Yeah, I looked at the wire caddy. A couple things on the bike already have GM weather pak connectors but I have been sure it's time to just re wire it and if I can make my own harness for less I will
You are over thinking and it's not gonna save you a buck if that is your intention. Yfz carb is a terrible choice and it won't work. Stay away from 4 stroke carb set ups. As for used dirt bike carbs, any keihin or mikuni two stroke carb properly sized is fine. The keihin stuff is the least work and quite simple to learn. PWK is best, the Pj is nice as well but a little more fussy with humidity.
^ yeah! What he said.
On a serious note. Don't bother the coolant unless you expect 40 below. I would consider some detailing and lubing of every moving part, drain the fuel from the carbs and tank. Dielectric grease on the connectors, some lube down the plug holes and get it in the air off the tires.
Oh, some bolt ons and gearing can get ya there. 14-39 gearing, exhaust, pod filters, head rechambered or cool head, timing plate, carbs(good used ones pop up all the time cheap.)
Weak spark, just spits and burps when ya kick it. Recently did a freshen up and it doesn't wanna fire. I just went through some of it last winter now it's jankin again. Been through most of the usual test and checking of stuff. Even swapped some parts. CDI and my old butchered harness are the last two variables. Jus hoping to find someone with a nice spare I can buy.
Been going through my bike and have a new electrical issue I can't figure out so I think it's time to just re wire it all and do a heavy duty ground. Any one in michigan have a spare 97+ harness and CDI I could come buy this weekend?
Wayne and Stephan tried to make this work for the TSS 500 ordeal. It was a cool idea, but not a reliable one. But sure give it a go. Problem is, FCR's are not cheaper then a 35/39 PWK or 38PJ that's for sure. As for even attempting to jet it, you would be on your own. There are none around and there is zero info on making it work so if you aren't already blessed in the mechanical department, you would probably be screwed. Good luck.
Some AMA others are local organizations. Honestly the AMA is horrible here. No planning, no orginization on race day so there is mass confusion between track side staff and the booth.
I probably shouldn't say that the rockets really "pull more" gear on my bike, but they allow the bike to work through the taller gear on the tighter stuff. For instance on a 1/8 mile oval, I run the same sprockets as I do on there for 1/2 mile tracks. Now if I leave the shearers on I have to down shift from 5th to third to come out of the turn to keep it from falling on its face. Same set up with rockets I can just drop it to 4th and lay on it and it powers right out of the turn. So if you relate that type of load to a trail bike, that would mean you could still run steep gearing for top end bursts in the field but still be able to lug the bike in the woods.
Yes they will do exactley that. But eventually the big tracks need a bit of over rev. The problem in D14 is every time you show up to a race they are never the same size track. So this season I am bringing the rockets and shearers to every race.
