Pasi S. Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 I use 22-11-9 and 23-7-10 in winter time. I have Bone Stocker too. I will go 13/42 gearing or something like that in next winter. -Pasi Quote
rubberneck Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Yes, forgot to mention, i drop to a 13 tooth front and it feels pretty close to the smaller tires with stock14 tooth gearing Quote
mark101180 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 These are a set of Maxxis SurTraks 22-11.5-9 that I used to run on gnarly trails and hill climbs. They are a little heavy but hook up really well in the nasty shit, even mud. The larger tires will take a little off the bottom end and raise top speed slightly but can be compensated for with gearing changes. ill bet those tires would work even better for you if you had the thread facing the correct direction Quote

g_low0885 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 ill bet those tires would work even better for you if you had the thread facing the correct direction the direction of the tire depends on what type of riding you are going to do. they are a directional tire. one way is for mud. the other way it is for sand and snow. it is written on the side of the tire to but tread theis way for mud and other for sand or snow. Invader Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Seems like I read somewhere that the Baja racers were set up using 22 rears and 23 fronts?? No one on this board is set up like that?? No one running Holeshot XCTs? 22x11x9? I run in the same area as you. I just bought maxxis razers 23 up front and 22 in the rear. I was experiencing the same thing with the terrain. i love the clearance i have now! i didn't change any of the gearing and love the way it runs. I ride 25 miles north of blythe on the california side. out of Water Wheel park if you know that area. Quote

I need to do sprockets and chain soon, anyway, so I can regear then. Down 1 on small gear?? Was out this morning and banged the skid too many times... Edited April 27, 2009 by big papa Quote
rubberneck Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 Yep either go down 1 in front or up 3 in rear. I think you will like that. I like to go smaller on the front only for the reason that bigger in the rear decreases the clearance between the skid and rear sprocket and if you are hitting shit like i do then it will get smashed into the sprocket sooner. BlasterKX Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) ive got 22" kenda rampages. got 13/41 gearing and it hooks nicly on just about every riding ive hit so far from sand, gravel, mud, creek, and rocks. Edited April 28, 2009 by BlasterKX Quote
desertdeweller Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 I live in arizona too I run 23" hole shot up front and 22" bandits in the rear. The bandits are a very heavy kevlar belted tire and will hurt power some. But I got tired of ruining rear holeshots in 2 or 3 rides or races. The bandits are far tougher than the hole shots and don`t wear near as bad. As far as the rear skid is concerned I don`t even run them any more. I got tired of replacing those too, seemed like they did more damage than anything. The stock crappy skid got tore off in less than an hour the first race I did and it got shoved through the side wall of the tire. The aluminum skids have done nothing but bend the tabs on the swinger and end up wrapped around the disk and sprocket. I do tag the disk on rocks pretty hard sometimes wear it will flare the disk some. I just take a file to it to remove the flared area I have not had to replace the disk yet. If your rear shock link tags the rocks a lot also watch the swinger I have cracked it a bunch of times even gusseting the crap out of it. The square tube that is welded in the center that the dog bone mounts to. It cracks around the outer edges of it. Quote
xXBlessedWithDeathXx Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 22-12.5-10 Vampires in the rear ITp 23" up front. they also make the Vampire for a 9' rim. Quote
250Rho Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 my bad i was thinkin backward i like flattrack ya id def try to stay as small in the rear as you can though for clearence id try to pick up 1 or 2 teeth in the front rather than make the rear bigger. from what ive seen small front sprokets tend to start jumping and slipping sooner thatn larger ones. i also dont run a skid so thats another reason i feel this way Quote
Woolfman Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 I have 22's on the rear on the pics in my sig. Quote
