Question for you people with diesel in freezing temps
Dinner replied to Bansh-eman's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Yea i remember looking at a picture of the Connecting Rods of all three Diesel's, Can't go wrong with a Cummins. And as Samdust said, Dodge's bodies arn't the greatest, but i havnt had a problem with their interiors though either. Some people get lucky, other's do not. A lot of people say the Automatic tranny in the Dodges suck, and can go fairly early. I know we don't have that many km on our truck but we have over 275,000km and the tranny is still good. But at least they upgraded the trannies in the new 07+ trucks, the new Aisin trannies look sweet, they are suppose to be better than the Allison  -
Question for you people with diesel in freezing temps
Dinner replied to Bansh-eman's topic in General Banshee Discussion
He is basically saying that Adding little amounts of Unleaded Gas to his tank of Diesel, creates near the same affects as adding No.1 Diesel to No.2 Diesel. Generally the cloud point is 5F-10F with No.2 Diesel, adding a slight amount of No.1 reduces the cloud point by 5 degrees F, making the fuel loss "cloggy" at those temperatures. But since you are not driving in that cold of weather, no need to worry. Besides, doing this makes your fuel less lubricant, and could damage our fuel system due to the lack of lubrication. I also think it's stupid that the newer diesels(07 and up) are being required to run ULSD, instead of the regular LSD. But that is IMO... Dinner -

Are you talking about the ULSD fuel that is popping up at the pumps? If you are worried about gelling, go out and buy some additives for your truck, that reduce gelling, clean injectors and boost cetane levels. It's better to boost cetane levels when it's cold out anyways. -

Question for you people with diesel in freezing temps

Don't worry, your 06 Cummins will not freeze and crack the block. Maybe if it was on old 53 Block and it was very very cold, but those are in the 2nd gen Dodge Cummins. Your Grid Heater will work great in the 0-10 degree weather you will be seeing. When i used to work at a ski hill, some nights we would see -43 degree weather, yea i plugged it in those nights ovbiously, because at those temps you are basically screwed. You have nothing to worry about, the most your truck will do is dime the lights a little while the truck is running because the Grid Heater draws a lot of amps, so it dimes your lights. And in my opinion, the Grid Heater on the Cummins are better designs than the Glow Plugs. Shit, your Grid Heater wont even have to run that long at 0-10 degree weather :yelrotflmao: -
I went about and made this for you BigRed, make it a little easier for people to get the picture. Not sure if these are the colours you wanted. I did these up pretty quick so you can tell they are adobe'd :yelrotflmao: Red: Candy Blue: Candy Green: Maybe these will help, I personally think a darker blue would look pretty cool  Dinner

Ford and GM Diesels both us Glow Plug's to heat the air in each cylinder, while Dodge has a Grid Heater in the Air Horn that heat's the incoming air, and will shut off once the engine reaches a certain temperature. As said above the never diesels are even better for starting in cold weather, but even still the older generations are good too. If it is not too cold out, let's say -5 to -10, you can still start your truck, though it may take a few cycles of the grid heaters, or glow plugs. If it get's colder out though, then you can plug your truck in(this is the block heater mentioned above). You plug it in through an extension cord, and it heats the block. My truck already has a block heater built in, so the little cord to plug it in is found on the passenger side, right under the front grill. The best thing to do is right after you shut your truck off, plug it in. Since the block is already warm, it is easier on the block heater to keep the engine warm, rather than bringing it up to temp, and then keeping it warm. It was -10 the other day and my truck started on the 2nd crank, wasn't pluged in. Today it was -5 out, inch layer of ice on the truck(stupid freezing rain) and it started first crank(waited for grid heater). So usually you can go pretty low in temperature with Diesel's. Hope this help's  Dinner -
Just wondering what length of swinger would do me good? I ride mostly gravel pits(hills) and roads, with the rare trail ride. I have always liked the looks of +2, +4 swingarms, and they I'm guessing they would soot me better for fast hill climbs? But i'm wondering if a -2 swinger or something would be better since of the traction, or would a +2, +4 swinger do fairly well for traction? Any info would be great! Thanks  Dinner

True, I'v had mine for a good while now and they still have the little strip of rubber in the middle from when they were made

I did my plastics back in the summer. I didn't take out every single scratch because i got too rammy and just painted it after sanding it a few times. As said above, as long as you take your time, and remove all the scratches, it will look very good. Here are some pics of my progress  (With Old Pipes^^)

Here's my fenders since the last pic...Fronts are the same, but changed the rears.

Thanks Guys I think i might get some new bars as well, because the ones i have right now don't have enough length for the grip, throttle, front brake to sit on there nicely, especially if i get hand guards :: So i think when i get some new handle bars ill get some hand guards as well, still not sure what kind though Dinner

Maybe Lee has been caught up in adding the new Topics to our forums, takes a bit to get all the bugs worked out  Dinner

Just wondering what kind of handguards everyone is running out there? I'm thinking about buying some for my banshee and I just want to see what is out there. And if you have pics of them that would be great  Thanks Dinner

I got tired of having the two nuts coming loose all the time, so i tightened the crap out of them, then wrapped electrical tape around the two nuts and the sprocket hub. I have had it like this for months now and they haven't moved. Dinner
