  1. Mains won't foul plugs, but pilots will....what size pilots are you running? have you tried adjusting the air screws? If so, where are they at from seated??
  2. Red, the mains go up in sizes of (10). Sweet, like red said, pull a plug and put the compression test in the plug hole, hold the throttle wide open, kick until the needle won't read any higher. let us know what you come up w/.....
  3. Those carbs are too big for your mods, I know that from experience. I had the same carbs....I was running 162 mains w/ 50 pilots...sounds like your pilots are too rich, not the mains , but do a wot run in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds and check the plugs for the mains....My carbs were also sent w/ 58 pilots and were way too big....Even after I got the jetting as best as I could, I was still 8hp down from stock carbs on the dyno...the carbs are just too big unless your dragging and doing a radical port job or stroker.....Good luck
  4. Its bogging on top end because you don't have the power to keep the motor in powerband w/ that gearing, but here is the thing. YOU SHOULD!!!! I've ran pc pipes w/ stock porting and stock carbs and had no problem running a 15t sprocket....Something is wrong. Do a plug check after running wide open in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down and pull the plugs. Tell us what color they are, then do a compression test and see where your at......
  5. Red hit it right on, you have to read the plugs, your shee will tell you what she wants....
  6. I'd start w/ a 170-175 for the mains, 50-52 pilots...
  7. Try raising the needles back up to the 3rd clip then....right now your at the 2nd clip from the blunt end right? Go back to the middle clip, stay w/ stock pilots...Do a plug check after running it wide open throttle in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds. pull over and check the plugs....white or tan is lean, brown is perfect, black is rich....might want to adjust air screws for throttle response....remember, the stock pipes don't pull very well on top end, so you can't expect much there... another set of pipes will REALLY wake it up on top and bottom w/ the right pipes..
  8. Agreed, go to 330-340 mains and do a plug check after running wide open throttle for 5-10 seconds. You plugs should be a dark brown, tan or white is too lean, and black is too rich...you could even try raising the needles all the way for the midrange...might give you that extra your looking for, if it sputters before powerband then lower the needles back to the 4th clip, but it might wake up on the low/mid....
  9. The mains only control wide open throttle, so if the low end got better, then your shee likes the leaner pilots.....I'd do a plug check at wot in 6th gear for the mains...only true way to tell..
  10. The other way around....175 for the summer...leaner=summer, richer=winter
  11. You might want to try raising them another notch...I've seen a lot of times, that you can gain just as much the second time as you just did this first time....Give it a try, it'll either like it, or sputter and not want to kick in, but you'll know...you might find some more unhidden power!!! Nature of the beast........depends on pipes and jetting....I can get most pipes to pull hard from the bottom. only some like T5's, CPI, PC,and Trinitys have no a very narrow powerband....
  12. True that...the -2 is like night and day..
  13. I've tried responding several different time, but flood control keeps coming up only on your topic, so heres my response.....Your shee might like a richer needle for the winter and maybe the summer if you haven't tried it...Raise the needles to richen it...one clip position makes huge differences on some pipes.. especially the fmf
  14. W/ lid on and no snorket, go w/ 270-280 mains, w/ no lid....290 mains for summer and 300 for winter....raise the needle one clip and try it...I'd stick w/ stock pilots and adjust the air screws for the best throttle response....go from there...
  15. Start w/ 185 and work down, better to start rich...
  16. I'll let you know in 2 weeks, if you don't hear from me, then pm me and I'll give you an update....
  17. W/ the right jetting and a fresh motor, you should be able to pull a taller gear then anyone else w/ high revs (like T5's) The 2 into 1 is a torque pipe which will pull harder, especially taller gears.....I'd check your compression, sounds to me,that your motor might be little tired and could be way down on compression....
  18. Spacers...No, you don't need them. Revving it up on a stand is useless. You need to put a load on the motor...the more of a load, the richer the settings....thats why I suggest 6th gear runs....If you can't do a plug test, then you could always do Benbb suggestions.. Run the largest main you can until it bogs, then drop 1-2 sizes...Rich is safe....
  19. Left side....some of the new shees both have the brass tube, but only one bowl has the little jet in the bottom of the bowl...It should be in the left carb...
  20. What do you have for air box mods?? sounds like your restricted. Is the lid on or off? Do you clean the k&N w/ detergents or K&N cleaner? do you still have the snorkel on the air box lid??
  21. Damn,,,,I was sooo close!!!!
  22. J-madd, I believe you have different mods though and yours was sputtering, not hesitating....am I wrong??
  23. exactly....raise the needles by lowering the clip on the needles to richen them.....leanness causes hesitation of the powerband. most of your riding is done in the needle range (1/4-3/4 throttle) so when you whack it, it takes a few seconds for the mixture in the lower end of the motor to clean out and get a richer mixture from the mains at wide open throttle....so its important to get all 3 stages dialed in to get the most power from the shee....Pilots/air screws, needles, mains......
