I need to get all mine out, but after hearing these stories, I think I'll pass.

I might be going to silver lake, since I won't be able to make it to coalfest. I'll prolly only be there saturday, though.

Ours is 1.99 in most places, but race fuel has'nt gone up at all.

WHen you're in 6th gear, the clutch hub is'nt spinning fast enough to cause the ball to weld -
Trying To Stop Pulling In The Clutch And Coasting
blk02banshee replied to nickxc's topic in General Banshee Discussion
It's ok to coast, as long as you're in the right gear for the speed you are coasting. Just remember, the lower the gear, the faster the clutch hub is turning. The faster it turns, the more friction and heat is created. -
Nightrider, I agree about the second gear starts and like you, I just use first to get the quad in motion, and go to second quick. I have pretty much the same mods as you, except for the advanced timing and milled head, which I don't think really affects jetting too much. I'm just 2 sizes up from where you're at on the mains, so that's where I'm gonna start. I jetted it for the extreme cold this winter and never had a chance to change it back. I was at 320 last summer, but I think I'm gonna try the 310s and see how that is. Unfortunately, I'm working long hours and have to drive back and forth to PA the next 2 weekends, and also have to find time to rip the transmission out of my truck, get it rebuilt, and put it back in, as well as replace the entire exaust system. I might not even get time to look at, let alone ride my banshee anytime soon .

Is it normal for them to wear and loosen up like that, or is it just because they're exposed to so much dust and dirt and sand and shit? There's gotta be some way to seal them up with some kind of boot.

LOL I know where those are made Right here in town. I have friends that work there. http://aurorabearing.com/

That's awsome! I seen them a few times on TV. When I was a kid, I had dozens of lawn tractors that I modified. Some of them were pretty fast. I rode them all over the place, like transportation, lol. I just wish I knew about lawn tractor racing back when I was 9.

That prolly was'nt the tank, just a cover that looks like a tank, and it prolly killed him or almost killed him. A blast like that could easily rip his heart loose.

clutch is like new. I've been working so many hours, I have'nt had a chance to look at it and figure out what's wrong, yet. When I get a chance, I'm gonna gheck my compression. It could be low, being that it does have some hours on it, and well over 100 gallons of fuel run through it. It still feels like it's got good compression in the kicker, but I'm gonna throw a guage on it. I have noticed lately it takes 3-4 kicks to start when cold, where it used to be 1-2. I know my jetting is rich, too, so that's definately part of the problem. Other than that, I think I need to try lower gearing. ....or maybe a stroker crank and porting

I'm with oldturtle...sounds very lean on the low end, which could be a plugged pilot or an air leak. if it sits long enough, the gas can evaporate, leaving mostly oil, which will also make it act like that.

I'm a GMC guy, but honestly, I say go for the ford. As far as NEW trucks go, the fords are very tough trucks.

good reply abyss. Sugar magic- We used to call it a lot of things. my favorite was ..george. get on the phone and say "hey man, I need to talk to george". also potatos, "you got any potatos you could spare". when looking for a quarter, sometimes we'd say "hey dude, I need a quart of oil" or for a half O " I need 2 quarts" We've smoked out of pop cans, 1/4 drive sockets, pens, we made bongs out of flashlights, PVC pipes, vases, and my favorite was ceramic teddy bear bank, lol. Man, this brings back some memories

420 is from a california highschool. back in the 60s, the school got out around 4 something and smokers would meet at a certain spot at 4:20 to get high. Some of them became hippies and deadheads and it became a term the deadheads used on the road while following the grateful dead, to refer to smoking weed. "Hey man, I think it's 4:20" They'd even have 4:20 painted on their VW vans and beetles so other smokers hitching a ride would know they were in the right vehicle lol. And thats a fact.

It probably needs the premix to lube the bottom end, because if they had a wet sump crankcase, it would make it a heavier engine.

I'm going to check compression, get my jetting dialed in, and change my gearing to make up for the tires. I know how to ride and shift very good, but I have to admit my launches are'nt the greatest, so obviously I need to work on that, but even when I got good starts, I still was'nt beating them. The one time that I was doing pretty good, was at silver lake down by the beach, and I was only getting beaten by other banshees that were'nt anywhere near stock, so I think traction might be the biggest factor.
-
You saying I can't ride? lmao, just kidding. I'm sure I'm not the best rider, but I have almost 20 years experience under my belt, and so do my friends, and we kept trading quads and the results were always about the same.

It would'nt be old posts. It could be similar to how it is now, but have just a couple sections open to the general public to read, post and ask questions, and have the rest by subscription only.
-
Yeah, but don't make it an exclusive site where no one can join unless they pay. We want new people to come. Maybe only charge people who post, but anyone can read. That's a good idea. Make it readable for everyone, but have to pay to be a member with posting priveleges. But you don't want people to have that old "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free". The site would only have a handful of paying members. Maybe it should have like a "sample forum" that anyone could join, and then have an exlusive area with a membership fee for the die hard banshee people.

Whats A Good Price To Pay For This Site?
blk02banshee replied to got1banshee's topic in General Banshee Discussion
shit, I'd pay $100 a year. That's roughly $8 a month....chump change, when you think about all the info that is here, and that's nothing compared to what we spend in FUEL . IF it came down to a pay subscription, I don't care what it is...I'd pay it. knowledge is priceless. -
I've tried 2nd gear launches, but I think I'm too heavy lmao. Maybe I could do it if I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket. I'm running holeshot XCs for tires, and they're a little taller than the stockers. I was throwing a shitload more roost than the other guys, so I'm sure traction had something to do with it, but something still ain't right. I'm gonna rejet this week if I have time. I'm at 330 mains right now, and after a day of riding, my plugs are very dark, but not wet and they don't foul. Both plugs look identical, which is good, and it pulls very hard on the top at WFO. I think I'll try dropping my needles 1 clip, and if it runs any better, I'll do a plug chop and see how rich the mains really are. Top end seems great and takeoff from a stop is good, but in between it seems like it struggles a little to get on the pipes. That's why I'm thinking needles. When I put in the V-force reeds, I had to go down with the pilots, but I left the needles in the stock position, so maybe they needed to be leaned out too??? I'm definately gonna do a compression test and see where that's at, and then play with my jetting. I'm definately doing porting when I freshen it up and maybe even a stroker crank, since I gotta take the crank out to weld it anyway .

I went riding yesterday, and drag raced my friends across a field about 20 times and never won . I raced a geared stock raptor, stock 400ex, and piped predator. The raptor was about dead even, the 400 was even until I hit 6th, and the predator just smoked me. I thought it was a weight difference, as I am 250 and my friends are in the 150-170 range, so we kept switching quads and racing, and switching and racing, and the results were always about the same. WTF I have PC pipes, pro design filter, and V-force reeds. I thought maybe I was rich, because it was about 80 degrees and I never jetted back down from my winter jetting, but it pulled too hard and clean on the top end. No bog, no sputtering, no fouled plugs. Maybe I just need to get them on pavement, lol, but I hate using that. It's a lame excuse. Anyone have any thoughts?

What If You Do Not Use The Clutch
blk02banshee replied to xt45's topic in General Banshee Discussion
if everything is timed right...nothing. I just think it's harder on the transmission, so I use mine. -
This is the best site in the world. I'd pay a membership fee in a second!
