nice looking rig Simon!! Now you can start pimpin out your truck as well
-
What are your plans for the truck? Are you wanting to get single rear wheel or dually 1 tonne? Either way I would suggest looking into the Duramax or the Cummins. If you do go Ford, as stated above go with the 7.3. Sure the are dogs stock, but they will go forever compared to the 6.0 and 6.4. Another good old engine would be the 12 Valve Cummins, I know a couple in Canada that went 1.5 million trouble free km's. If you aren't too concerned with engine, Ford does have a pretty snazzy ass interior.

I cut mine cause I don't ride mud, or really any water for that matter. Also like the look a lot better
-
Friend of mine just bought the exact same truck! Same colour and everything, nice rig
-
Leveling kit up front...still not quite level
-
Looks pretty snazzy! Those wheels help set it of as well. What's it got under the hood

Not too far from me Been to Whitby a couple times back in the day. Might be there again the odd time this summer. I also see you have a Cummins

Don't you make this topic like every month?

Holy, wondered where she went. She always stirred up stuff no matter who it was and would always tear them a new one, she was a good lady for sure. RIP Brooke!!

Looks snazzy!! Welcome to the HQ

Well stock carbs really shouldn't be used on a Ported engine. If anything you should bump up to at least 28mm. If you hill climb, or do a lot of hard riding where you demand that constant high fuel/air rate. You will have to upgrade carbs from stock in order to keep the engine happy.
-
Those are pretty big carb's for a fairly stock engine IMO. I would see if you can get your hands on a stock set or 28's. If not, you'll have to try to re-jet doing plug chops and reading around to see where you should be at for altitude and temp. It just might be a real pain trying to get those big carbs dialed in...

Did you throw a tranny in an automatic or manual? If auto, did you do anything to it to increase longevity and power capabilities? Just curious really I have a built transmission in my truck minus billet output and intermediate (which I don't really need billet).
-
In my opinion if he likes the D-Max and wants to get into hot rodding, then I say go for it! Sure you will have to pay some money to get things built properly, but heck you can make the D-Max's pretty dang quick without too much money and work. There's a fella over on a forum that the last time I watched him, he was down into the 11's with not much work done to it
-
Yeah it does sound neat, I should try to get a video of it, specially with my stack Except I'm going to do some tests though, cause so far I don't think it warms the engine up any quicker than just high idle...
-
As you get older are you planning on doing anything with the truck, or just using it as a daily driver? If you are looking for something just to drive around in from school, work, etc I would choose the Ford. Nicer ride than the 3/4 tonne and is good for regular stop and go traffic. If you enjoy Diesels and want to hot rod a diesel, then I would look into the Duramax. It's up to you mostly, just depends on what you like, your driving style, etc. JMO

Well cold starts are hard on a lot of engines. Tonight will be a good test for the old Cummins, dropping down to -13 but feel like -22. Synthetic is a huge improvement for cold climate engines. Take for instance using 15W-40 in cold climates. Once you get the engine started it only takes a few seconds for the (piece of crap) OEM gauge to read "Pressure" (on the 24 Valves, not sure if it's the same on the CR's...as in what the gauge is actually reading). However it takes a good 45 seconds for that cold oil to reach the valvetrain and start flowing properly. I cringe when I see guys start their Diesels and instantly drive away But then again it's not my engine. Hopefully 3 Cylinder High Idle will start up tomorrow and I can see how quick the engine warms up.
-
If your CR's went into 3 cylinder high idle, you would notice Sounds like your engine is going to scatter all over the yard And it's Cummins, not Cummings

Sorry guys, haven't been on much lately!! I've never owned a CR or 12 valve so I can't say much about them. Though the VP44's (24 valves) do lack power once you start getting up high compared to the CR's and 12's. I still enjoy the 24's even though their IP is crummy. I've owned 2 24 valves and can't complain other than the normal wear and tear. Main reason I stick with the 24 valves is because they are electronic, so your fueling boxes, chips can be on the fly. And they aren't near as expensive as CR's once you start throwing the power to them. You can get lots of power out of the CR's though, but just at higher prices. If I was building a strict drag or pulling truck I would probably try out a 12 valve since I can tune the pump myself. Rubberneck has basically told you everything you need to know, so not much point in me writing a novel I'm running around with alright power in mine right now, but I'm not done yet....just waiting for winter to end And around here the conversion would bring my local fuel station to 3.56 a gallon, so stop bitching

Oh come on now, you aren't THAT bad

i need help understanding main jets and pilot jets
Dinner replied to 9banshee6's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
There are one of each in each carb. They are pretty easy to change really, the worse/longest part is taking off and reinstalling the carbs/cables and boots. But with that you can either leave the carbs in the intake boot and rotate the carb just enough to pull the bowl off. Or you can take the carbs right out and do it that way. But basically you pull the bowls off and the jets are accessed from there. -
Yea there were quite a few new people on this afternoon Kinda sucked though since my sister, brother in law were over so they were using my sisters account which = starting at rank 1

That's exactly what happens when you don't run winter tires
