it needed any modification
