your local guy is full of shit.. drag port it and you will hate trail riding it.. trust me.... if you have the money, go with a 4 mill longrod setup with a good woods port to match the 4 mill crank, a 2 into 1 carb, and maybe a set of toomey t5's or pro circuits.. cpi's are more of a drag pipe.. get a timing plate, and a cool head to raise the compression.. talk with a builder and they can put together one kickass combo for you.. F.A.S.T racing, passion racing, or HERR JUGGS RACING... those are some reputable builders
