Welcome to the HQ  J-arm frame is talking about the upper J-Arms of the front end. Instead of the upper arm being like the bottom A-arm, it is just one bent(looks like a j) arm.

He cut the threads off with a hack saw to see how his jetting is.

Thanks for clearing that up. I knew you could order them with ever engine you wanted a little while ago, but probably since they are now being produced for late 07/early 08 they will only have the 6.7 Another thing FireHead, is you will have the option of 4.10 gears or 3.73's. Even with the 4.10's you can still run 70 mph at just around 2,000 rpms, with the 3.73's 70 mph comes in at about 1,775 rpms, whcih should help out on fuel economy.

If you read my EDIT, I put that the Aisin is available only in the Cab and Chasis Versions. So you will not have to worry about what tranny you have, you will have the 68rfe tranny, 6 speed automatic, with the +/- buttons allowing you to shift up or down when you please in tow/haul mode. And another thing for the option of the 5.9 or the 6.7 Cummins, you will have to ask your dealer, because I am not 100% about whether or not you will have the option of both. For the Exhaust Brake, restriction is created in the exhaust system during the coasting condition. This increases pressure in the exhaust manifold, slowing the pistons during the exhaust cycle when the exhaust valves are open. This produces improved retarding power that helps slow the vehicle. The Exhaust Brake produces a backpressure somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 psi, resulting in enhanced retarding power. So if you are towing along, and normally when you are coming down a gradient, you let off the throttle. So if you are in 6th gear coasting, the exhaust brake wont be doing much. But if you shift down to 5th, and since he rev's are a lot higher, the exhaust brake will "kick in" harder and slow down the engine. This is also another feature I like: The Exhaust Brake will enable the engine to reach normal coolant operating temperatures twice as quickly at idle. By closing the Exhaust Brake at idle, backpressure is increased and the result in a higher load on the engine. This creates more heat to more quickly increase coolant temperature. In very cold climates, such as in Alaska, coolant temperatures may not typically be high enough to open the coolant system thermostat. Under these conditions, using the Exhaust Brake for idle warm-up will result in higher idle coolant temperatures than are possible without the Exhaust Brake.

It should say on the little piece of paper on the window what tranny it has in it. If not, then you should be able to look onto the gear selector and see + and - on it. This will tell you that it is an 68rfe tranny, if there is no +, - buttons on the gear selector, then it is probably a Aisin. Are you wondering how the Exhaust Brake works in tow/haul mode? Forgot to say: But since you are not looking at a C&C Dodge, you will have the 68rfe tranny
-
Yup, you should have the choice between the 5.9 and the 6.7 Cummins  Are you looking at a 2500 or 3500?
-
Yea so you will be looking at 350HP and 650 Torque(if you get the 6.7). There are two different types of tranny's you are able to get with the new 6.7's as well. There is the 68rfe and the new Aisin. With the 68rfe in tow/haul mode it does not automatically downshift for you, you have to manually downshift it with the gear selector switch on the gear shift. The 68rfe will run in 6th gear in Tow/Haul, the Aisin will not. The Aisin doesn't have the manual shift option, but it does shift down on its own in tow haul.

Navistar(International) is producing 40% of Fords Engines, well was. Navistar was producing the 6.0L and the new 6.4L for Ford. But Ford and Navistar are having problems with eachother. Navistar was making the warranty costs for their engines too high, and having the warranty's go on for longer or something like this. Due to this, and since most 6.0L suck, Ford did not liking having to pay for all these repairs. So Ford decided to file a lawsuit against Navistar. And since they are still having a pissing match with each other. Navistar has stopped sending their engines to Ford right now(6.4L), so this is obviously a bad thing for Ford.

Couldn't edit my last post Another thing I like about the new Cummins is the Variable Geometry Turbo, which works great for normal driving around,or hauling. The new Ford's are not a Twin Turbo set up, they are only a sequential turbo set up. And the new 6.4L Fords still only has 10 bolts for the head  So as long as you stay away from Ford
-
The new 6.7 Cummins have 2 different versions. In the 3500 Cab/Chasis version the power output is 305HP and 610 torque. In all the other models(3500 Crew Cab, everything else) is 350HP/650 Torque.....

The grade-braking feature's primary purpose is to utilize engine braking to slow a heavy vehicle on steep grades in order to reduce wear on the traditional braking system. The method used to slow the vehicle is by overriding the PRNDL position, effectively pre-selecting the next lower gear range automatically. Because the transmission is electronically controlled and there is no mechanical linkage that needs to be moved for a pre-select downshift, implementation of this feature can be done completely in software with no hardware modifications. This control feature takes into consideration several factors before commanding a pre-select downshift. These are the primary inputs to the Transmission Control Module (TCM): # Throttle position # (Service) Brake state # Vehicle acceleration/deceleration # Grade/Load # Vehicle speed These factors are continually calculated to determine when a preselect downshift is commanded. Figured this might help you out  Just sitting here thinking.. Couldn't you just do this with the new Aisin transmission(3500 models) but instead of the transmission doing it for you, you could simply click the (-) button to shift the transmission to the next lowest gear. Allowing the Exhaust Brake to kick in and slowing you down easily. Just a thought...
-
lol Yea it's an exhaust brake. Oh ok, so basically the same as the Cummins.
-
The new Aisin's are 6 speed's as well...And isn't the new GMC's towing capacities 12,000Lbs?
-
Just curious as to what numbers your Chev is putting out  I would personally go with the 2500/3500 Cummins. The new Ford's with the Stock Twin Turbo set up is to just get those things running in the Emission "lines", while still making the 350 HP/650 ft lbs of the Cummins. I doubt you will have many problems with the new Cummins as well. Ford is possibly suing Navistar due to this, and now Navistar has stopped shipping their engines to Ford. And if you are planning to do some towing, the new Aisin transmissions along with the Cummins, and the exhaust brake are very nice features, and work very well with each other. Same with the new + and - feature of the Aisin Tranny just like the Chev's, that's nice to have as well.

Yea that's what I've heard with the 450's. But if my friends start getting stuff for their 450's, I guess I'll start getting more stuff for mine, lol jk. It was pretty fun though, never had the front end lift up on me while dragging, never had enough power to do so unless I just dropped the clutch :ermm: A couple of times she came up on me too much and so I had to let off and would be in last. But would usually catch up to get 2nd(out of 3). Took her out last night during the colder air and holy crap did she pull even better. Wouldn't even have to lean into it and the front end would lift off the ground. So I am very happy with my own little port job

Didn't have a video camera, friends parents took it away on a trip  So we we're unable to get a vid
-
Well it turns out my friend's parents decided to take the video camera with them this weekend So we had nothing to tape it with. But I did however beat him, lol. He went onto the shoulder of the road and tried it out(we didnt race) and it was soft and mushy so he came onto the pavement. Got one of my other friends to wave us down. He would beat me off the line cause i would bog it down(my bad, lol) but then once in 2nd and 3rd I would go past him. We did it a couple more times, and then after he came up to me and said "I think I'm going to give up now", so I nodded. My two other friends with a 450ER(jetted, No Airbox, Baffles remvoed) and a 250R trike with some good work done to it draged me. With Boyd, I'm not too sure how much I beat him, but it was usually 2+ quad lengths according to the guys. So let's just say that my port job I did myself has worked for me and I'm the fastest in my area
-
Thanks Guys Yea it looks like you turn it clockwise to advance it. I'll just have to get a rough estimate of how much to turn it,lol
-
Yea, but I have already bought another stock one($10) and so I mise well drill it myself. What way to you turn it to advance it 4 degrees?
-
Thanks Guys Yea I was over at the shop this afternoon painting the tank shroud, and cleaning a few more things up, checking things over(getting ready for this season). And so I'm leaving my friends place when his sister is standing there. So i role down my window..yes? Boyde(When he talks about it he says 450R, so im not sure what year it is) wants to know if you want to race tonight. I'm like well I'm heading out for supper right now, if he is here and we have time after we milk and before we go out I suppose we could try. So Monique goes and tells her other sister(Boyde kids gf) and I head home. I kinda want to get this done cause he won't shut up. He keeps going on about how he can do anything with his 450R, how it out powers anything out there, etc. I'm really hoping I win(same with all my friends) cause they are tired of it as well. He even goes on about how is 450R is better than my one friends 250R trike all pimped out, has over $5000 into it. So hopefully I'll teach that 450 a lesson

I thought I have read a couple of times that people have drilled out their stock timing plates to advance their timing? I have just purchased a new stock timing plate(for cheap no worries) and I have been thinking about drilling it out myself. Ovbiously you can't go too much cause it will weaken the "bracing" of the timing plate. But I was wondering how much are you able to drill, and which way do you turn it to advance your timing. If anyone has pictures of a stock timing plate mounted, stock plate drilled like im talking about, or even an advance timing plate, i would love to see those pics. Thanks A Lot Dinner

I think he said it was on 06?, not sure though. I have seen a quick picture of it, had nerf bars, hand gaurds and that was about it for "mods" you could say, well and 18" tires. So we'll see how things go
-
Yes he is stock, no pipe, no jetting, nothing, except smaller rear tires. I expect him to pull on me off the line, and im hoping to be able to go past him. Yea right now my jetting is for around -10,-15 degree weather. So I'll have to re-jet her for the +5, +10 weather because this weekend is suppose to be fairly warm. I just kind of find it funny that he is letting me have the pavement, while he wants to take the crappy gravel.
-
Well this Saturday I'll be drag racing a 450R. My mods are in my signature, his mods are nothing, stock gearing, 18 inch tires. He keeps talking crap about my quad, or any other quad in general saying his is the fastest no matter what. Usually I'm not one to get pissed off about it, but he has been nagging at me for a week now. So I told him I'll race him, if I lose I lose, if I win I win. We will be racing on pavement, or should I say I will be on pavement, and he said he will take the shoulder(gravel) because he said: "so that it gives me a better chance to catch up to him." I'll probably start off in 1st, see how that treats me, if not then I'll start in 2nd. We are going to try 300ft at first and see from there, maybe even start from a rolling go(2nd gear). My other friend wants to video tape it so once I have the video's I'll post them up. I'm thinking that I will be able to beat him, not sure how much but I think I can. I'm not too worried if I lose, cause well hey, I'll beat him in the pits, lol. And I know the only way to find out is to go out and do it, which we are. So what do you guys think? Dinner

Couldn't agree more, mine did the same thing :: Was out riding around one morning, all good to go. Come in for lunch, go back out and started hearing a hissing sound, started to get a little louder so I stopped riding, and tried finding the leak. Couldn't find it just looking around and listening, so once I got my intakes off I noticed where the clamps hold, had big cracks right through. So shee was sucking in air :: So I got some new ones and took my Boost Bottle Off and put a stock crossover back on.
