big papa Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 I ride in the desert (AZ), but many of the trails between washes are lined w/ immovable rocks sticking up and clanking the bottom of my banshee. I do have skidplates, but I am in neeed of need of new tires and am contemplating taller tiers front and rear. I would like to see some pics and here some opinions. Also, what are the affects on power/speed? I am bone stock! Also, I came off of riding a Raptor, and I miss getting the front wheels off the dirt, so I would like a taller tire that grips... Pics for clicks... Quote

250Rho Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao:  might go with 20s or 22s and loose a few teeth in the rear probly just me but i hate riding with big tires they catch your leg and drag you off and rub your fenders and cause bouncy issues and they dont drift very well. i like to slide  Quote
250Rho Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 if youve ever seen a blaster or ridden one with stock bald tires with way too mutch air youd know what i mean. and id look about the same. the reason i say blaster is that we are too proud of our sheez to let them have shity tires, blaster people really dont care Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 These are a set of Maxxis SurTraks 22-11.5-9 that I used to run on gnarly trails and hill climbs. They are a little heavy but hook up really well in the nasty shit, even mud. The larger tires will take a little off the bottom end and raise top speed slightly but can be compensated for with gearing changes. Quote

big papa Posted April 26, 2009 Author Report Posted April 26, 2009 Seems like I read somewhere that the Baja racers were set up using 22 rears and 23 fronts?? No one on this board is set up like that?? No one running Holeshot XCTs? 22x11x9? Quote
Fireroad Express Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 heres a few pics of my bike . 22 x 11 x 9 s on the back and 20 x 6 x 10 on front. good clearance in the rear but i may drop back to 20s when i get some new rears. Quote
fastrthnu Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 wanna know a lil secret,.... the banshee back in the mid 80`s was built by yamaha for a baja 1000 race prior to its release in mass production,... so I cant imagine why they wouldnt have put a bigger tire on it if it was a problem. In the woods in some places here there are giant chuncks of coral sticking out of the ground,.; I go around them. The DS650 is also engineered in more modern times which has enough torque to run a 22 or taller tire, made for baja racing come with a 20" tire on rear and 22" in front. In xc and gncc the common tire is 20" to clear stumps, logs, and rocks. go around them, or get bigger tires. bigger tires suck on sport quads unless your in really loose terrain. Quote
2001Stroker Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 I came off of riding a Raptor, and I miss getting the front wheels off the dirt Why can't you get the front end up on your Banshee? You should be able to pop it right up and over rocks, just like your Raptor. Especially with a stock length swingarm. 250Rho, if he gets a taller tire, he needs to add teeth in the rear to compensate, not lose them. Quote
wacko2000 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Taller tires arent all that bad if you play with your gearing alittle. 20'' tires suck on the terrain we ride. I break them loose way to easy, I dont hook for shit with 20's When im running 22's i usually keep a 44in the rear and its fucking awesome. Quote
rubberneck Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Dont have any pics on this computer, but i run 22/11/9 razr 2's with 23/7/10 razr 2s on my bike. They are a must where we ride becuase there are tons of rocks, and the extra ground clearance really helps keep you from hanging up all the time. They are very heavy, but it works for where i ride. My buddy runs the same size holshots on his bike and is very happy with them. Quote
