  1. I wouldnt tear anything down till you did a compression test. Just screw the tester in 1 plug hole at a time by hand per the instructions, kick it over while holding the throttle wide open until the psi wont go up any higher, usualy 15-20 kicks. If the cylinders are over 110 psi each, and not more than 5 psi difference between the two i wouldnt do a rebuild
  2. First don't let that dude do it sounds like a ripoff artist. Get a cheap autozone tester and make sure that the psi is really that low. What needs replaced depends on what's wrong. 700 even with parts is super outrageous. Are u anywhere near Cincinnati? Shoot for a top end rebuild I would charge 100+parts. For700 you could rebuild the crank and top end and it could be something simple as a hone and rings
  3. 230 is going to be lean imo. I would try at least a 250 or 260 main.
  4. Im about the same elevation as you. I have had a bunch of bikes with just about the same mods. This is what is spot on for me. 270-280 main without airbox and 260ish with. 27.5 pilot 1 turn out in air screw. I think it will run ok with 300 main but you will probably make more power down near 280 As for the low end bogging, try riding with the air screw 1/2 turn out, then 3 turns out,see wich one is better. If it runs better at 1/2 turn your lean on the pilot. If it runs better at 3 your rich on the pilot.
  5. Not to jack the thread, but im running cheaper oil in my trail/mildly modded bikes. If i was running an expensive drag setup,or alcohol or something i would run better oil
  6. more compression/timing if you havent already done it
  7. Add some bigger carbs to that list. If i were trail riding i wouldnt run a lockup, but you will need a beefy clutch to handle it.
  8. i got sick of paying 11-12 bucks a quart for klotz so i just started running hp2 and yamalube.
  9. lets see here,compression/weak spark/dirty carbs/dirty air filter/air leak/bad ground/choke tube unhooked ect
  10. 240 mains rich? I doubt that unless your at like 10k elevation. You should be around 270-290 with the lid off. Your going to have to touch it when it overheats and explodes.
  11. Its really going to be tough without porting. We have three banshees 2 unported with similar mods as yours, and one ported. And we have a 2007 yfz450 with no cork in the pipe, and the airbox lid off. Our yfz will beet our unported banshees just about every time.
  12. If its bone stock i would get some pipes.
  13. Its really not desperation, its easy. Me and my bro in law both had old banshees with no titles(an 87' and a 92') and needed state stickers to ride here in ohio. They said we could get stickers if we had titles or bills of sale. So we got 2 forms from the dmv,had them notarized like we sold them to eachother and presto now we have state stickers. But lost title deal would probably be easier
  14. I had this same situation almost. Someone dropped off a crank and cylinder for an lt250r at my local honda shop,to have the crank rebuilt and cylinder bored, and never came back to get it. It had been 90 days and they said in kentucky they had the right to sell it to cover their costs after a certain period of time. So i ended up getting the parts dirt cheap. There are several lawyers near me that either have free or 50 dollar consultations. If i were you i would talk to one so you know your in the exact paramaters of the law. They could tell you everything. If you dont document it,and they guy gets pissed he could report it stolen or something. Im willing to bet by law it belongs to you,but i bet theres a step you have to take to make it official.
  15. Make sure you have the slides in the correct carbs, you can get them backwards. Check the choke tube between the carbs-little black hose that goes between the two carbs. Check all your carb settings. Im willing to bet its something simple.
  16. Depending heavily on mods and elevation,i run a bike with fmf gnarlies,a coolhead,pods and +4 timing,and i only need a 280 main.
  17. I have never had heat issues with any of my bikes, but the one with the aftermarket radiator doesnt overheat either lol!
  18. Buy a cheap autozone tester. Remove one plug and screw the tester in,only hand tighten it. Make sure you hold the throttle wide open, give it 10-15 good kicks, but i always kick until it wont go higher. On a stockish shee 135ish is stock 110 and up is ok. Cylinders should be withint 5 psi of eachother.
  19. Can you be more specific with "kit"
  20. I actualy ran some 2 stroke oil from a gas station once for a whole weekend, when we forgot to buy some. Only bad thing that happened was fouling a plug.
  21. Without porting at my elevation 320 is WAY rich i would have mine at about 280-290,with a stock pilot. Air screw about 1 and 1/2. For the idle bogg try your air screws at 3 turns out and 1/2 a turn out see wich works better. If 1/2 turn works better your lean on your pilot,if 3 turns works better your rich. You could also pull the choke out halfway,if it clears up then your lean on pilot, gets way worse you could be rich on the pilot If your fouling plugs fast im betting your rich.
