Welcome to BHQ !! Nothing piston wise will help with bottom end. Milled head or cool head will. Go with wiesco pistons. Different reeds may also help bottom. Never going to get much bottom from a Banshee!!

Glad you're not taking it to hard. Were you're plugs wet with coolant? Might want to have head checked for flatness cause it might have warped , and it will just blow out again if it is. Welcome to 820!! Sometimes kindda crazy around here.

Welcome to BHQ !!X-2 on Clymers manual , best $30 you will ever spend. Grease every thing, lube cables, change tranny oil. Inspect for worn suspension f&r, bushings etc.

Welcome to BHQ !! Sorry we all didn't bow down and kiss your ass quickly , some people have a life , like riding their shee , father's day. Try having a LITTLE paitience , this isn't BANSHEE 911 !! Also try the search function ,and try reading threads , you will learn a lot , maybe more than answers to your problem. Also get a Clymers manual , lots of information on how to repair Banshees in case us slow fucks are busy.

Auto zone or other auto parts might have tester on tool loaner program. BTW , pull both plugs ,it'll make it a little easier for test , pluss you have to do both cyls anyhow. Gas off , key off, throttle wfo , kick like mo-fo , lol . BTW, good morning , glad to see your at it early.

School us less knowledgable on how a slipping clutch would cause hard shifting? Especially because it's not a consistant problem. Plus with an override isn't he not even using the clutch to shift?

Definatly clean carbs. Do one at a time to avoid mixing parts , they're different. I would pull intake boots and reeds to make sure they're clean. Inspect boots for cracking/rips. If you find any dirt / dust past reeds your effed, complete teardown coming. Don't run it till you completely inspect both intakes all the way to the pistons.

The pick-up are two nubs on outside of flywheel, pick-up coil is located at 5o'clock. Little square with two wires. Line nub w/ p-u coil, gap between them should be .016 - .018 or thickness of business card. Might want to get a Clymers manual, makes life a lot easier working on shee.

Clean carbs one at a time to avoid mixing parts, make sure choke tube between carbs is good and in place. Oils and mix ratios will get you dozens of answers ,lol. Banshees are notorious for hard to find neutral , just make sure clutch is adjusted good, maybe search shift star and shift shaft mods , I think those help with that.

Internet ate my first answer ,lol . Did you have cases apart? Might not have gotten enough Yamabond on. Maybr try re-tourqing case bolts in proper order.

Thats nice looking. Crazy how these get detailed out. I was going to suggest sanding rolls that go on a little stick type mandral , I've always called them "tootsie rolls". Don't know if H.F. has them. Not the same as sanding drums.

Clean and lube throttle and cable. Clean carbs.

Personaly have not cut one open (yet), subject was brought up month or so ago. Other poster mentioned it was somewhat popular mod at one time. they do have internal baffels plus double wall design. Once I get my son's shee up and running I'm going to cut the stockers open for shits and giggles. Just got a small wire welder for free so I'm set for re-weld. Probably lot of work for minumal gain who knows. Plus O.P. , you can bore carbs out to 28mm

Your mechanic would have noticed any water/coolant when he had clutch cover off. Can't be water pump. Maybe someone else will come up with an answer.

You haven't mentioned what "rules" they have at the fair grounds. "IF" it stated 'stock' exhaust you would be limited to cutting them apart and gutting them , =time+$ . You're up against the wall with stock exhaust. Work on traction/set-up and practice. Look into different tires.

Try pulling plugs , put it neutral, turn engine by flywheel checking for any noise or rough spots in rotation. It makes the nois ideling in neutral , not moving?

With any luck that silver will come off easy.

You asked for detail . Even identical machines might have slightly different tuning requirements.

First welcome to BHQ !! Second ,Buy repair manual . Pull stator cover , look for something rubbing flywheel. Is flywheel tight? Try wiggleing flywheel to check for bad brg. Report back with what you find or don't find. Maybe get proper puller, remove flywheel and look for something loose inside. DO NOT use jaw puller or hammer and pry bar ,or you'll be buying a new flywheel.

If you can't find it in Mayville , it must be in his garage .
