Put about 7 or 8 lbs of pressure. soak em with a hose, and rub a little dishsoap on em all over. Not a lot, just enough...it will bubble much more noticably than just water alone... If you don't see it bubble up, then let a little air out, or...as much as you normall run. Don't forget to put a little soapy water in the top and around the valve stem.

Heat up 3 cycles, as you've done. Don't stay at the same throttle for too long, and I'd richen up the oil gas premix just a hair for the first tank. Try not to ride above 1/2 throttle too long for the first tank of gas. If you run 32:1, mix it at 30 or 28:1... Since you've heat cycled it, I'd recheck the base and head gasket touque. After your first tank through, check 'em again. Once you take it easy for a tank of gas...ride it like your ex-girlfriend after 2 AM...

Agreed....I trail rode all day long a few weekends ago, +4 timing, and I'm not going to change it. And that's on a stock, original 96 shee motor. OEM pistons, everything... Now...if you started going +8 or 10...then...you might have some issues...

My buddy with the 450R in the pic has been to Ogemaw...he loves it. He said it was the best riding ever, until two weekends ago when we rode in Peacock, MI. those were the best trails either of us ever rode. Ogemaw has a few tracks that range in skill, from easy to pro caliber...lots of trails, too. And...Don't quote me, but...I think they passed a law that allows you to ride on the road to get gas, go to the party store, etc. DON'T quote me on that...ask first please, I don't want to feel responsible for your DNR ticket if I'm wrong. If the weather is decent, we'll be at Dusty's this Sunday... I'm not gonna go there to mud bog, though... Yeah...PM me if you wanna arrange a trip. We're always looking for more people to ride with!!

Anyone ever heard of these pipes?

Be nice if ANY of the links actually worked on that site....like the dyno sheet, etc. Mixxer knows his shit when it comes to fourstrokes...no doubt about it. I'd like to read up a bit more on his two stroke knowledge... -
Need some help and advice please.

I'd check for leakdown, too... Could be impeller, head or base gasket. I know this sounds simple...cause it is. Check ALL of your crankcase/tranny vent hoses. Make sure none are plugged. If they are...the moisture that builds up has no where to go...and there you have it. Milky Way all the way. -
What he said... I haven't stopped smiling since...

Just get a bottle of Engine Ice... It works, it's blueish/purple....

Yeah...that swung out 18 inch tire spun all day long, felt bad for him. My buddies on the 450Rs are camping at D's this weekend, and hitting Gladwin trails one day. His Grandma lives in Gladwin, so...one of the nights they're gonna stay there. I'm going to try and get to Dusty's this Sunday, and ride all day. Hope for good weather, and Dusty's not being too....dusty.... Hope to see you there!

Yeah...I hear that. I ride with 3 guys on the 450Rs. The one I ride with the most pretty much has given up on drag racing me. I spanked him 4 out of 4 times Friday, we drag about 300 feet. He even holeshotted me once, and I ran his ass down and passed. He admits that when it comes to drags...you can't beat a banshee mod for mod. However, if he could ride better, and lost some weight, he could easily rip the decals off the fenders in tight trails.... I have no problem admitting that...

Wheelie bar? Who needs one of those... Nice...

Used one time. make offer, figure 7.00 shipped via Fed Ex. Don't feel like paying the ebay fees, and would rather see a fellow HQ member get this.. Bought new from Magic. Here's the one I bought, made by UM http://www.magicracing.com/product.asp?itemid=18&catid=[catid] Here's the actual pic. Click on it for an enlarged picture. Make an offer.

Sitting in my garage and collecting more dirt, taking up space. I have stock pipes and silencers off my 96 shee. Right silencer has a couple dings. You will need to get the seals. There are 4 total, and I have two of them. Make offer, and add 25 bucks shipped via Fed Ex. View 'em here. Click on the piki for a larger view. Yes...they're a bit dirty...

Yep...stockers are junk...as most stock tires are. I got my 96 in February...and my buddy hardly ever rode it. After one ride, XCRs went on all 4 corners!! It's amazing how "new" a bike can feel when it's got good sneakers on it!!

T5's and a lightened flywheel....that's the ticket for woods riding. The T5s still have a hit in 'em...and the lightened flywheel just makes it rev faster, smoothing out the hit and almost, yes...almost, give it a torquier 4 stroke feeling....since it's getting on the pipe faster. My buddy rode my T5'd bike a handful of times. He rides an 04 450R. Some mods on it. The first ride he took once I got the boonman special flywheel, the grin on his face was unforgettable. Instead of "F*** that hard hitting two stroke junk...to...man, I wanna ride that thing some more in the trails". Literally...

Take it to a quarter car wash if you don't have a pressure washer. Much easier and safer working on a squeaky clean motor...and less chance of dirt falling in and ruining a good idea! You shouldn't have to remove the rear fenders. just the fronts, gas tank, and plastic around the tank.
-
I'd lighten the flywheel and get porting. Several good folks here, look around. Eric Gorr, Passion, Patriot, Trinity...and, I'll even throw out FAST Racing. If you've got stock bore, while it's apart for porting, send your pistons too, and let them check the clearances of them and the rings. If you're gonna tear it down that far, freshening up the top end is't a bad idea...but, that'l probably set you over 500, or darn close to it.
-
Call Jeff @ FAST Racing. His kit is FZR 600 fibers, barnett HD Steels and HD springs. I'm not 100% sure what year, but...I'm sure Jeff will tell ya. FAST RACING 785-364-5325

If you took it to a repair shop, and you're paying them to at least inspect it, I'd have them give you a round about price for repairing it. They can't X-ray the inside of your bike's motor, but...they can give you a ballpark. Then...price out the parts only, so you know what you can save doing it yourself. Keeping in mind, that you're still gonna have to use a machine shop for boring and matching new pistons to your cylinders. The dissasembly and reassembly you can do yourself, no doubt saving a few hundred bucks...

Yeah...I know...the handle is odd, but...I use it for several forums. Combo of first, middle and last name, add the Jr.... Big Gund consider yourself lucky. I live outside of motown myself, and race cars, real race cars..(high compression, big bore V8's and such) are abundant...race gas is plentiful. However, we go up north to ride...and I hate having to take it with me. Therefore....stock pump gas for me!!

Need advice........Pro Circuit pipes, K&N
dajogejr replied to REV-I-DOO's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
Loco...let me assure you the Toomey kit/Dynojet needles are longer. I have 'em. Got the kit from Magic. http://www.magicracing.com/product.asp?itemid=1340&catid=75 Came with stickers...he he. Needles and 270 and 280 main jets. that's it. Oh, and a spacer for the needles.... Once you install the Toomey/Dynojet needles it's "akward" pulling the mains out, cause they're so long. My shee runs fine...IF I had problems, I'd change the needle back to stock. Again, the Toomey kit is in fact a longer needle. I'd go back to stock, as said...and go from there!! Next time I take my shit apart, I'll be sure to take a photo of each!! -

dajogejr replied to REV-I-DOO's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
I'd bet money you have the dynojet/toomey jet kit. Those needles are much longer, and I've heard they are Blaster needles. Can't be 100% sure on that last part. This is a dumb question, but...are your air filter(s) clean...unobstructed? I'd turn in the air screws .5 turns out...and go from there. Usually aftermarket pipes like 1 size fatter pilot...and I've read some FMF's like 2 fatter. Definately sounds like you're rich...though. At least you have it narrowed down. Put stock needles back in and try the middle clip... -
Ditto...shifting sure is nice now!!!
-
Love my XCR's. Nice to have 2 extra ply for trail riding...don't even notice the slight weight difference. Got 'em all around, front and rear. They're not great for hard, hard pack...but, then again neither is the shee powerband... For softer stuff, trails...they're very nice!!

While the gas tank is still low....empty it out and swish some gas to clean it out. I'd also remove the petcock and check the strainer thingy for debris. Clean it while you're at it. And...as said, completely disasemble the carbs and clean 'em out. I'd even get a small piece of wire and clean the pilot circuit out, etc. Check your float height, while you're at it, and don't mix the float bowls...
