  1. I bought mine off a dude on Ebay for $450. He said I'd have them in 2 weeks and sure enough, they were at my house in exactly two weeks. I put them on Wednesday and I can't wait to try them out tomorrow. You can actually get them straight from Elka for $450, but the dude on Ebay gives you free shipping and outerwears.
  2. I did the same as you. It turns out I needed to go leaner. Check your plugs WOT. I went from a 175 all the way 220 only to find the 175 was just right. That was before I properly knew how to do a WOT plug check.
  3. I've never owned a 2-1 pipe so I'm just shooting theory. The Banshee's biggest advantages are acceleration and overall speed. Going with a 2-1 pipe may give you more bottom but it will take away from the straightaways. I would say get midrange pipes and go with a single carb. The single carb will give you more control over the power with some more bottomend to boot.
  4. My Outerwear got a hole burned in it once but that was my fault. The filter's mount is off-center so you can adjust it to where it isn't hitting the pipes.
  5. You may still be lean on the pilots. You may want to try 30s. I never ran higher than 25s on mine, but I don't have nearly as much done as you. If that doesn't help, it has to be your needles. Just try going one clip richer, see if helps. If not, go one clip leaner.
  6. I have a DEL needle. It's just for fine tuning your jetting. I wouldn't worry about it, expecially if it's running good.
  7. Anyone have details on setting up a helmet cam?
  8. That's hitting the nail on the head. Especially in sand. On asphalt low gearing may help in a short distance, but it's too much torque for sand. I had a 13 front when I got the bike and it would wheely easy but sucked in sand. I'm not sure about not being able to wheely. I'm running about the same gearing as you and can easily pull it up in 4th or 5th. I know I'm pushing more power, but even stock you should be able to get it up in 3rd I would think.
  9. 93 Have you smelled nitro race fuel for RC cars? It's a blend of castor oil, Nitromethanol and Alcohol. That is some sweet smelling stuff! I'd run my truck around in the house if the wife would let me.
  10. A guy I commonly ride with has a Banshee and has lost his left leg. He had some other friends run his shift lever to the right side of the motor and moved the rear brake further to the right. He never really complains and can keep up with me in the trails. I would see the advantage of him having an electric start.
  11. They were $40? I talked to Yann and he said they were $70.
  12. For that type of riding the Banshee would benefit from some mods where the YFZ450 or Raptor are ready to go. I would recommend the Raptor for trails and stuff for the reverse, but if you want to lead the pack get the 450. I love my Banshee but it takes a lot to make one stable.
  13. Well that settles it. I didn't really think about the increased leverage with wider arms killing stock shocks. I've never bottomed them out but I guess it would happen if I went wider. Thanks Sredish for the info on the springs. I didn't really want to get them setup for +2 on stock arms. Seems like that would make it a rough ride. Thanks for help everyone!
  14. 195
  15. I really thought about those YFZ shocks but Elkas are $450 and supposed to be a lot better. How much does revalving generally cost? If I get the shocks, I won't be able to get some arms for a while.
  16. I just got a bonus check at work so I have enough money to get 1 of the following: 1. Elka shocks without rezzies (still have stock now) 2. +2+1 a-arms (still stock now) 3. Black fenders (my stock purple are looking pretty bad) My main question is which show a more drastic improvement, shocks or arms. I'm going to try to start racing next year so the fenders may have to wait. However, if I got the fenders I'd probably have enough left over for a shaved head. Thanks for the opinions!
  17. Maybe I should have stayed awake in Chemistry class. I ran out of my PJ1 filter cleaner so I sprayed my filters (inner and outer) with WD40. The stuff seems to make grease run off stuff on my quad, why not the filter... After soaking a few minutes I brought it inside and put them in the sink and filled it with hot, soapy water... just like I always do. Well, the dirt came out of the filter in this sort of gooey gel form which was extremely sticky. I brought one of the filters outside and doused it in gas. Instead of helping matters it just made a bigger mess in the sink. Now my filters are gooey, the sink is a mess, and the house smells like gas. Moral of this story is don't mess with chemicals. I'll be stopping by to get some filter cleaner tomorrow.
  18. Yeah, I definately like the chrome better. That looks sick! I'm going to go with black. It oughta look mad sexy on my quad. I'll definately be getting race cut fenders too. Me and my buddies were riding some gravel roads today and there was one steep part in the road where we could catch some air hauling ass. Dude on the 450r looked like he was pinned and only was barely getting the rear tires off the ground. So I thought let me try it! I was either 5th or 6th pinned, flew over the hill. As soon as I topped the other side the wind caught my dumbo ears and I was looking at the sky. I landed on one rear tire about 50 feet away. So I made another run making sure to put my weight on the front of the bike and sure enough it still stood up with me, I just didn't jump as far. The parachutes gotta go!
  19. Welcome to the mighty HQ! You should be able to get the jets from any local motorcycle shop although they may have to order them. Should run you about $5 per jet. I never had to go higher on my pilots when I had duals but that may have just been my quad. It won't hurt anything to try bigger pilots, but I think maybe your needle clips might be one notch off.
  20. Ya'll are probably right about the 450. That's jumping way out of my price range though. If I dumped $2500 in the Shee it would be the shiznit. There are no dunes around here so we mainly do trails and fireroads. I just set foot on my first MX track last Saturday and I fell in love. I was hitting doubles I didn't ever think I'd have the guts to. We're supposed to start racing the first of the year. I guess I'll be asking for performance parts for Christmas. The Outlaw frame uses almost everything from a 250r so I guess the answer to the $ question is how much you can get 250r parts for. I wish I could talk my wife into letting me add that R to the garage... but she wants a damn utility.
  21. I've got a habit of wanting the best. That conflicts with my limited income. Then again I don't think the 250r would be the best... I'm thinking Banshee Lonestar Outlaw chassis...
  22. I love my Shee. I've finally got it tuned in just right and I feel comfortable on it. I'm about to start racing pretty soon and was talking to a friend about it last night. In the near future I need to get some shocks, a steering stabilizer, and nerfs to be competitive. He mentioned that before I throw all that money into it I should maybe consider getting a 250r. I might know someone that has one for sale for $2500. I'm a man with VERY limited cash so if I got the R I wouldn't have any money to fix the Shee up and might even have to sell it. The 250r is stock+pipe by the way.
  23. I was going to create a poll for this, but I don't see the option. Oh well... YFZ450 shocks are available from about $200-$250 where Elka no-rez are $450-up. I have a couple questions... 1. Which shocks perform better? 2. Which ones provide more bang for your buck? Shocks are a big purchase that I don't want to make more than once. Thanks.
  24. I've owned 1 Banshee and had a CDI go out.
  25. I have the '95 purple/yellow combo. I'm looking to do away with the purple and get black or blue. I think Black will definately look the best but I want it to keep looking good. Does black show scratches worse than other colors?
